DAVE RAT SOUND ADAPTOR FOR ALLOWING SENNY DYNAMIC HEADS IE e935/945 WITH SHURE HANDHELD TYPES
by jakeandelwooduk on 2013-02-20 18:35:37

Has anyone seen this, http://www.ratsoundsales.com/p/soundtools-sen2shure.html.

Is this a way of getting those lovely sennheiser e935/945 dynamic heads onto our beautiful line 6 digital pristiness xd series?

I have ordered one anyway as i have a few shure systems i use so can make use of it anyway and i will post back my findings.

Seems like a cool option if it works to expand the mic heads for the xd series.

It does however say it will only work for dynamic heads only.

Bearing that in mind i also found another website that seem to offer heads which actually add additional power for condenser mic caps

This company http://ambient.de/handheld-adapter/products/ are doing some pretty cool things in regards to mic capsule compatability which may or may not work with the line 6 system, but how cool would it be to actually be able to have a neumann kk105 capsule on a reasonably priced reliable digital wireless system such as the xd-v70/75 without having to buy a ridiculously expensive senny/shure wireless system?

Dboomer, have u had any experiance with these adaptors and would you know if they are compatable, as they work with shure systems it sounds too good to be true.

Cheers x

Experimenters should be aware that Ambient's active DC to DC conversion circuitry-equipped HHA-S adapter costs roughly USD $300 (incl. shipping) in order to mount just under a (further) thousand dollars worth (USD) of Neumann KK104 or KK105 capsule.

Rat Sound's passive adapter is, however, a much cheaper "gamble".

On the face of it, my feeling is that both adapters should be compatible from a purely technical standpoint, ...but tolerances in respect of the clearances from the adapters' concentric "tracks" to the "pogo pins" of Line 6 handhelds may require physical attention (such as the filing down of an adapter's "lip" for deeper "screwing in") in order to achieve reliable connections.

I'd really love to hear reports from anyone who's been able to try either, as all the capsules you mention (particularly the Neumanns) have long been firm favourites.

In that light, I must add that Line 6's inbuilt "835" and "935" models "do the job" for most of my "Sennheiser" vocal applications, however I've yet to find anything that matches the effortless detail and smoothness granted by two Neumanns' on stage rendition of powerful vocals, particularly in the range from mezzo down to bass.

If only I didn't need to come up with the cash...

Last time I checked the Rat adapter did not work with the Line6 wireless as if flips the bias voltage and ground terminals.  They have been working on a new unit but I do not know if it has been released.

The Ambient products look interesting but I have not tested them.  I would caution that the Neumann capsules may draw too much current and therefore not work with Line6.

If you are seeking an amazing capsule that a look at the Earthworks unit.  It's not cheap, but it's pretty amazing in many aspects.
