1) I assume the compression is hard knee. Can we have an option for soft knee?
2) Why does the gain go negative? Why would I ever want a negative gain on compression?

Yes, the compressor has a hard- knee characteristic and the option to adjust the knee from hard to soft can be useful. The gain goes in both directions although, of course, it would be mostly used to make up the compression. If you end up having, for whatever reason, strange levels because you turned up the trim instead of turning down the threshold to get some compression the negative gain can correct your level. I am not saying that this is the way to do this but it can save someone who got it wrong and needs a quick correction.
