Distortion in HD 500 loop make sense?
by sturge on 2013-01-25 07:17:11

Hi folks.

I have a Box of Rock that I want to use with my Pod HD 500 into a Dr. Z Rte 66 clone.  So, if I am using the Pod for effects and wah, should the chain be:

Guitar > Pod with Wah in front of loop > effect send to Box of Rock > effects return back to Pod (with mod, delay, veb after loop) > output to amp?

I currently have guitaar into pod > output to Box of Rock > amp.

The amp has no effects loop.

Any other suggestions?

I think the way you describe it should be good.

     Guitar -->  Pod Input

     Pod FX Send --> Box of Rock Input

     Box of Rock Output -->  POD FX Return

     Pod 1/4" Left Out --> Amp.

Then place the FX Loop in the FX chain either at the front or just after the wah.   That would be a classic configuration.

With the BOR sitting between the Pod and amp, you will be distorting your delay repeats, reverbd and modulations.  That can work but can easily turn into mush.  Neither way is 'wrong' but BOR up front is probably more controllable and versitile.

Finally, nothing wrong with

     Guitar -->  BOR In

     BOR Out -->  Pod Input

Other than the wah will be after the distortion.  Some people quite like that order, though the Wah effect will be more up-front in the soundscape.

Thanks.  I'll give it a shot.

Like Jim says, it's not an exact science, so you could set up a couple of presets with the effect order slightly different and A/B between them to see which you prefer.

The information above may not be current, and you should direct questions to the current forum or review the manual.
