NAMM 2013 pretty well paves the way. I check the home page when entering this forum.

My personal opinon is that a HDII to further support the dream rig is on the cards. It'd be an error and a flop in comparision to the HD sales.

If I were Line 6 I'd deliver on the existing HDs as much as possible to a) show of confidence in their hardware. A better preamp is about all you'd get in a newer hardware unit or patent use of KPA profiler

b) any code and digital software improvements could and should be available for the existing HDs. (We have a USB connection!)

c) It is better business practice to maintain the existing hardware which will bring newer customers and goodwill to exisitng users.. It'll get a Classic status.

Software companies including DAWs have this horrible practice of releasing software, doing one or two bug fix patches and then re releasing the next how it should be version as an upgrade. Reaper is an example of how it should be done.

It is not as prolific amongst hardware manufacturers and you have Line 6' release history and it was better processing chips that justified a break away from the previous POD.

It'l be a long while before HD II. But I am sure it is on the backburner.

Probably more amp models.  My hope is an HD with more processing power (HD700?).  How much more would you pay to be able to use ALL the FX and amp slots in whatever way you wanted?.  I thought $200.  In other words I would be willing to pay $700 for that ability in a new device.  It would be nice if they could upgrade the HD500 by adding something but I'm quite sure that's not the case.  The other thing would be more input/output flexibility.  I'm hoping it will eventually have what the X3 Live has in that regard with USB and the hardwired inputs and outputs.  I'm still waiting, at least to be able to lock the level of either the XLR or 1/4" ouptuts and have the Master Volume control the other.  A VERY handy thing.  AND more reamping possibilites as well.  I'm also hoping the current Variax line will start having extras like other pickups and/or bodies available.  As well as more acoustic selections.

If Line 06 were to release another pod HD series soon, they would effectively proclaim/admit  that the current HD is outdated and not the best thing since apple pie which they effectively marketed the HD as. I totally understand progress..I "get it" where the life cycle of a new technological device may be only a couple of years...The HD has been around what over 3.0 years now? I know this is "pie in the sky", but if they were to release a more powerful pod hd, as an HD500 owner I would like to see some sort of program where you can purchase the necessary components (chips etc.) to upgrade your current pod hd to a new one..This may only cost a few hundred vs what they would want for a new Pod HD.A new pod would have to "Wow" me ..More effects or amp models wouldn't do it for me...More improvement on what we already have would.

I don't think Line 6 are into kit sales, understandably, Some geek head might find a memory or processor upgrade as something is probably available. It might be an easy matter to replace. I havn't looked inot it!

Is it 3 years already, I've only had mine 6 months!

I am happy enough with it for now and am not about to jump on a new model.

It would be great if they made some more improvement in the OS especially some FX improves perhaps afew more bass amp models.

Apparently Line 6 do not chime in, in the forums as these are for users only.

Any suggestions have to be sent to their feedback page where they are archived and not replied to.

Not that they are bad company, just busy with the day to day array of product lines I suppose.

You need to reread my post.  You said

"A new pod would have to "Wow" me ..More effects or amp models wouldn't do it for me...More improvement on what we already have would."

And that's exactly what I'm talking about.  Not more effects or amps but the ability to utilize every slot available without running out of memory (in other words, more memory) and more vesatility witht the inputs and the outputs.  I'll pay $200 extra dollars for that.  It doesn't prove the current HD is outdated because it's not an improvement over the actual models.  It's just a bit more capable than the 500 is,  LIke the 400 us more capable than the 300 and the 500 is more capable than the 400.  Same thing just one better (Like being one louder).

Yes brue58ski..But to acquire more processing, and memory wouldn't it just be a chip upgrade? I know it's a pipedream, but if that's the only improvement Line 6

would do in a next unit let's say, it would be easy to offer current hd users some way to upgrade their current units..Not that they would ever offer some sort of program for this, but it would be a good sales opportunity for them, and they wouldn't have to come up with the next "thing" right away. They could focus on their existing units.Problem is, the onus would be on music store techs to upgrade them..It wouldn't be as simple as snapping out the old, and putting in the new.

Just a pipedream I guess.

