Rattle from Spider Jam
by adessmith on 2013-01-23 07:59:51

I just got a used Spider Jam amp.
I have noticed a pretty bad rattle from the amp at practice volumes or louder.
I picked it up pretty cheap because the seller thought the speaker was busted.

I found that wedging an object between the cabinet and the plastic control panel, just above the lcd screen reduces the rattling.
Also, tipping the amp back about 45 degrees also helps some.
I tried removing the head from the cabinet, but I cant get it all the way out. (removing all the screws from the top and the ones on the side) It seems to hang up on the front somehow and wont slide out.

I was thinking, if I could cut something to pad that area so the cab wouldnt make direct contact with the head, but with those screws removed, I could see a rubber seal that seemed to be ok between the head and the control panel.
Is there something that could be loose inside of the head that would cause this?

my guess is you live in raleigh, as i saw a CL ad listing those 2 items

i don't know anything about your question though.

It was actually an ad in the Wilmington NC CL....

But yeah, it was probably the same listing.

That's funny

Either way, $1,000 for a JTV-59 and Spider Jam was a great deal... Even if the amp didn't work!

Guitar was just like new.

I always see good deals on CL, if you got the cash to snatch them up quick enough...

and a seller without the patience to ask for a few more bucks...

he probably could have gotten 1100+ out of the guitar and 250+ for the amp with some patience.

good deal for you... i think you'd have no problem breaking even a couple of years from now when the jtvx is out! haha

assuming the clearance price drop doesn't kill resale.

Here we are:

This is a well known problem on many spider jam, but of course never known by Line 6 .

I got two Spieder Jam, both of them have had the same problem.

You can fix it easily.

Regarding the pictures...unfortunately joesjamblog.com is down.

good luck

He mentions several possible sources of buzzing.
Do you recall which problem(s) your amps had?
Was it the foam where the chassis meets the cabinet?

I was able to see this foam when I took the screws out, but it looked ok. Is it just not thick enough?
