Recently purchased HD 300
by towerofbabel76 on 2012-12-04 21:05:15

Ok, so I've been searching the forums and reading the manuals for the HD 300.

I need to run my HD 300 direct to the mixer.

I've been doing this using a single xlr, and the dip switches on the back set to studio. But I not sure if I'm getting good sound that the hd 300 is capable of producing.

Do I have to run both/2 xlrs to the front of house mixer for the optimal sound?

I don't have the option of having an amp with me, to run one XLR to FoH and one instument cable to the amp. for all intents and purposes the HD 300 is the amp. And as far as I know I can't run more than one xlr, there isn't space at the mixer. Not sure if there are inputs I can use on the stage monitor.

Do I need to get a dummy 1/4 inch plug and fool the device into sending a mono out of the XLR port to get a better sound? Or can I just use one XLR and if so which port? Left or right? If I do get the dummy plug, I run the HD 300 in Dual mode?

Any help is appreciated. The manual doesn't really spell it out if you should use two XLRs for runing direct or if you can get by using a single XLR. Also I'm a noob.

Thanks.

If you are wanting to run only a single XLR out of your HD300, you can force the HD300 to sum mono by putting a dummy plug in the Left 1/4 output.

The other way you could do it would be to use a direct box and take the left 1/4 output...

Personally, if the house is stereo I prefer two channels just for the tonal control for each side of the PA...

Spaceatl, thank you for your reply.

The House is a mono system.

No Direct box unless I get my own.

So yes, I have a number of options.

1st would be run a single XLR to house while using the dummy 1/4inch in the left unbalanced mono out put. But does it mater if the XLR is in the  right or left port?  From the online manual- if I'm in dual mode, On the HD300 it's diferent for the 400- I should send the XLR through the right. I know at this point the XLR is going to be mono. But if I just run direct in studio mode and I run a single XLR out of the left or right, am I only getting half the signal from the HD300?

The HD manual talks about running in dual while sending 1/4 into an amp and the xlr to house. I could also run 1/4 instrument cable to my onstage monitor but I'm already getting a signal from the HD through the monitor from the House via the XLR. That might be redundant. I just want to make sure I'm getting the full signal from the HD 300. I would run in stereo if I could.

I'm using the HD as an Amp so I don't have to lug around 65 pounds of Twin Reverb.

Thank you for your reply I really apreciate it. You mentioned a work around in another thread so I thought you might have more specific insight.

I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