You pretty much nailed why companies typically don't go the "chip ugrade" route of upgrading hardware. One of the most expensive costs in business is labor, so if an upgrade requires a technician to do the work, it soon becomes just less expensive to upgrade the whole unit. It's the same reason it doesn't typically make a lot of sense to invest a lot into upgrading a laptop you already own. The law of diminishing returns pops up pretty early when it comes to working on electronics.

Ya I never thought of it, until you compared it to a lap-top which has intergrated parts..The pod would be the same ..too bad

"But to acquire more processing, and memory wouldn't it just be a chip upgrade"

Not necassarily.  Almost everything I talked about would be a firmware upgrade like they've done in the past. I'm not talking about physically adding more inputs or outputs. Just making more opitions available with the ones they have. They've done this very thing with past products like the X3 Live. Only the memory would have to be a hardware issue or "chip" upgrade. In fact it wouldn't even be an "upgrade" it would just be adding more of the same memory.  Not really "upgrading" anything.

"so if an upgrade requires a technician to do the work, it soon becomes just less expensive to upgrade the whole unit. It's the same reason it doesn't typically make a lot of sense to invest a lot into upgrading a laptop you already own"

I have owned two things that had a "chip" upgrade both of which you could do yourself.  One was for the Digitech GSP 2101 (for memory) and the other for the SANSAMP PSA-1 (processor upgrade).  In each case they were VERY simple to do by myself.  Point being is it's not that uncommon or impossible.  However, since I don't think Line6 is going to do this kind of thing, the next best thing is to make available a product with more memory so all the amp and FX slots available in the HD500 can be used and not come across the "out of memory" screen.  That is all I'm talking about.  I don't agree that it would be that difficult at all to do.  I think one of the main reasons the HD500 is what it is, is they wanted to keep the street price at about $500 like everything else.  In order to keep that cost down, one thing they obviously opted for is less memory.    So talk all you want about how "it will never be done".or "how difficult it would be".  It has been done in the past.  Besides there is no right or wrong answer to this anyway since Line 6 will just do what they will do.  So stop treating this like a "they'll never do that".  You can't know that.  I'm just posting my hopes.  Not what I think they'll do.

Well for me  I'm thinking the ride is over... I simply have to many floorboards.  An xtl, x3, and a Hd500.  As line 6 has made a policy of never letting us have anything to look forward to and simply dumping the next big revolutionary thing on us.  I'm tired of paying for the future only to have it discontinued after several updates.  I want to be wrong but too many years of the same treatment is just a turn off

Once upon a time I remember buying a chip upgrade for my "state of the art" AxSys 212 amp   I believe this was somewhere around '97-'98.  It came with a new chip and a new faceplate to relfect the new settings.  I do remember having it professionally installed.

I doubt Line 6 will ever go that route again, but I can attest that it did happen.  Having said that the chances of that happening with the HD 500 are probably dead on zero.

Re: WHAT IS THE NEW OF LINE6 2013 ?????
by sparkyERTW on 2013-03-06 07:04:35

"Never letting us having anything to look forward to"? Deep edit parameters for the power amp AND cabinet? Addition of secondary amp channels on several models? Addition of Super Lead, SLO-100, B-15NF, Y7, and 3 custom creations (one of which, admittedly, was a happy accident)? Allowing parameter control via the Variax control knobs? Per-preset custom tunings? Variable input impedence? All provided at no additional cost?

Yeah... what a bunch of jerks Line 6 are. Not like all those other companies, who release free updates on a daily basis while still finding the time to do all your household chores for you and fondle your nether regions.

"Paying for the future"? Since when did Line 6 ever promise that! I bought the HD500 on the basis that the specs when released was good value for the money. I still feel like it was, and the updates have simply added to that value.

I'm not saying Line 6 never does anything worthy of criticism, but seriously... WTF.

Re: WHAT IS THE NEW OF LINE6 2013 ?????
by phil_m on 2013-03-06 07:14:02

How exactly would you want them to go about releasing new products, then? No company can afford to support their legacy products into perpetuity. Among its peers, Line 6 is really the only company that seems to release substantial upgrades to its products. At its core, Line 6 is still a tech-driven company, and a relatively quick turnover on product lines is simply how those sorts of companies work.

how bout something like Windows ReadyBoost...plug something into the USB port to give a little extra room for processing...or how 'bout something that connects via USB that would allow us to use the looper more like a real one i.e. store loops for later use, add effects to loops...that would be cool.

Thanks for your reply...

An user upgradable, modular unit.

