My amp is a Line 6 75 Spider IV

Is there a copy available somewhere? I found one for the FBV shortboard MK II and was able to update that locally. Why isn't the Spider IV firmware update available for download too? 

I just bought Spider IV and it's strange for me that master knob is active between 0 and 3, maybe 3,5. I found post on old forum but there is no awnser (http://line6.com/support/thread/21395).

It's very annoying for me because on concerts it's hard to regulate master volume :/ Maybe someone resolve this problem ?

I have a Spider 120 with two 10" speakers. One speaker has a black/red wire combo the other a black/white color combo.

When the white/black are plugged into their speaker the amp makes no unusual sounds. If I plug in the black/red wires on their speaker, it will pop, crackle, and make all kinds of noise. If I leave that black wire on and remove just the red, the noise goes away. Touch the red wire to it's post again and the noise comes back.

If I swap the wire sets from one speaker to the other, the OTHER speaker makes the noise. So logic says it's the red/black wire combo that's the problem.

However, I inspected the wires harness and did a continuity check on all the wires. All four were at 0.2ohms. The board they plug into is BRAND NEW, I just got it from Full Compass. Actually, I've replaced all the boards except the one for all the connections on the back (LAN, etc)

I don't understand! Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

2) Any recommendations to sites online to buy spares of boards etc? I'm based in SE Spain.

3) What's the likelihood of an experienced amp fixer (I am not one) being able to fault find and get parts?

4) Failing all else, any recommendations for price for a spares/repairs posting on eBay Spain? As I said, line in, headphone, speaker and amp and display all seems to be working happily.

(PS I also have a Amplifi 150 that only lights up the ABCD voices dimly, but other than that totally unresponsive. Power supply or System board? Also cleaned it down, no luck)

I recently bought a Line 6 Spider IV 75W and FBV III and was excited to do a firmware update and check out the software. It looked really cool in videos and ads!

Unfortunately, I found out that Line 6 has stopped supporting older products like mine and doesn't release any updates anymore.

So, I'm reaching out to anyone who's used this gear: How does it work for you? I've heard there might be a way to do an "offline update" without connecting to their servers and still use some software with those products.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like FBV III shows up in Central.  But i can not do anything more.

Play the guitar , and the sound is attenuated like 99%, even with volume up, but sometimes pops up to full volume when changing settings like to BLUES for example.  Full volume resumes for a second or two , then goes back to like 1% volume.

The input jack seems ok- moving it about doesn't change things.

Seems like the signal path is disrupted- some plug or cold solder joint perhaps? Seems like a mechanical issue not a chip fault. I did perform a factory reset. No difference.

Advice on self-diagnosis/repair is appreciated. I have a VTM, mini color o-scope, and signal generator and more on my bench. 

Since two of my three Line 6 amps (the other is Spider V 240HC) have this issue , statistically, sounds like this is a probable fault that many many people have had.  I'm hoping that there are many methods to diagnose and fix it..

The A, B, C, & D buttons also do not reset and have the same volume issues.

What is wrong?

Spider IV newb here.  How do you load the "bonus" presets available in the .pdf files referred to in FAQ?  See below.  I can load custom tones no problem but do not see how you can add them from a .pdf.  Do I have to create preset myself from settings in .pdf?

Q: Where are the "bonus" presets that are not programmed into the amp?

I've been trying to connect my Spider IV to my computer and nothing seems to be working.. It keeps saying :No Line 6 Device Found" Is there anyway to solve this?

I have the shortboard, with the 4 buttons/1 pedal for wah/volume, but you can only use it to switch between the four models.

For example, say you want to turn on the echo effect for just a few notes or something and then turn it off seamlessly, without having to change the amp model. Is this possible?

So pending I may have multiple issues, lets start with the guitar input. I tried a firmware reset and reinstall - no change. I looked inside and didn't see anything damaged or burnt or not plugged in. Im guessing these use a DAC on the input plug to send the signal to the main board. Have there been issues with the input plugs? I can hear the speakers pop when I turn it on so I dont think its a output amp issue - Something on the mainboard. Just weird it happened when it wasnt being used.

Currently own a Spider IV 150 combo (I’ve had this absolute workhorse for over 12 years now!!) I have the tones dialled in pretty good in that time. 

