Hei. I have been latelly experiencing that my jm4 is having and odd behavior. The Lcd screen suddenly shows that the volume is being moved while playing. Evenmore, it can happen while trying to hit play or stop on an overdub not allowing the action to take effect and even not allowing to record while it happens. It also happens very often, I would say with intervals of 10 to 15 secs or less but it is not a fixed time. I have come to the idea that the volume knob is damage. I am wondering if somebody else is experiencing the same problem? Eventually if this is due to the volume knob where could i posiblly get a replacement or what type of knob should i get for this equipment

Thanks

I purshased a used JM4 Looper and today I did the first tests with it.

The JM4 restarts every time I want to check the tracks on the SD card. I think, the card is empty. Whenever I turn the control wheel (the one right next to the display), the JM4 restarts after a few moments. The logo appears on the display and I hear the typical crackling sound in the headphones.

Is this a firmware error? Does anyone know this?

I haven't found anything like this on the Internet.

I'm using the JM4 as part of my solo gigs. I've pre-recorded several of my acoustic guitar songs and loaded them up on the SD card to use as backing tracks for some of my song performances. Is there a way to program the footswitch to advance to the next song rather than have to bend over and use the select knob? Much appreciated if someone could provide the solution.

	Hi All,

I wanted to ask about workflow tips for using the looper to play songs as a one man band. What's your best advise to play a song with chorus, verse, bridges and performing? Would you pre-record the entire song or would you have a loop for each part and switch between them if this is even possible? I'm just trying to get a set down and asking about the best way to approach it.

Also is there a place to download files that would work with this looper for popular songs?

	Thanks in advance,

My JM4 was crashing/restarting anytime I tried to save a project to the SD card. I called customer service and learned that SD cards larger than 2 gigs will cause this to happen. I had an 8 gig card in my unit.

So I removed the 8 gig card and the issues was resolved. Reason? For some reason (sorry I didn't get any details from the Line 6 rep I spoke with) when the JM4 was released the largest SD cards out there were only 2 gigs. So in my case when it tried to access an 8 gig card it simply didn't know what to do, freaked out, and executed a re-boot. I can only can wonder what it would have done had I installed a 32 gig card!.

If the moderator of this forum has a more definitive answer to this issue, I'm sure we'd all appreciate learning more.

The JM4 is really a unique product. It may technically be "old" these days, but it is still a very powerful creative tool.

I'm visiting China where the power is 220 volt. I plugged my JM-4 looper in and I probably blew out my rig. The question is did I just blow out the Line 6 PX-2G power supply or did I also blow out the pedal as well? This is to ask, will the pedal still work if I get a new power supply. This is what I'm hoping for. Is there anyone out there who can fill me in?

	Hi,

Can anyone identify for me a commercially available-for-purchase (as of 12/2020) and known-to-work 2GB SD card for the JM4?

The 2GB SD card I bought does not work. Buying card after card in a blind attempt to find one that works is just going to be too frustrating to attempt!

Alternatively, does anybody actually *have* an old 2 GB SD card that used to be in a JM4 which they have parted with? I would be happy to arrange shipping and a fee to acquire it from you if so.

I just want to get the most out of my JM4!

I've read a few help topics on this subject but nothing it helping. I had a 2Gb SD card which worked fine, but unfortunately lost it bought a new one, but 2 GB again, but I try to format it in the looper, it just resets it self. I've tried formatting it on my iMac to FAT16, but the looper just resets again. I've tried adding a folder called LINE6, but that doesn't work either. Changed the the name of the card to LINE6 that does't work.

I've formatted it several times in there looper, but same results, I don't really want to go and purchase another card just in case it happens again, and everybody I know there SD cards are above 2GB. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sorry if this has been asked already. Very new to recording-looping. Using the JM4 and its the first go at this. i've used it to loop bass guitar and play on top of that with guitar. Is it possible to play your own drums and loop that? I tried mic'n the drums but the volume output is very low almost not there. If its possible could someone dumb down the process so a new guy looping might understand. Thanks!

	Hi Guys!

I have a JM4 Lopper, It is a great fun playing with it. Although I have quite of a problem.

After saving a recording onto the SD Card by the looper and then transferred it to my laptop I have found that when I convert the file extension from .JAM to .WAV I have no drum as a backing track. Basically it seems like the looper did not include the drum on the recording when saving it on the SD Card. I don't know if the drum gets lost when converting the file or it is basically never been included in the recording. When I say the drum I am referring to the ones built in the looper that we can play on top.

