Hello,

I recently got a good price on a POD X3, so I took advantage of it.

With that said, it doesn't play well with Windows 11. So, I am unable to download and install model presets through my computer. Which isn't a problem, it was still worth it.

However, I am wondering if there are any resources with the manual settings for different popular models. I am eclectic, so I am looking for good blues tones, hard rock (like Metallica, etc.), rock (like Eddy Van Halen, etc.), clean tones, and the like.

My thought is that I can just find the ones I like and input them manually and then save them.

I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Hi.

My problem is:

Opened standalone Pod farm 2 + connected pod x3 with modelpacks = modelpacks work GREAT on any other ASIO physical/virtual device

But: opened standalone Pod farm 2 + connected pod x3 with modelpacks + connected Line 6 Toneport KB37 = modelpacks don't work on KB37, license not found, not autorized.

What should i do?

Hi, newbie here, just bought a POD X3 Pro rack mounted from Ebay. Using as a multi FX on a mixer aux send and return with inputs set to Stereo Line & outputs set to Match Studio/Direct. Is there a way to globally set inputs and outputs as every time I go to a preset other than 1A Plexi Lead the inputs default back to Guitar 1. Surely I'm simply missing something but cannot find a setting for this. Thanks in advance.

Keeps switching on to edit mode at random

Whilst using any patch, the system keeps switching onto edit mode without me touching it and then switching off the amp/cab too. very frustratiing when simply playing along. Its almost as if someone is hitting the edit button repeatedly. I thought the button might have it a dodgy contact that is causing this or maybe its a bug.

Any advice?

POD X3 Live firmware accidentally updated to regular POD X3 firmware by Line 6 Central. PLEASE HELP

Today I finally got a cable to hook up my Pod X3 live to my PC and update it, unfortunately, when I went to update my pedal, I used Line 6 Central which wrongly updated the firmware of my pod X3 live to the firmware of the Pod X3, and now my device won't work properly at all, all button mappings are wrong and nothing works.

Yes I already tried using the proper file to update it properly but because my POD X3 live is now identified as a Pod X3, none of the Line 6 softwares are accepting the RIGHT FILE because they think I'm using the file for the wrong device.

I genuinely don't know what to do, can anybody edit the Pod X3 Live firmware update to fake it and make Line 6 Central or Line 6 Monkey accept it, somehow bypass the software check???

hey peeps....about my x3 live....i have the appropriate line 6 power supply for it. it turns on but the screen stays orange with nothing on it. all the lights are working. i can switch between effect channels but no sound is coming out. what the f*&% is going on?

I updated my POD X3 Live to firmware v2.0 and now USB no longer works—Windows only shows “Unknown Device”. I have a Roland UM-One MkII USB‑MIDI interface ready to flash via SysEx. I’m looking for firmware version 1.11 in .syx format (or any version prior to 2.0 such as 1.21). If you have a backup dump or know where it can be found, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Hi, I bought the MXR Rockman X100 to use as my main distortion with my POD X3 LIVE through the effects loop. The problem is that I can't get the Rockman's sound to stand out enough. I think I'm doing something wrong, and I don't know what it is. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks.

Hello. I'm thinking of buying a POD X3 bean on ebay. I play guitar and bass, only at home, almost always with headphones.

I want to know whether it is possible to play a backing track through the POD X3 so that I can play along. Please would you tell me?

If it is possible, I assume I would have to use either the XLR input or the USB connection as an input, but I'm guessing that might be outside of their design parameters.

Windows 11 problem with drivers for my X3

According to this site the X3 and Gearbox are okay with Windows 11. But not quite. I've been getting this message:

A driver cannot load on this device. A security setting is preventing this driver from loading. You will need to adjust your settings to load this driver.

Two buttons then below it say Learn more and Cancel.

When I clicked Learn more it brought me to this Microsoft page:

A driver can't load on this device - Microsoft Support

I'm not sure if I should turn off the Memory Integrity setting.

Have to switch to Windows 11 will drivers and gearbox work?

My current computer will not run Windows 11 so eventually I will have to buy a new one with Windows 11. I have decided to make the switch now instead of later on. But I got this feeling that the Line 6 POD X3 drivers and Gearbox are not going to want to run on Windows 11.

I will certainly try and install and check it out.

Power Requirements for X3 Live?

I have an X3 Live that I've been using off and on for a while and the power supply is getting pretty worn down and I'm thinking about replacing it.

I've been googling a lot and I see some replacement power supplies, but I haven't seen any information about the inputs required (specifically the mah needed). If I can, I'd like to get a multi-power supply instead of just replacing the power-brick, but I want to make sure I get one that can put out the necessary juice. Does it really need the 2000mah that the OEM supply puts out?

