Anybody heard what/when there's going to be a new update with some new amps?
by RipperShred on 2013-02-15 15:27:48

Just thought I'd throw it out there. Don't know when/if it's comming down the pipeline, but maybe somebody on this forum does. As for what would be included, I'm still hoping for the 5150II, Mesa Mk IIC+ and MkIV, JCM900 and JCM2000, and of course the JC120. Some Deizels would be nice, but man, those 5 would be killer.

And if line 6 R&D is listening, a 5 band parametric EQ with selectable band frequency, selectable band width (0.1 to 2.0 octaves), and the 5th band has an optional shelve function to create a low pass/hi cut function to dial out. Or perhaps a 6th band with the purpose of being a hi-cut filter. It would be SOOO nice to have that kind of EQ shaping in a single FX block instead of having to use 2, or even 3 fx blocks to achieve the necessary EQing.

It couldn't hurt to fix the control scheme / nomenclature of the mid focus to include Hz frequencies, etc. either.

+1 .I'm hopping a new update too, with all the amplifiers and features you have mentioned. Another thing i was wondering if is there any possibility to include the Rectifier's vintage and modern channels like they did with the Soldano update (I mean, separate channels) and the possibility to insert the EQ models between the pre and power section of the amps, that would be rad too.

Greetings!!!

I'd appreciate a separate volume control for headphones, or a way to route sound into the aux in but not send it out (for iem)

I agree; mixing and matching the poweramp models with the different preamp models would be Über-cool. Can't imagine what kind of programming endeavour that would be, but none the less would be awesome. Still though, hoping for my 5 band parametric EQ and 5 amps that this thing needs, and they probably won't need the resources of splitting poweramps into a seperate blocks.

i think thet also need to add the option to just add a cab and not the amp ya know. tube amps have a line out and all it needs is a cab over it but you cant. anyone feel me?

Yeah, I could see the merrit in that. Fingers are crossed for some good stuff in the pipeline.

5 Band fully parametric EQ that reads out in Frequency instead of percentage is the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM for the next upgrade. Indispensible to dialing in and copying tones. Heck...add a hi and a lo shelving filter to it while your at it. Graphical interface for it like there is on the X3.

Give me a Tube Screamer that sounds half decent...or at least closer  to what it's supposed to be modelling.

Sort out internal Gain / clipping issues somehow...

Give me that and I'll consider not selling my HD500. I'm stull trying to decide if the hassle of dialing in good tone is worth the quality of the tone when you finally arrive.

Friend of mine just go his AxeFX2. Looking forward to hearing it.

I totally hear you! That's why I'm lobbying so hard for the 5 Band Parametric fully featured; it's been driving me crazy lately not being able to get BOTH the EQ AND RESPONSE/FEEL right. It's like I keep see-sawing back and forth. "Okay got the EQ just about right... Oh wait, now it's too squishy/muddy/loose/flubby... Got the the response tightened up... Oh wait, the EQ is screwed again..." Over and over. Need that parametric EQ I outlined above so desperately, and need the Extra Mesas, Marshalls, and Deizels to round out the high gain amps as well.

I totally agree on the EQ as a basic fix if nothing else as a vital and a digital clip lite on the each FX.

The JC120 would be desirable and perhaps others than an ampeg bass model amp for us bassists.

I really do think Line 6 will upgrade the flashware and stick it out for a long run on the HD's as they are bloody great and too hard to top. By improving what they have they'll sell more, making it a classic!

As who would buy a new hardware unit from them?

It would be a flop imo unless it was a profiler but that technology has proprietry and patents with Kemper.

Line 6 you owe it to yourselves to deliver on the HD.  It is a win win for you for we your clients and most importantly your future clients!

Can you see that?

Besides that oversight, I'm sure you're feelin' all of us here when it comes to a single, solid EQ, and getting some of those high-gain staples finally into the mix (along with the JC120, of course). I mean, I've actually been contemplating picking up and X3 Pro just for the extra high-gain milliage.

Got to admit though, the mid-focus is awesome now that I know what it's for, but you still need at least one or two more EQs after that, and that's 3 out of 8 effects blocks for just EQ, and that seems a bit much.

