Podfarm License and Authorization - software license vs. iLok
by GenevaView on 2013-01-07 16:30:13

A few points that I am unclear about:

The license choices for Podfarm; Am I reading this correctly? The use of the VST and Elements plug-ins (in ProTools in my case) can only be accesed with the iLok license?

What exactly are the benefits of one over the other? software license vs. iLok license?

And with the authorization, what are the differences between authorizing Podfarm with my computer and with my Pod XT Live? Also, I have previously purchased the Bass Expansion Pack to use with my Podxt, will I be able to use that with the Standard license of Podfarm? Or any of the other amps or FX's that I have in my POD that might not be included in the Standard license version of Podfarm?

I'm sure I may have other questions that may apply to these isues that I haven't thought of yet; if there is anything I have overlooked in regards to these issues, please clarify.

Thank you in advance!!!

The iLok license is Standard, or Platinum.  All or nothing.  You cannot use model packs with it, and it will not work with the stand-alone version.  It is plug-in only.  All the plug-ins, like the elements are available.  You can use it on as many computers as you likre, as long as the iLok is attached.

The stand-alone version will allow you to use your model packs.  You can even install it on a computer without a Line 6 device attached, and any model packs you've purchased will also be available.  You can even use non-Line 6 input devices with the stand-alone version.  There are three catches:  1.  Any model packs that are permanently attached to hardware, like the PowerPak, and the FX Junkie on the XTLive, will only be available when the XTLive is attached.  This is not an issue if you purchased them separately; 2.  You can only have four Line 6 devices and computers authorized at any one time; 3.  You only have 10 lifetime authorizations total (so chose carefully)

Thank you for your help. I am still unclear about the plug-in use though. With the standard computer license, will I be able to use Podfarm as a plug-in with ProTools? And what is the difference in authorizing Podfarm to my Podxt as opposed to my computer? Why would I choose one over the other? I don't understand why there is a choice to authorize it to my hardware; if Podfarm is a software application, why would I authorize it to anything other than my computer?

Again, thank you for your time and help. Most appreciated.

you can authorize it to both....

the difference being that using it with the hardware will enable the hardware factory packs (fx junkies, powerpack)  in pro tools as well as the pod farm standard options. you won't have access to those packs without buying additional licenses without the hardware...

and yes the computer license will enable the plugin with any interface (but not the factory model packs)

Thank you, most appreciated. And sorry. I marked you reply as 'helpful'.... wouldn't seem fair to mark yours as correct and BigChas' not. Being that both your answers added up to the correct one. Thank you both, again.

Maybe one last question though...is re-amping possible with the Podfarm, authorized to my hardware? I think authorizing it to my PODxt would be best for me. Thanks.

yes re-amping is possible i usually record the dry track and use the plugin...

then i'd simply render the track when i was happy and mute the dry track in case i want to go back and change things (render again) as i get into the mix.