I picked up a POD X3 Pro because I wanted one (now I have both the X3 Bean and the X3 Pro). Problem is I cannot record my guitar with the X3 Pro. I chose the correct driver under ASIO driver in Reaper. Under enable inputs I chose what I usually choose and that is First Mix L and Last Tone 1 Dry.

I armed a track but when I hit CTRL + R to record nothing happens. I don't get a signal coming into the track.

So I'm suspecting that something is not set correctly somewhere. I have posted two screenshots for you to look at.

Don't know what is wrong.

Hello!~Its my first post here, but ive been a first owner and user of the Pod x3 live since '09
Its been the tool that kept me around music since my early teen years, and ive been playing since then. However this machine appears to be dying, and its support/fixes are coming ever rarer and harder to find. I live in Mexico and bought my unit at a Guitar Center in San Diego and thanks to this amazing multi fx i ve been playing in various styles (Cumbia, Metal, Jazz, Alternative rock, progressive...) and projects with different setups at a variety of venues. I have to mention that i had it stored for a couple of years while i was attending higher education. I rarely ever play through and amp (my last amp a fender frontman 212r died a while ago).

I am still to the day impressed by the ammount of solutions this tool provides... HOWEVER...

Ive always had issues with the pedals not functioning properly, where they dont click. Then the unit started controling itself or going crazy all over the place with my settings and rendering it useless pretty much. I had a dude clean the unit and that gave it some kind of a second life to the piece... But its been a year now and the clicks for the pedals are functioning only when they feel like doing so. and now the Master Volume knob shoots all the way up from 1 STRAIGHT TO 10, making it extremely painful to even try to practice with headphones.
I can rarely find any solution or official answer to this or other problems, and often times it requires replacements.

Not everyone out there has spare 800-2000 dollars for a piece of gear that may replace what this powerful machine has done.

What are our options here for the owners and users about our right to repair our units and carry on the huge sound of this machine?
I know its a digital era piece of equipment, but i love it in the guitar world how other legendary pieces of equipment continue to recieve support to this day, such as tube amps, and other pieces that were mass-produced not so long ago are just... not viable?

Is there some online resource or site that provides cover on documentation or schematics of this unit?

Having this unit in this state is pulling me away from bandmates and any attempt at participating on any musical endeavor for god knows how long.

Purchased A PODX3 Live From Reverb - But I Need Help!!!

This past weekend, my Dad bought me a PODX3 from Reverb and I absolutely love the presets on the unit but....the seller didn't send the red book that normally comes with the unit and I'm confused as to how to be able to go through all of the effects and edit the volume levels to where I want them. That is all I want to do - edit the volume levels and leave the rest alone.

Can anybody help? I would be so very grateful!!

If I could send two dry signals into Reaper, then I could put an amp sim on each signal which would be cool and probably sound quite good.

Pod x3 pro rackmount- screeching

Good afternoon all,

Question, before I put my old pod x3 pro rackmount in the bin.

It has suddenly become unusable. On turning on and switching programmes all I get is an excruciating screeching sound, from headphones and line outputs. High clip signal occasionally also on front gtr input even without a guitar plugged in. Then, sometimes all goes quiet and there is no noise at all.

Does anyone have any clues as to where I should look before leaving it out for the binmen please? Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi all.... I'm a noob to the game. Bought a used POD X3 Live and am running the learning curve to get the most out of it.

After installing Gearbox on my Mac Book Pro running Sierra (v10.12.6) I noticed a few folders in the Line 6 directory created in my Doc's. There's plenty of 'presets / patches' in there but none of them will load into Gearbox's 'Hardware Memory Window'! The message displayed is always "Tone Load: Unable to load tone; Reason (Code 8000A009) Unsupported patch type".

Are these 'registered patches' that I need to pay for or is there something wrong with the file extension (.l6t) .... if so... why does Gearbox provide these as 'available' when you install it but then block them from use?

I've looked for this 'error message' in other treads here in the Line 6 Community but the few I found have 0 responses and are over a decade old!

I'm currently reading the Gearbox_Help.pdf but there's a LOT of info in that and is taking some sweet time to get through.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

volume pedal problem with pod x3 live

Greetings guitar freaks, the volume on my x3 live would still be on even the pedal is pressed towards min and it happens on all patches on my x3 live. I need to use the volume of my guitar to shut volume. all settings on patches are set 0(min) and 100(max) and can't figure any other way to set the volume.

POD X3 Windows 10 software question

Hi, really daft question. I've owned my POD X3 since new and flit in and out of playing guitar every few years.

