How many of us use our V1 Variax as our main guitar now?
by clay-man on 2013-02-20 13:56:32

I just wanted to know how many of you use your Variax as your main guitar.

I know people argue that the Variax isn't spot on to what the models are modeled after, but I think that they're very close, very usable, and is very easy to get closer to a specific sound with workbench.

I still love my variax 600... but with 25 guitars in the stable, i couldn't call any of them my main one... as i play them all.

Although I have 2 Teles and a Strat plus a couple of acoustics, my Variax 700 electric is without doubt my main guitar both for gigging and 'noodling' at home. I love the neck, the feel, the tuning stability, the sounds (through a HD500, mostly). Just hate way the trem arm has too much play in it, rendering it unusable, IMO. So the arm stays in the case...

Yeah, I've retired my 600's trem arm myself, more or less because one of the piezos has gone bad and that's the main trigger to it cutting out.

I don't use tremelo arms that much anyway, last guitar purchase was a hardtail SG.

My sunburst 600 is the one. I played a JTV69 at GC last week. Nice guitar but as a volunteer weekend warrior i cant justify 1400 upgrade.

I liked the flatter radius and the separate tuning knob as well as the rechargable battery and all, but i will stick to my 600 for the forseeable future.

Echo the trem arm play.....

But the pro's totally outweigh the cons.

My lefty S500 is my main axe still.  I bought it as soon as it was available.  I love how quiet it is.  The guitars models sound great to me.  I wish they would make one of the new variaxes as a lefty.  I would buy it in a heartbeat.

V500 is still my main axe on stage... but I've added a Roland JK3 and two mag pu's to it. Among modeled sounds, I use only acoustic tones and semi-hollow flavors...

Recently found a mint sunburst 600. its THE guitar for me. In fact the piezos have spoiled me.

We have tons of older lighting at church and EVERY guitar with magnetics of any type hums.

not my Variax.....

echo trem arm too; the only downside i hae; i dont use it befcause of that and i dont divebomb; just add movement to chords.

Anyone got a fix?

Very nice. I'd love a sunburst 600 but I settled for a black with all the equipment.

If there's no electronics behind the trem block's bottom side, you could do this:

I don't use my trem either because a piezo cuts out really badly if I do (I need to get that fixed later)

I have a sunburst 600, i really don't play much anymore... but it is indeed awesome. made a few upgrades from stock and it was my go to studio guitar for years... how it managed to stay nearly new looking... no idea... guess i just got lucky.

In some ways I like the look of the 600 better than the jtv69. I don't get what's so bad about the guitar build quality of the Variax v1s. I mean yeah it's definitely not the best, but it's pretty great still.

I would be willing to sell it, if the price were right..

i did some upgrades to it, planet wave autotrim tuners, and a bone nut.

and it's in perfect as new condition and has all the accessories (XPS, bag, etc)

one owner me.

anyway... not actively trying to sell it, and wouldn't sell it for cheap
