Why Did Line 6 Stop Support Guitar Port/Gear Box
by foshizol92395 on 2012-07-11 20:35:25

I had to cancel my Line 6 Gearbox account because for three months there was no new content?

No new songs

No new lessons

No new Jam Tracks

The front page was always the same old Black Sabbath song. I couldn't figure out what I was paying for anymore.

What gives Line 6 If you're not going to support this product why do you continue to take money?

This is what you should do. Build a patch for Gearbox that lets you play all the files that customers have downloaded over the years.

This would work if your connected to the internet or not; or if you have an active Line 6 account or not. Then you guys can close up

shop and bough out nicely and then go on with the regular business of guitar effects, guitars, and amps. There's no need to keep up

appearances "failure is always an option".

Come on do the right thing, either support the product or just give up.

You could get sued if you don't?

You can't do anything with those tracks unfortunately... my understanding is that all downloads will become inaccsseible after the shut off.

you might give support a call and confirm, because i'm not 100% sure http://line6.com/company/contact/">http://line6.com/company/contact/">http://line6.com/company/contact/

So basically their dropping out of the "online" Guitar Port jamming along market. I wonder what the cost was to keep it up and what they were benefiting from it?

Sounds like everything is FREE over on Spider Online....how long will that site last?

Line 6 has too many names and changes, imo. gearbox, pod, podfarm, toneport, etc..etc...Spider Online Guitar Port online is offline..

I love my GearBox but it seems it was dropped in 2008 but they havent really done anything better to replace it.

It works great with Reaper Daw and has an amazing Home Recording package of Vocal Rack stuff and Guitar amps and Bass Guitar amps, but then its not so good with WIn 7.

They need to start sticking with something and keep it going, like Windows does or wait!

maybe this is the plan! to shut stuff down adn then we go buy the new stuff and start over and over forever?

if you have the gearbox plugin... you get a pod farm (version 1) license for free...

same sounds... different interface.... no windows 7 issues....

i have to say though... most of the things you are citing as name changes are simply product evolutions....

not 1:1 same item with a new name...

I also did not get the email notifications, and never saw anything posted when I was using GP.  Their customer service is a joke...I have been trying to login for 3 days, sent several inquiries to CS and got NOTHING back from them, called today and after listening to their shills for over 30 min I was told that they did not know what the problem was, they would reset my password, and THEY NEVER MENTIONED THAT GP WAS NO LONGER SUPPORTED BY LINE6!! The Spider interface is terrible...worse than GP (why no full screen option?).  I may cancel as well...

This is absolute bullshit.  Line6 hasn't been holding up their end of the bargain for years.  There haven't been new updates on any kind of regurlar basis since 2009.  And every month I fork over money just so I can enjoy the track I already had.  And I was happy to do it.  Now they pull this?  Fuck you, Line6.  The absolute least you could do is allow users to continue to use the tracks you already created.  That might make up for the money you swindled out of users like me who keep paying month after month when you had no intention on keeping your producted updated.  But to just pull the plug on users who have continued to pay until the bitter end?  You're a crap company.  I'll never spend another dime on a Line6 product.  Ever.

Line6 definitely dropped the ball for support of this product and has pissed off several loyal users of their products (myself included).  I also continued paying for this in spite of the fact that it was never properly supported or updated weekly as the web site indicated.  When I called to complain they gave me free access to the site but still failed to update it and certainly never mentioned that it was being shut down.  This is a horrible thing to do to their loyal fans and I will definitely consider this a lesson prior to purchasing another L6 product.  I had my eyes on the JTVariax at guitar center but am forced to reconsider since this is obviously the level of support I can expect to receive from here on out.  I am really disappointed in L6.  Thought they were better than this.  Really feel cheated & believe other users feel the same.  Very poor example of customer loyalty.  Shame!

I would have to agree, I paid the subscription since the very begining.  It was a fantastic product.  With the bass, amps, vocal stuff and it recorded well.  And on top of all of that you could learn to play to your favorite songs or learn awesome lessons in various styles.   I have download tons of stuff,  I personally hope some one hacks around the problem and allows all of us to access all that great material so we can keep jammin and using a great product.  I was going to purchase some line 6 stuff but I will never buy another line 6 product again and I am spreading the word to everyone not to purchase line 6 products.