Today (on a Win10 PC in reinstalled last year) I went to use my POD X3 through the PC. It works, USB is fine and it picks up OK. But I am missing a way to control what tones are active on the x3.

Pretty sure it used to be gear box. But that has been replaced with Pod Farm now by the looks of it, but that has a strange problem for me.

It lists a ton of presets on pod farm (different to those on my hardware) and when I select one, the tone changes.

However, there ends up with some strange mashup of the tone selected on the hardware and what I selected on Pod Farm.

For example, if the hardware says "American Punk" and I select "Nothing Else matters Clean" that sounds totally different to if the tone on the Pod is say "Blizzard".

So the Pod Farm doesn't seem to have full control of what's happening on the POD.

What am I missing? I just want to be able to select tones from my PC and have a uniform experience.

I assume no way of getting GearBox back and running? Or some other tool that selects the tones actually on my Pod X3?

Hi. I have a POD X3. I know it is a legacy product and no longer supported. The last time I used it with a DAW was with a 32-bit Windows 7 machine.

What drivers and other software are still available that I can download to make the POD more computer-aware, and to make my computer aware of the POD.

Tbh, I don't recall the softwares I used with it under Windows 7, but there was Gearbox and POD Farm and something with Monkey....

But what all is available today for Windows 10 and 11, so I can get the most of the X3? Looking forward to using it again!!

Please put the Pod X3 Live back in production. Just the way it was, No new moddeling tech or current gen processing.

I have owened, Pod HD500, Pod HD400, Pod HD Pro & Pod HD Desktop (twice). Every amp model sounds exactley the same.

I think your current gen Algorhythmns are flawed.

You had it right with X3 Live. I have the X3 Bean but need the effects loop of the X3 Live.

I think this would be a nice alternative that you could offer for players

Rubber plugs for bean POD stand?

I use an X3 bean pod on a mic stand adapter. My only gripe is that if you look at the rubber locating plugs crosseyed they pop out and disappear. Superglue didn't work, RTV didn't work. Anybody have any luck keeping them in? Can I get a bag of them?

X3 Live Parameters Changing by Themselves

My faithful X3 Live has started behaving badly recently. It's as if the larger, silver parameter tweak knobs are moving on their own (but not really, of course) causing changes to the patch I'm using as I'm playing. Evidence of this is that I switch to a patch and start using it, then I notice a change in the sound of the patch. I look at the screen and sure enough, there's an asterisk next to the patch info, indicating a change. I occasionally catch the display itself changing to the parameters page and then flashing back to the home screen. This problem happened four or five times last night in the course of an hour and has been happening pretty much every time I use it lately.

I've been assuming dirty pots (or maybe these are encoders?), so I tried rapidly turning each knob and then setting them to the 12 o'clock position. This sometimes seems to solve the problem, but it's only temporary and it comes back after a while. I've found no actual fix.

Is this a known issue? Any suggestions as to what's going wrong and how to fix?

Question about different presets but using same amp

I have about 5 different presets in my POD X3. Each preset using the same amp which is the JCM-800. But each preset sounds different, perhaps due to variations in effects chain or something else.

When I record my guitar into Reaper, I now send a wet signal plus a dry signal into Reaper. Then when I'm done recording, I'll experiment with putting amp sims and effects on the dry track.

My question is this: Do each of my 5 presets send a little different sounding dry track into Reaper? Or technically, is the sound of the dry track the same with each preset?

If the dry sound of each preset really is different, this is going to most likely affect the sound I'm hearing when I add amp sims and effects.

PODX3 (BEAN) input right side not working - guitar or mic

OK so, just now, the right side of the input - both the guitar input and mic, (set up w/ an adapter and "leveled") works, all fine and dandy, then stops working. No sound. Everything else is working. All outputs are coming out stereo. Programs are running. Shut off the unit, power up, everything's fine. Then, just stops coming out of the right side. So it's not the jack (I read previous posts), because when I encountered the problem, I switched to an adapter for the mic input, and switched inputs on (in) the program. Right side - nothing. Shut it off, turn it on. It comes back. So anyone encounter this little glitch?

How would I tune my guitar to E-flat using the built-in tuner?

Hello, I just recently upgraded to Windows 10 and things started getting tricky.

When I have my Pod X3 Live plugged in via USB, I can't hear anything if I turn on "listen to this device".

I use Audacity to record guitar but now when my Pod is plugged in I get an Internal PortAudio error - could not find any audio devices.

Sometimes I use NI Guitar Rig 5 or IK Amplitube 3 for additional effects but both ASIO and WASAPI input show Pod as "not connected" on them.

