PLEASE HELP no matter what I do, the HD500 changes my tone!
by weareall1 on 2013-02-15 06:19:00

Ok here is  my set up, Marchall DSL2000, 100 watt tube head, it has an effects loop (but not ot many options for it), going into a Green 412 cab (basicily and old school Orange cab)

I use a Gibson SG with a Bill Lawrence pick up

first I LOVE my tone, for th efirst time in 31 years I LOVE IT, so thats the issue, I wanted to add effects and lots of them but easily for touring and playing live etc, pedal boards are just to many headaches....

so I was so excited to purchase this and after trying evreythign i want to sell and i just cant believe it wont do what I want it too....so this is my last ditch effort

I first went in direct 1/4 right into the amp, tried the switches, tried no amp sound, everythgin I could think looke dit up on here followed instructions.

Thn I tried into the effects send same thing tried everything all the swtihes no amp setting etc, looked it up tired what i foumnd.

went back to direct tried again over and over...everything I do no matter what changes my tone!

So it is possible to have this not change my tone AT ALL???? I dont think it is, but please tell me one way or the other and if so the best  AND EXACT way to do it

I am a HUGE line 6 fan and have been from day one, I love my flextone 3 and my MK2 combo, as well as all my stop boxes etc...

this has to work or I will be greatly sadened and loose a lot of faith here....

thank you in advance

If you only want to use FX with your existing amp, and do not want the amp modeling capability, you may be better off with the Line 6 M13 Stompbox modeler. The M13 provides true bypass and is designed to be integrated into an existing amp setup. The HD500 does not provide true bypass; hence it unavoidably does colour your sound as you've discovered.  The HD500 is designed primarily to be used as an amp/cab modeler. While the HD500 can be integrated into an existing amp setup it performs best (imho) when used direct to an FRFR system in Studio mode.

Both the M13 and the HD500 use the same FX modeling. Unless you speicifcally want the HD500 amp modeling (sounds like you don't) I recommend the M13. Connecting the M13 to your amp using the 4-cable method will give you all the flexibility you need for placing the M13 FX in pre- or post-amp positions.

I bought it and wasted my money,

But I still need a harmonizer, a wah, a volume....so what is the point? it defeats the whole point LAME

Couple things, before the hystrionics get out of hand:

1. the M13 has all the same FX as the POD HD 500. It actually has a few more.

2. The POD HD isnt made to do what you want. It CAN do it, but not well. You have discoevered this after the fact. Had you asked beore you bought it, you might have saved some time.

3. There are TONS of devices made to do exactly what you want, including the M13/M9. TC Electronics G-Major is another good choice.

It does not have all the effects, unless i need a firmware update? it has alll the stompbox modelers. None of them offer wahs, or harmony/pich effects.
Correct? It has filters (purple), gain/overdrive/distotions (gold), Delays (green), Mods (blue), and Reverb (red)

If I am wrong please let me know thank you

i believe it has all that... obviously you'd need expression pedals to use some of it... and the latest firmware is 2.04 i believe... so you may/may not need an update.

The wah and harmony/pitch FX are under "Filters". Makes sense for wah, but nor for harmony, I know, But thats where it is

edit:

Look on this page, under the "models" tab:

The procedure is here:

http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-1395

As">http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-1395">http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-1395

Asfar as I know, the current firmware contains all updates from previous firmwares so you only need to flash the newest one.

Might want to confirm that with the M13 specific help board here on the forums though. :O