Long story short means I need it to be a bit more portable and doesn’t necessarily need the speakers anymore so I’m going to convert it into a head only. I’m pretty handy with wood and saws etc and can pretty much build one for no cost whatsoever. 

Question is on wiring… obviously the 150 has all the output jacks on the back of the head already, so what would be the best option with the existing wires that go to the speakers? Can I just blank them off with some wire wrap and leave them inside? Or would I need to remove them from inside completely?

After 14 years away from music just completed my setup today and have a question.

I want to connect my Boss ME-90 directly to the guitar input of my Line 6 Spider IV 75 and my question is what to do. Do I set the Spider IV to manual and choose the Clean sound or it's recommended in another way? If so how should I do?

Also, do I let the bass, treble, gain, etc, on the Spider IV down to zero and only use the Master Channel volume?

I know you're not supposed to service these amps yourself but I'm just curious what causes the problem and if there's any way I can prevent something from my end.

Almost all mixer inputs accept BALANCED audio signals and when you send a STEREO signal to such an input you will only hear the audio that is not common to either channel. Mostly it will be a really crappy, low level signal that is impossible to use to anything.  The easy fix is to lift one of the conductors on the cable (tip or ring) and leave it unconnected to anything. A more complex fix is to combine the leaft and right channels to make a mono signal and put it on the tip of a cable sent to the mixer and leave the ring unconnected. 

WHY?

Because BALANCED audio format is one of the coolest tricks around. A balanced output has the guitar (audio) signal AND the inverse of the guitar (audio)  signal both on the one cable. Signal on the tip (or pin 2 in XLR) and inverse of the signal on the ring (pin 3 of the XLR) . When these signals are sent to a BALANCED INPUT, the signals are SUBTRACTED from each other to produce a signal with twice the gain. This is all done to eliminate the noise which will be a positive signal on both conductors. 

Say the signal is 2 volts and the noise is .5 volts.    You get 2 - (-2) = 4 for the signal and  .5 -.5 = 0 for the noise. brilliant stuff because it is so simple. 

So when you plug your DIRECT OUT into a balanced input (almost all mixers have balanced inputs) you get LEFT SIGNAL - RIGHT SIGNAL = almost all the good stuff gone! 

I was shocked that a great company like LINE6 would pass this off and even tell you tpo use the DIRECT OUT to record.  Really a remedial design issue that should have been caught before they made the amps.

I am a little confused on how to connect my Marshall DSL100 head to my Line 6 4x12 cabinet. The Marshall has two 8 ohm jacks and one 16 ohm jack. The cabinet has two 8 ohm jacks: one 8 ohm jack is wired for the right two speakers and the other 8 ohm jack is wired for the left two speakers. How would I connect the Marshall to the Line 6 cabinet without damaging anything? Thanks

I did a factory reset which didn't change anything.  I did find out that if I start up while holding the tap button in test mode it behaves normally.  The MP3 sounds good also, but the headphones have the same volume increase.

It has been very lightly used (probably less than 50 hours) but is old so the local line 6 authorized repair person didn't seem to want to look at it.

Any ideas would be appreciated since I can't think of any more settings to check.

Has anyone made a DIY interface or a footswitch to communicate via the RJ45 port?  Would another manufacturers pedal work ? 

I'd also love the ability to use the monkey software to edit the presets.

           I'm looking for a replacement speaker for my Line 6 Spider III 75watt, it takes a celestion G12P-80 watt 8 ohm speaker. They are very costly new. So before I go that route I'm looking to see if I can hunt one down used. If anyone has one that you'd like to sell please post for me to get back in touch with you. Thanks,

excuse me, if my english is not the best... I´m from Germany.

My problem:

Since many years I have a Spider IV HD150 Top. It worked fine, but now it turns completely off and after 2-3 seconds on again.

The Top starts at the point, where it turns off .

I checked the power cable and the switch, it seems to be OK.

Also I checked the solder points ( I´m technician), the seem to be OK.

Anyone ever heard of this prob?

Shall I change the Power Supply PCB?

Where could I get it in Germany?

I have tried to connect the systems together by using 3/4 inch connection but am getting no sound from the amp :( 

Can anyone advise me if they have connected the amp to other edrum units and do I need to do anything special.

If I set guitar volume at ~4 or less (general estimate) it appears to work fine.  Above that, amp is erratic.  Hope this helps someone having this issue.  Could

be a fix for other solid state amps with this issue.