It is my hope that the HD series will continue to be supported and upgraded ...not dumped as the past practice has been.  Line 6 could simply let us know that.

Can't speak for the other companies updating ...I use  L6 ...

Tec company or not ....I'm running out of room to store floorboards that I can't resell and make back half of what I payed for them...

Thanks

I think it will be very tough for them to come out with a new HD type product too soon without it being able to profile amps.

The HDPro can reamp and in all fairness is up there close with Fractals Axe II for one fifth of the price.

We do not have much to complain about with any of the HD models.

As owners of a HD we of course would like to see Line 6 support continue.

It would be wise of them to do so as other Guitar Multi FX pedalboad manufacturers improve their product line, they potentially attract first time buyers,  except,  if the HD models get upgraded as much as possible;  that kind of manufacturer confidence in a product wins the Sales staff and the new comer.

But as Line 6 don't respond on these user forums and any feedback gets logged unanswered as an archive it is partly in vein to read the riot act or

conspire discontent.

In the meantime, I'm getting the most out of what I got!

I just got my hd500 a few weeks ago, so I'm hoping for a few more updates before they drop the next unit on us.

Right before I bought a POD HD500 I sold my X3 Live for $330.00 on Ebay.  I had to ship it to Russia(buyer paid) but, I still sold it no problem.  Now 3 yrs later they still go for $100.00-$200.00.

Thanks for adding in...

Well I am glad you were able to resell at a decent price...it's my opinion that that's not the norm as I'm sure you agree.  Sure people will always buy at a cheap price ....I would.   It just breaks my chops to have take a Beating on a piece of equipment that was taken care of.

Sorry to go off. It seems like "Line 6 doesn't do anything for it's existing customers" is a frequent complaint around here, and I guess Wednesday was just the day I decided I had to say something. I'm all for tar-and-feathering Line 6 when they deserve it (dragging their feet creating 64-bit drivers when the 64-bit era was already upon us so that we could no longer use our devices properly, leaving many users in the dust for software necessary for DT-2.0 customization, etc.).  I just feel it dilutes those arguements when we complain about things that are unfair to complain about.

I have to disagree with that. I still use my Echo Layla 24 PCI audio card for my desktop studio computer. They discontinued this product in the arely 2000's and yet they still update the drivers for it. Line 6 could still support their lagacy products if they wanted to. I would still buy the new stuff and keep the old...... I'm doing that anyways... LOL!!!

Re: WHAT IS THE NEW OF LINE6 2013 ?????
by phil_m on 2013-03-08 08:30:43

Line 6 does still update drivers for a lot if its discontinued products. What I was thinking of was more of firmware updates.

Re: WHAT IS THE NEW OF LINE6 2013 ?????
by toneman2121 on 2013-03-08 10:26:22

yo when the new products come, i'm selling my hd and buying the product upgrade. i bought my hd on promotion and saved $50. so i bought the extended 3yr warranty for $80 and wound up spending $430 and no tax in de.

i have about one and a half years left on the warranty. even if there is only a few months left on it, should make a good selling point. not that i'd sell it for more, it's just that it would probably go faster.

i've had three pods. the 2.0, xt and hd. all beans. sold one to get the other and i got all of them at a discount i skipped over the x3. no funds.

so, if there's a point, i guess it's, it doesn't really cost that much to get the next new thing and i think it's worth every dollar.

but the real reason i'm posting is to remind everybody that if your computer goes down and you have to send it off, take the time to learn what all the damn buttons do in case you're without the use of an editor

Re: WHAT IS THE NEW OF LINE6 2013 ?????
by adamf on 2013-03-08 12:23:29

No problem man....L6 does do plenty...I love updates and yes they give wonderful ones at that...ie the deep editing parameters and the new amps are really cool.  When Marcus made the announcement and explained that needed processing power for the HDLine ment  a new processor/ floorboard board I was ok with that ...COMMUNICATION  from the company I'm sure sales didn't suffer because of it...I'm just hoping that l6 made a product that doesn't  to be replaced and can be upgraded thru firmware update...

I wouldn't worry about thing getting diluted...if you were around for the X3 fiasco you'll remember how fast that ball got rolling...Lol

Have a good one and we'll see where L6 takes us all next..

AN ANNOUNCEMENT  WOULD BE NICE  Hint hint
