Employee Spotlight: Dan Castillo, Lead Product Tester/Lab Coordinator
Before you came to Line 6 what was your experience working in the music industry?
Before working at Line 6 I went to school for recording engineering. I was in a band and used my education to record our album while working at the school helping students with their recording projects.

How did you come to work at Line 6?
After my time working at the school I went into the video games industry as a tester. After a few years in that industry I gained enough experience to be able to move on into a better position here at Line 6. Now I run the testing on most of our amplifiers and other hardware products. A dream come true in the most roundabout way!
How long have you worked for the company?
I've now been at Line 6 for just about three years.
What has your experience with Line 6 been like?
Working for Line 6 has been amazing. My favorite part has been working with such knowledgeable people who know about technology and gear but also about the music industry in general.
Can you share some of the highlights you've experienced at the company?
I remember being young and getting my hands on the first POD. That little red kidney bean of an amp simulator blew my mind. Here in 2011 I've been able to work on the new POD HD series and it's a great feeling to know that I have some part in giving another young guitarist out there that same experience!
What role does music play in your life?
I'm still an active musician. I play in a band called Pictures in Sound while also working on various projects for fun.
Do you play any instruments, and if so, which ones?
I play the guitar and cello...though I'm quite rusty on the cello after trading mine for guitar equipment years ago. I'm sure many guitarists out there know THAT feeling.
Do you use any Line 6 gear? If so, what are some favorite products, and how does the gear help inspire you to make music?
I've used Line 6 gear since my earliest days as a guitarist! I grew up on the PODs from 1.0 to the xt Live and now use an HD500 with two DT50s using L6 LINK™ along with an M13. The new HD500/DT50 combination has been inspirational – being able to get great stereo tones with the new HD amp models, using the loopers in both the HD500 and M13 to have multiple guitar parts going on...not only does it inspire me but my bandmates as well.
My band is now in the middle of recording an EP, much of which is being done using the TonePort® UX8 interface.
What have you learned about the significance of music instruments/products in the lives of musicians?
Cliché though it may sound, the thing about being a musician is that it's not so much that you want to be one as you need to be one. Having the right instrument in your hands and the right equipment through which to play it can make the difference between easily letting out those creative impulses or being frustrated with the process.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid I wanted to work with video games. I've lived that dream and now I'm living another!
