M9 FX Routing
by 886343 on 2012-11-13 03:23:11

Reading the M9 manual it states you can have the fx routing either 1>2>3 or 3>2>1,

I run my M9 in the amp fx loop and my question is this, I currently have the M9 set as 1>2>3 with 1 = chorus, 2 = delay & 3 = reverb or tremolo.

When the M9 is in the amp fx loop does it matter which way round the routing is like it would say if it was in front of the amp (i.e. inline not in the fx loop)

Traditionally you would have delay at the end of the chain so should I set the routing to 3>2>1 and have 3 = delay, 2 = chorus & 3 = reverb or tremolo. I am presuming here that the chain would be amp fx send > 1 > 2 > 3 > amp fx return? Is this correct?

Getting a bit confused with it....

Thanks

Michael

This setting doesn't really have anything to do with the way you arrange the effects within your scene. Since you can put any effect in any slot in the M9, you can put your effects in any order you want. What the 1<2<3 or 3<2<1 setting does is determine how the signal flow goes through the pedal itself. The default is 1<2<3, but going left to right is the opposite way most people have the signal going on pedalboards. Almost all pedals have the input jack on the right side of the pedal and the output on the left. So the signal ends up going from right to left. Setting the M9 to 3>2>1 will make it so the effect in slot 1 is the last in the M9's signal chain. Flipping this setting won't actually change your tone at all, though. The M9 automatically moves the effects that were in slot 1 to slot 3 and vice versa.

so if i'm understaning you correctly if I want the delay at the end of my chain and I have the 1>2>3 setting I should place the delay patch in number 3? Is this correct, if it is surely this means that you DO have to put your effects in order i.e. as you would in the traditional sense on a pedalboard...

Yes, put your effects wherever you want them. If you want your delay last, and you have the M9 set to 1<2<3, it would go in slot 3. If you had it set to 3>2>1, you'd put it in slot 1.
