You should get better results running into the "aux" in on the HD 500. Also make sure you are not clipping the input and you probably want to use an "empty" patch on the HD500.

I've tried connect Jam Up Plug OUTPUT to POD HD 500 AUX IN and i've got the same result( Master on POD HD 500 on maximum, but i've got very quiet gutar's sound and loud noise.

the only HD500 input suitable for line level signal like the one coming from your iPad is: CD/MP3 IN, and it must connected with a mini stereo jack..

the other inputs are good for guitars and mics, and not so good for line level devices..

I'm not 100% sure, but probably you'll not able to (digitally) record your Jam Up Plug, since I believe the CD/MP3 IN signal is not digitized, and if so, doesn't go through the digital outputs: USB and S/PDIF.. unless you connect your POD to the analog inputs of an audio card.. the POD analog outputs can deliver also the CD/MP3 IN signal..

that said, I think the best solution is to record your iPad signals (or other line level type signals like keyboards) with a dedicated audio card..
