Dongle needed or not ? I'm lost : Podfarm 2 "hardware independent" and model packs who's right
by pezib on 2013-01-26 01:13:51

I'm lost because two expert users (thanks both) give opposite answers :

A positive answer from TheRealZAp (many thanks again):

http://line6.com/support/thread/90961

"as long as you paid for your pod farm 2 license (meaning it wasn't included with a line6 hardware purchase)

pod farm 2.5x + and the model packs will all be hardware independent.... (*assumes that you also paid for the model packs)"

A different answer from Triryche (many thanks too):

http://line6.com/support/message/365934#365934

"Model Packs are only compatible with certain Line6 hardware, never for i-Lok. They are currently not compatible with POD Farm for computer (non i-Lok).

(Unless you previously owned a purchased model pack from a compatible Line6 Hardware device, then purchased POD Farm 2.5 Hardware independent.)"

In other words : for pod farm 2 and model packs, do we need any Line6 hardware device as dongle or not ?

(maybe you're both right but if that's the case, it means that my level of comprehension is too low - english as a foreign language is not so easy )

My doubt is about Triryche last sentence : "They (model packs) are not compatible with pod farm for computer".

Zap is correct.

My answer at the time was to the best of my knowledge and as it turns out is (was) not 100% correct.

So if you own a Pod Farm 2 Hardware Independent License (not i-Lok) that you purchased (not bundled with hardware), you can purchase model packs, just select a GX or UX1 for a different pricing and it should work fine. Plus you have 30 days to get a refund so there is really no risk.

This has been verified by another user, I'll see if I can find the thread.