My Pod driver is 4.2.7.1. and I use generic Realtek High Def audio drivers. Tried reinstalling both to no avail.

Happy to provide additional details if needed.

Found the comments regarding the Line 6 incompatibility with Big Sur.

This is a bit of a blow if one is already running Big Sur prior to getting a Line 6 unit.

How long are we going to have to wait until we can install and then reach the full potential of the Products?

Is there a compatible product that will work on a Mac with OS Big Sur for editing Patches etc?

X3 Live and KB37 drivers no longer recognized in windows 10

Hi all,

Today I find that I can no longer connect X3 live and kb37 with my Windows 10 PC.

The latest Monkey software won't connect to either device.

All my other USB musical devices are working perfectly fine with any cable.

Windows 10(64 bit) does see my line6 gear but reports driver error..I have installed the latest drivers for both.

The x3 was working perfectly fine with the PC a few weeks back..same with the kb37 a few months ago.

Wondering if anyone else having this sort of issue.

understanding X3 Live's XLR&1/4" output levels & preamping

I'm somewhat layman in my understanding of this stuff, so bear with me if I seem confused. And sorry I've got so many questions. I'll be happy just to get some of them answered.

1) Do the x3 Live's balanced XLR outputs do what an active DI box does? UPDATE: The best official spec sheet I've found is this, and it's incomplete. http://line6.com/media/ips/uploads//monthly_08_2013/ccs-1070239-0-58043700-1376440351.jpg But apparently some user did some investigating and came up with these additional specs. http://www.benvesco.com/blog/the-digital-age/2007/pod-x3-specs-revealed/

2) Do the XLR direct L&R outs supply a.)somewhat preamped signal? b.) lower impedance than the signal coming from my passive guitar pickups? I've read that this is what an active DI box does, yet the outputs are intended for XLR mic inputs on the mixing board, and mic level is even lower than instrument or -10 to +4 dB line level...which is seemingly the exact opposite of being preamped, so I'm confused about this.
UPDATE: As for b.), yes, almost surely. As for the preamping confusion, "Mixing-console mic inputs in a live-sound context typically expect to handle signal levels from maybe as low as -55dBu, up to about +5dBu.", whereas passive guitar pickups might only get as high as 0dBu, so although mic level is normally low, it can be higher than instrument level too.

3) I've read that using a balanced line (before and after amplification?) will eliminate AC ground loop hum, so shouldn't every guitarist do this as a failsafe, even though there are other ways to prevent ground loop hum? ...rather than using the 1/4" outs that aren't balanced with no DI box.
UPDATE: In addition to the balanced advantage, passive DIs apparently provide some reduction of ground loop hum because they use transformers that literally break the signal path (galvanic isolation), so the ground loop is broken. https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/prepare-di

4) What about the 1/4" outputs, and what level do they send at? UPDATE: They send at line level or instrument level, depending on what the "Line Out Level" switch is set to.

If I use the 1/4" outputs to send to a physical combo amp and I turn the X3 Live's Amp and Cab emulation off by manually switching both to the off state, does that achieve the same thing as choosing "Combo Front" for the X3's 1/4" Outputs setting, or does it achieve the same thing as the "Combo Pwramp" setting instead...or neither?

5) With regard to using a different amp simulation VST that is not the X3's (running on a computer), yet using the X3 as an analog input device (so not using its USB capabilty) into that computer...

and therefore needing to first send my guitar signal into a computer's audio interface... the audio interface is of course made to accept unadulterated instrument level signal straight from a guitar. But I once had a Zoom c5.1t fx pedal that had a built in tube\solid state preamp. And I liked how this c5.1t shaped the sound with its preamps, so assuming my ears and my taste are good, shouldn't it be a good thing to look for something to similarly preamp my guitar's clean signal before it reaches the amp simulation VST, to help it out a little so that I'm starting with a good base sound? I'm questioning if I could use the X3 in a similar manner as how I once used the c5.1t as a preamp (sending via either 1/4" or via balanced XLR outputs). Wouldn't it also reduce noise a bit by making the signal hotter earlier in the signal chain?

Volume pedal not working POD X3 Live

Hi guys,

I have a POD X3 Live and the other day the volume pedal stopped working. As soon as I switch to WAH sound comes through, but as soon as I go back to VOL no sound comes out the amp. The guitar is still recognized by the tuner when the volume pedal is activated, but no matter what I try I can't get the volume pedal to work again. Any tips? Possibly wiring or is it more a configuration setting?

The Effects Loop

I don't have an effects loop on the back of my X3 Bean, but the X3 Pro does. Has anyone tried putting a stomp box in the effects loop of one of these PODs? Like even the HD or the Helix?

