UX2 can't playback and monitor at the same time (useless for recording)
by Doomofman on 2013-02-18 13:49:24

Here's my dilema. I have the UX2 and have tried with both Abelton and Cubase 5 and with both programs I can't actually listen to a track and play the guitar over it at the same time. It makes the UX2 next to useless for recording. I can monitor the UX2/Pod Farm and hear the signal and record it. But I can't hear that bit of music when I go to record a new track. I can either hear playback or hear the guitar but not both. It's extremely frustrating. Figured it would be a breeze using the UX2 and Podfarm with the software provided(Abelton) but it's just not working.

Can anyone help?

Do you have your speakers connected directly to the UX?

also might be useful to know if you are using a mac or windows? laptop?

you need to select the ASIO driver type in your software and the same hardware for both in and out....

which as stated... the speakers need to be plugged into the ux2

It's OK I figured it out.. Kinda... I was trying to use the VST to get the signal in, finally when I figured out if I just use the UX2 as the sound device for Cubase and launch Pod Farm externally then it records the sound I want. Recorded my first piece last night finally. So it seems like the VST plug in is just awful and I can't see the use for it. But maybe I just don't know how to set it up properlly. But using the UX2 as the audio device and using Pod Farm outside of cubase I get the sound I want with zero latency as far as I can tell.

I guess the problem lies in that Line 6's guide for setting up a device is all about the VST plugin...

the VST's are a post recording tool for the most part....

record the dry track (and the wet if you want it)

then use the VST on the dry track later to change amps and effects without re-performing...

the VST is really quite awesome.
