Detailed Model Gallery?
by urbanecowboy on 2012-09-12 01:22:19

Recently purchased a Pod HD500 and was disappointed that the Model Gallery doesn't include much in the way of specific tech specs (eg. what frequencies the amp bass/mid/treble EQ's operate at, same for some of the Pre/EQ FX). Is this information available anywhere?

It's not available from Line6.  And they never have offered it before.  This is assuming you haven't downloaded the models pdf which offers some of the information you're looking for but not nearly as in depth as you want. Look in the manualsdownload area if you don't have this pdf.

in many cases it's not that simple - as you turn the knob, the center frequency may vary, or the Q may vary.  Or it may do more than EQ the tone.

Best I could tell you is to run white noise through the unit and use a real-time frequency response plugin in a daw to watch as you adjust certain things.  Otherwise, you're going to have to see if the original manufacturer of the modeled gear released such specs, or just use your ears.

Thanks, yes I downloaded that pdf and was a little surprised that they didn't include the tech specs on the EQ effects (of all things!). Surely the designers have that information handy somewhere?

Oh man, I guess I'm just used to my old Ampeg, which lists the center frequency and dB of its tone knobs. Even though it doesn't list/show the Q of the knobs, it was better than nothing.

What you're talking about would be cool for Line6 to provide.  I mean they modeled the darn things taking years to get it to this point.  I KNOW they have the answers you seek.

With my limited knowledge of tube amps, I think that information is about the tone stack of each amp. Since almost if not all tube amps tone stacks are Passive and not active, you really should be looking for information about the tonestacks of these amps. With a passive changing any tone controll doesn't only effect that tone control, but it effects other frequencies...Anyway I found this tonestack calcutor progarm.

Itworked on my windows XP, and it's very interesting when you run and start simulating what happen to the EQ cruve as you move the bass or treble etc. It has simulations for Marshall, Vox and Fender, but I found it very helpful in sheding some light..It took a second to download and another 2 seconds to install and run, very nice little tool...

thanks! i also found that badass user meambobbo made a guide that includes some (borrowed) info about the EQ effects:

hehe - sorry i should've linked you to that but i didn't think it really answered your question about the amp EQ controls.  but yeah - my eq page has lots of good info about how the EQ effects behave, and I owe a lot of the credit to mmurphy who made the youtube vid.

The information above may not be current, and you should direct questions to the current forum or review the manual.