Just wondering if it sounds quite good or quite bad.

Line 6 Pod X3 Live Ground hum

My Pod X3 live has developed a ground hum which Is constant when plugged in. The ground lift switch does nothing to fix the issue. I am having this issue both at home, as well as if I take it out to play. I have acquired great cables, ensured the power has good ground and not on a noisy circuit. I can unplug the input cable and have volume at zero and still get the 60Hz hum on the output. Its on both LowZ and High Z outputs (left and right for each). The power supply is the stock unit that came with the system. Could it be the power supply needs to be replaced or is this an internal issue where a ground wire, solder joint, or other component which isolates ground has failed?

I just recorded a short guitar lick into Reaper and the volume on the track was too much. It was too hot. I would have sworn that before what I did was open the Line 6 Tools folder and open up the Audio and Midi Devices box and then click on the Inputs & Recording tab and then I used the slider that says Hardware Monitor Level and control the gain on the track in Reaper. Least that's what I thought I did.

Tried that now and the only thing that did was lower the volume of my guitar in my headphones (which I don't want). It had no effect on controlling the volume or gain on the track.

Where did I go wrong?

Lost All My Tone 2 Sounds On Pod X3 Live

The second bank of tones that I have in my setup has all defaulted to one setting, for no apparent reason. Must be a bug in the hardware. The setups can be saved and reloaded via Gearbox (running the most up to date vs3.72 and line monkey vs1.65) but the Pd X3 Live display just shows Tone 1 changing and Tone 2 remaining constantly set on 'Mr Clean'. I can't figure out how to get this to stop! And I've got a gig tomorrow! Has anyone else had this problem? Is there some button I've pressed on the controls that could have caused this? Is there a workaround for this?

Does anybody know where I can get my X3 Live repaired back to it's out-of-box state? I know it may be old but I still love the sound and the sounds I get from it. And the fact that I can have both guitars hooked up and ready to go. The Helix is out of my price range and the Helix LT doesn't have an aux input (unless I missed it). Thanks for any help.

Question about the dry, unprocessed track my POD is sending into Reaper

When I listen to the playback after recording both a wet and a dry track into Reaper, I mute the processed track and just listen to the clean, dry, unprocessed track. Then I compared it to the clean, unprocessed track that I earlier recorded using my POD HD Pro X.

It seems to my ears that the dry track recorded with my POD HD Pro X sounds a little brighter which I kinda like.

The dry, clean track that was recorded using my X3 sounds a bit darker and maybe a little more bassy.

And my ML Sound Labs amp sim does not sound the same on both dry, clean tracks.

How can I brighten up the dry, clean track a little?

Or should I try making a Tone 2 on my X3 going through like say a Plexi a little bright maybe and record that into the dry, clean track in my DAW?

Pod X3 - don't reload a bunch of defaults all the time?

Hello everyone, new Line6 user here. I just acquired a Pod X3 (red kidney bean format) for a good price. It's a pretty powerful and good sounding machine. I keep the main outupts both muted, and connect with USB to a laptop where i use Renoise to add other effects such as IR cab sims, etc. This is the only way i can disable the "local echo" aka "direct monitoring" of this unit. There's a major annoyance with this setup, and i guess it would still be an annoyance in general.

First, if i'm looking for an amp model and/or want to A/B compare with another one, it's a huge pain in the lollipop because the default values for that amp AND its associated cab get reloaded if you just change the amp model. This happens with (most) other effects as far as i can tell, but it's mostly annoying on the amp+cab modeling.

A similar problem is when changing presets, my connectivity settings under "inputs" and "outputs" always get changed. I always have one instrument connected to each of the inputs (guitar on guitar-in to tone 1, and bass on XLR to tone 2) but this gets messed up each time i change presets.

Also, is there any way to send a recorded DI signal from USB to be processed by this unit - such as pre-recorded dry guitar tracks for re-amping with different amp/fx without using analog cables? The 8-channel output is very powerful but the 2-channel input could be massively improved by adding an extra channel / pair of channels for this. One for guitar-in, one for XLR-in?

Just in case anyone happens to dig out the old firmware code for this machine (or even better, release it :D :D !!!)

I'm thinking of going back to using my X3 and I would need to be able to send a wet, processed signal and at the same time send a dry, unprocessed signal into Reaper.

The X3 can do that can't it?

On my Pod X3 Live there is a switch that enables you to turn on/off both tones in a Dual Tone patch.
I also have a Pod x3 connected to an FBV Shortboard MkII...... is there any way to set up one of the Function switches on the FBV to turn on/off both tones in a Dual Tone patch?
