Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by phil_m on 2012-07-17 10:58:05

Just in case anyone missed the announcement at the top of the page.

Details:

POD HD300/400 Flash Memory v2.01 is a FREE firmware update that is highly recommended for all POD HD400 users.

What’s New? POD HD400 2.01 includes seven new HD guitar amp models, one HD bass amp model (with matching cab + eight mic model choices) and two new FX models; an advanced noise gate and vintage-voiced mic preamp model.

  • “Solo 100 Clean”, “Solo 100 Crunch”, and “Solo 100 Overdrive” HD Guitar Amp Models
Three new HD guitar amp models based on* the Clean/Crunch and Overdrive channels of the classic, hand-built Soldano® SLO100 Super Lead Overdrive 100-watt head.

  • “Line 6 Doom” and “Line 6 Epic” HD Guitar Amp Models
Two new, Line 6 original HD guitar amp models with lots of gain on tap. Line 6 Doom delivers maximum sludge by combining a Marshall® JCM800 preamp and Hiwatt® Custom 100 power amp with some additional tweaks. Line 6 Epic provides sustain for days at virtually any playing dynamic, giving up gobs of distortion with ease.  Play with the Master Volume parameter to experience the true versatility of these amps.

  • “Plexi Lead NRM” and “Plexi Lead BRT” HD Guitar Amp Models
Stunning new HD guitar amp models based on* the Normal and Bright inputs of the legendary Marshall® “Plexi” 1959 Super Lead 100-watt head.

  • “Flip Top” HD Bass Amp Model
Based on* the Ampeg® B-15NF Portaflex®, one of the most popular studio bass amps of all time.

  • Eight New Mic Choices for the “Flip Top” Cab Model
Get your ideal bass tone from the new “Flip Top” HD bass model with eight mic choices based on*:
    • Shure® SM57
    • Sennheiser® 421
    • AKG® D12
    • AKG® D112
    • EV® RE20
    • Shure® SM7B
    • Heil Sound® PR40
    • Neumann® U47
  • “Vintage” HD Mic Preamp Model
A vintage-voiced tube mic preamp based on* the Requisite Y7. Place this model at any point in the signal chain to give incredible warmth to vocal sounds and guitar and bass tones. This model lives in the FX1 slot. Its controls include:
    • Gain: Input Gain
    • HPF: Provides a High-Pass Filter with a range of 20Hz-500Hz
    • LPF: Provides a Low-Pass Filter with a range of 5kHz-20kHz
    • Phase: 0 or 180 degree out of phase (useful when used within parallel signal paths)
    • Output: Output Level
  • “Hard Gate” Model
An advanced gate capable of extremely quick response. With controls for hold time, decay rate, and separate open/close thresholds, Hard Gate is ideal for any genre including Metal. It can even be abused to create erratic “sputter” and “splat” effects.  This model lives in the FX1 slot.

  • Cabinet Bypass

Line 6 - where is the DEP cab editing?  Seriously....that was by far the most important update.  We wait over half a year and it isn't part of the update?

Not happy about this at all.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by TheRealZap on 2012-07-17 11:15:15

was never announced as part of the update...

but neither was the SLO which made the cut....

(the 500/bean/pro guys don't even have this!)

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by b78deluxe on 2012-07-17 11:16:59

Fully aware of that fact.  However, it wasn't announced for the 500/Pro/Bean users either....and it is been very clear by customer feedback that was the most appreciated part of the 2.0 update.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by TheRealZap on 2012-07-17 11:19:37

on the bright side... they did put all that variax goodness in there... but wait... no place to plug a variax in... so i guess you'll just have to take my word on it

ok was a joke...  sorry...

i'd agree that it would have made a world of difference on the 300/400's just because of the limited ability to EQ if nothing else.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by stratchamp on 2012-07-17 11:21:31

So are they going to make 500/pro/bean users wait for the SLO like the 300/400 users had to wait for the 2.0 update?  Not cool.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by TheRealZap on 2012-07-17 11:23:25

No idea on that....

but it's one of the best models... love it... all 3 channels are great...

i'm sure they'll get to the 500/bean/pro eventually....

i think they added them here first as a peace offering of sorts...

by PremiumJones on 2012-07-17 23:26:17

Surprise SLO is awesome. Plexi is awersome.

"No cab" is really awesome. (presumably this also applies to the "live cab model"?? I hope??)

No cab DEPs kinda sucks, was looking forward to that.

Can anyone say whether this fixes the default cab issue with Edit? That is the one thing I REALLLLY want.

The fact that L6 AGAIN dropped an awesome update the day before I go into 2 days of intense rehearsal for a BIG gig on friday, and cant afford to mess with it until at least Sunday, sucks. I swear they look at my gig schedule when deciding on release dates.

Oh yeah. Finally the wait is over. And finally the Wah problem on J800 model and problem with HD400 Edit with CAB model changing to default got fixed. Well thank me guys. I figured out this problem and L6 fixed this on my feedback they got.

L6 Rocks!!!!!!!!

I was about to tell you to reinstall Flash memory v1.31 and then update to 2.01. You figured it out. Nice. Enjoy v2.01

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by indigobjn on 2012-07-18 06:02:21

Hi all,

I am very happy and excited about Flash Memory v2.01 and at the same time a little dissappointed of the fact that all the EQs are still placed on FX1 along with other effects. Actually, the EQ should be a global feature for any particular patch we create like Gate. For example, with EQs on FX1, we can't use Heavy Distortion and 4 Band EQ at the same time.

indigobjn.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by b78deluxe on 2012-07-18 06:15:33

While I agree placement of an EQ outside of the FX blocks would be nice and much prefered.  I think the bigger isuse is the fact that the EQs in the 300 are (IMO) worthless for tweaking the sound the way it needs to be tweaked (especially in the low end spectum).  We knew about the placement of the EQs in FX1 when we bought it (assuming you did some basic research, that was available before the things even hit the stores 2 years ago).