Line 6 had always seemed ahead of the curve with the XT and POD Farm routing to DAWs etc as far as extremely intelligent design of recording dry while keeping reverb active etc etc.  When the POD HD was released and the EQ situation came up, the image of intellegient design in my mind was replaced by someone dropping the ball. When it's taking more than two year to fix a glaring shortcome, line 6 image has detorirated further in my eyes. Still I'm hoping they will come up with an update that  will make them look as intelligent  and crafty and they always were...Not sure how long it will take but one can only hope, or maybe a new comer will just blow everyone out the water with even better modeling; Digitech maybe... who knows!

EQ is for the weak!

OK, just kidding, but I really wouldn't hold my breath on the EQ situation, but that's just my opinion, and it's not really worth that much. One thing regarding the EQs is I think that there may be a hardcoded limit to the number of parameters and effect block can have within the current architecture, so that could be one thing preventing something like a 5-band parametric where each frequency can be selected.

Personally, I don't like using EQ as an effect, but I do respect that many people do. I just think that depending too much on it tends to make a tone sound somewhat fake, for lack of a better term, after a while. I used EQs a lot for a while, and then I decided to do away with them. It was like my amps could breathe once again...

it's funny you would mention digitech, because they're deffinitely due. The gsp1101's been around for a good 4 or 5 yrs or more, and I sold one to pick up the pod because the pod had dual amp modeling and more effects routing capability. However, the gsp1101's amp model choices are like double or triple the PODs, and the EQs and MIDI implementation put the HD Pro's to shame. I miss picking a function, any function, and assigning it to a midi controller. I may hunt another one down just for the 5150II and MKIV models.   I could totally see them comming out with something new to update it.

You're probably onto something there Phil; Because after so much lambasting over how crappy the EQ is, after two years you'd think they would do something about it. Still, until they come right out and say "we've jimmied the code so that what you're asking is impossible" we're all still going to keep asking for it.

LOL... EQ is for the weak!

I don't use any "EQ" modules, nor did I on the PODXTLive.

The tone parameters (or the affect on the tone) of the AMP, Cab, Mic... not to mention practically every Dynamic, Distortion, Mod and Delay are plenty to wrangle for me.

Albeit, I still think they need to be fixed such that they assign frequencies to the setting/knobs... come on "percent"... that is so nutty.

In general, Guitar players want something that sounds good and brand loyalty is not a major factor in purchasing decisions. In the early days J-station sounded on par if not better than POD 2.0 so I had both. I had some Digitech RP 500 but thought that the POD HD modeling was better so I use the HD500 exclusively.  I Know digitech will answer with HD level modeling, it's just a matter of time and maybe sooner than we think.

Regarding EQ, a modeler intended to be used for recording in recording and home studios should have functional EQ with frequencies and Q etc. Line 6 or any other company are not about to reinvent EQ for Studio recording with EQ that's designed with those who has never used EQ in their lives (EQ for dummies).  If I wanted to play the best possible guitar sound live, I will use real amps and I wouldn't worry about EQ whatsoever. with a modeler EQ will make a night and day difference with little EQ skills...EQ for Dummies won't cut it!

The cab deps and the Vintage Pre are not enough? I don't have the need for a massive EQ use but I think we already have enough, just in case. I would prefer a dep parameter that would control the Input volume, so I won't need to boost it with some fx, losing some block(s) or use an external mixer. When ? I think, if they haven't abandoned the platform (to have a live sound market), March or April, because the penultimate firmware was out in April if I remember correctly... but who knows. Fingers crossed.

They might be enough for live use, but for recording they're cumbersome to say the least.  Anyone who uses pods fro recording is interested in real EQ not a dumbed down version. There are many plugins and hardware EQ outhere that are quite good, but if EQ is included then why couldn't have been like the standard tools that everyone who uses EQ is used to? It's just simply annoying to look at the shift EQ and move the knobs but have no idea what frequencies are being efffected.

Yeah, like I said; nonsensical EQs. Here's to hoping for sensical ones in the future, and I like Akeron's prediction of an update in April. Would be pretty cool if something drops around then.

Last update was in october 2012, in April that would be six months which sounds about right.  Meanwhile if something new comes out from digitech, I will buy that too and if it sounds better the the HD and the HD gets no more play, then I'm getting rid of the HD, the HD is the first product from LINE 6 that scares me as far as reliablity, I've had several situations with startup loop where I had to reset the hardware to get it to operate,  usually due to a corrupt patch (never even heard of this before HD). For now, the POD HD is the best within double of it's price range. Nothing under 1k can touch the POD.
