Adjusting UX2 phone knob only boosts volume on right side
by edwintanyd on 2012-12-27 08:11:16

I am using headphones for the output of my UX2. My headphones and 3.5mm stereo jack adaptor are working fine as i have tested them with the phones output of my amp. I am able to get the mp3 output from itunes as well as my bass playing from the headphones. The problem comes when i try to increase the volume of the phones via the knob, only the right side experiences and and the left side remains at the original.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            I am using windows vista. I have tried going to Control Panel> Hardware & Sound > Manage Audio Devices > select UX2 > Properties. Under "Levels" the balance is equal. But when i click on "Test", the sound check comes with the uneven sound balance. Both the left and right are at an approximately equal volume with the phones knob set to 0 boost. But as i turn the knob, the right side gets increasing louder whereas the left side remains at the original volume. I really wish that this isnt a hardware issue as it very difficult for me to send it for servicing as the nearest centre is in the next town. I hope somebody will be able to help me out. Thanks in advance.

Is there a pair of headphones you with a 1/4" inch jack you can try?

I know you mentioned you tested this on your amp, but most amps are mono out.

Is it possible the adaptor is TS and not TRS?

Thanks for the quick reply. My adaptor is has the ring below the tip so its a TRS. But i'll go get another adaptor asap to try it out. And there is an error with what i said in my 1st post about "Both the left and right are at an approximately equal volume with the phones knob set to 0 boost". When i'm using my AKG K450 with the phones knob set to 0, the left side produces a sound ar a barely audible level and the right side has NO volume at all. But as i turn the knob, the left side remains at the original barely audible level and the right side is boosted with regards to the level of boosting. Next, as i plugged in my ipod earphones when the phones knob is set to 0, both sides have NO volume at all. As i turn the knob, the volume on both sides increase in tandem proportionate to the amount of boost. Sounds like problem solved right? I thought so too. But when i play one of those songs with those guitars panning left and right, the problem returns again where only sound on 1 side can be heard.

I guess its not the adaptor. I just got a new one and its giving the same response as the old 1.

Just curious, if you do not launch POD Farm and play a CD or mp3 on your computer (still using the UX as your device), do the headphones work properly or do you have the same problem?

Hi,

Apologies in advance, - just wanted to make sure of something - you said it has the ring below the tip - are you referring to the little plastic dividing ring or a metal  ring? The trs would have a tip of metal, a ring of plastic, then a ring of metal, then a ring of plastic, and then a larger metal bit. A mono version would just have the tip of metal then a plastic ring and then a longer metal bit.

This may not be the problem but just wondered when you said it has a ring below the tip.

Sounds a strange thing that one side stays low volume while the other goes up.

I'll have to have another read of your post and think about that one .

By the way, when you said guitar on one side, are you hearing only out of the one side of the phones or do you just mean that one guitar is coming through both but should be two?

God Bless,

David