What we really need is a usable EQ.  Period.

The MIC Pre has a hi-pass and low-pass filter.  The problem is you have to add "drit" to get to unity volume, and the MIC pres just muddy things up, which is what I'm trying to get rid of with EQ in the 1st place.

I say take away the MIC Pre and give us DEP cab editing, or substantial strightforward EQ control.  I don't care if it is in FX1 block, if i need more gain I can pick a higher gain amp, etc.

(Also there are thousands of dirt boxes that sound better than the on-board L6 one has, many that are pretty cheap...which is an easy way to "free up" the fx block.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by jabroc0 on 2012-07-18 09:27:37

I am not familiar with the "No cab" feature.  I typically am sending my xlr out to the PA board.  What makes the "No cab" feature awesome.  Is this something really only nice if I am sending the output to an AMP, or does it sound good going directly to the PA?

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by mabbaticchio on 2012-07-18 12:27:47

It's for sending to an amp that already has a real speaker coloring the cone.

by piggins411 on 2012-07-18 12:30:41

For some reason when I try to select any of the new amps in edit, it just switches to another one and I can't select them

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by bclarke675 on 2012-07-18 12:33:01

It appears that HD300 Edit has been repaired so it doesn't change the Amp DEP controls everytime you reload a preset.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by Klisk on 2012-07-18 14:03:43

I'm extremely satisfied with this update. I only wanted 3 things: A bass amp (most importantly), the marshall plexi, and the no-cab feature.

Now I have them! To me the HD300 is "complete". I wouldn't ever need anything more out of it. The DEP cab editing isn't a biggie for my uses. (Recording bass and guitar, and for live bass... I don't use my pod for live guitar. I stick to my traditional gear for guitar.)

I know there have been a lot of HD500 users saying that us 300/400 guys should just suck it up and buy the 500, but I didn't "cheap out" by buying the 300. I bought the 300 because I wanted the small footprint and convenience it provided. If they made an HD500 with the same footprint as the HD300 then I would have gladly paid the extra money... It was about size, not money.

Either way, I'm stoked. My HD300 is perfect (for me) now, and since it has a bass amp I can patiently wait for future updates since they won't be as crucial/important for me... No more using the fender amp as a stand-in bass amp!

Crazy long wait, but it really did pay off, so I can't complain. I know I'm alone here since my requirements were lower than most users, but this was everything I needed for my HD300.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by PremiumJones on 2012-07-18 14:08:05

The real benefit of it is that you can use third party IRs for recording.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by PremiumJones on 2012-07-18 14:46:05

Man you aint kidding. Maybe its just the "new car smell", but I have now rebuilt all my tones with the SLO, and they are all better for it.

It does clean better than the Twin. It does Crunch WAY better than anything else in the box, and it is one of the better high gainers on the OD channel.

There are a couple song-specific tones I will still use the Hiway, PhD, and Elektrik for... but my four "main" tones are all SLO now.

I havent even messed with the Plexi, and I was looking forward to that.

:O

Another thing that I love here, and just sort of realised earlier today - I dont have to worry about updating it. If it fails to mesh at rehearsal, I can just roll back to 1.31, reload my backed up bundle, and be fine for the gig friday.

I could get used to this. \m/

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by silverhead on 2012-07-18 15:04:06

Why would you need to roll back to 1.31? Just reload your backed up bundle. The new amps can still be there - you just won't be using them. I don't believe there are any updates (other than the new amps and some bug fixes) that should affect your v1.31 tones.

Re: Flash Memory v2.01 Update for POD HD 300/400!!!
by neerajan on 2012-07-22 03:45:16

yup we sooooooooo need cab dep....i need the hard gate where i can use it without sacrificing screamer (hard gate=useless) ..AND i need the eq too where i can use it even while using screamer..stuffing everything in the FX1 is gettin on my nerves..i guess i SHUDV waited so dat i cud afford HD500

IMO, if LINE6 cant provide eq and hard gate separately for every patch, they might as well stuff it into FX2 so that one can use them where they need a tone with no effects other than the ones in FX1..for xampl in case of a heavy distorion meant for modern metal riffing, i cud perhaps use the screamer from FX1 and use the HARD GATE or an eq from FX2 considering FX2 goes unused most of the time in such tone situations..and since afterall we are humble 400/300 users we can at least hope for the hard gate OR eq feature in FX2...using them at the same time is only if u can afford 500

Good!, with Plexi I've made a incredible Malmsteen sound xD

Your Soldano sound like good Hard rock not Metal, crank it with screamer, with master at 10 and gain at 6/7 for really low end stunning sound

in my video you can listen Engl simulation, but with this Soldano settings it's much heavier than engl. When i have new gigs video i post here

I finally managed to get some nice black metal sound which isn't annoying me with fuzz and noice! Made it with new Soldano, haha:) I even might record some carpathian forrest 'cover' to share this sound \m/

I'm new to POD300. I just installed Flash Memory 2.1 but I don't know how to I find the SLO and Solo 100 and Plexi.  Can someone please help to find? I tried to check thru the 1st Amps knob, but it's not in there.

Are you trying to find it in the Edit software. If so, my guess is you never updated your Edit software. Pretty sure that needs to be updated in order to see the new models.

The new amps are available via knob #1 when the Amp is selected in the signal chain, and/or in the AMP EDIT pages. They can not be selected via the Amp knob on the top surface of the device.