Also when I try to save the recording directly from the looper as .WAV to the SD Card it said "SD-CARD write error"

Is there a way to fix this problem?

	Thank you in advance!

I was helping out a friend today who has been struggling with his JM4.

It sounds great through the PA, but when he tries to use it with any of his amps, there is LOUD hiss, even before turning up the volume on the guitar. We tried assorted setups of going into the effects loop, or using the guitar out instead of the stereo outs.. but all had their version of either killing the tone, or noise.

I do have some other questions... but simply to start..

He has a Carvin 1 x 12 tweed combo amp that he wants to use with the looper. Are there any special settings? I have a Helix and there are certain output and input level settings to set based on how you want to connect to an amp so I'm thinking this is the step he's missing.

Additionally, He wants to send a signal to his amp (for his stage monitor) and the PA. He's currently micing, but it seems like he should be able to get line out somehow.

Finally, how does one ByPass the JM4? The Carvin is a great sounding amp all by itself. There are some tunes where he doesn't want the signal going through the jm4 at all, just bypass direct to the amp.

Thanks in advance... and yes I looked in the manual and seached... I guess I wasn't asking the right questions because I came up empty.

I read in manual : "By default, loading a Recording will automatically load a custom-crafted guitar tone".

So is the a way to set such an association between my own custum stuff ?

Do i have to save the wav sd file to "Internal Recording" to do that ?

I have downloaded some MP3 backing tracks and have tried to convert them to WAV using multiple audio converters but the JM4 keeps telling me "WAV files must be 16bits 44100Hz mono" after I put the SD card in. I have exported files using Audacity and VLC and set the parameters to the 16bit 44100Hz and mono but I keep getting the same result. Does anyone know of a way to convert MP3 files so they will work with the JM4 or am I missing something simple?

2) Setting the tempo for a drum loop should not require bending over selecting and scrolling through that tiny screen, it should be foot tap-able!

3) Because of my first 2 comments... I would like to run a drum machine (or in my case the fantastic drum beats+ app), and a bass/guitar through the JM4 and record a loop in real time. Does the JM4 not allow for more than 1 input at a time? Even the lowest end Boss RC looper has inputs a+b, which can both be recorded simultaneously to a loop. ie: a drum machine to A, and a bass to B.. play along to the groove until you're ready, then hit the looper and make a loop of any length... both signals are looped. AS far as i can tell, you can only have one input being looped at a time with the JM4?

Conclusion/Comments:

-I could be corrected, but the JM4 drum tracks overlooked some very basic jazz grooves (while overloading on tiny variations of rock grooves), and not having the tempo foot tap-able (or even a tactile and quickly accessed scroll wheel) is a major pain. The fact that there is a TAP button on there, but is only for the time based effects and not the track tempos is funny!

-More than 1 input at a time would allow a bassist and a guitar player to track a loop at the same time.. or a drum machine and bass.. 2 guitarists... etc...

-As I have read repeatedly throughout this forum.. who buys this thing for the amp models and effects!? Make a kickass LOOPER Line 6, see what all other loopers do well, and interview a cross section of musicians who use it for gigging and practice, and get it ALL in there! The Boss RC stations do most these things, I just wish they had more drum play along tracks than the 10ish on there (again with no basic jazz, or even a met that doesn't accent on beat 1 of 4/4).

Hi. I have a bit of a problem with a JM4. When I turn the unit on, it says "NO FIRMWARE IN UNIT". followed by "INSERT SD-CARD TO UPGRADE FIRMWARE". However, firmware upgrade doesn't work. I have tried to start flashing the firware with several SD cards with several file systems, but nothing happens when I insert SD card.

The unit has no warranty left. I had the same kind of thing happen to a brand new POD HD500X when it came out. I got a replacement for that from warranty though. This looper on the other hand, having no warranty left and no way to flash..any ideas?

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a looper and found the JM-4, downloaded the manual but couldn't find an answer to this. So I need some help from the JM-4 owners, please.

I'd like to build some loops for one song (e.g. verse, chorus, solo) and switch between them live with the footswitches in record select mode. But how does the JM-4 react? Does it finish the actual loop before starting the next selected or does it start immidiately after pressing the footswitch?

Can the JM-4 handle my needs? I like to have seperate loops for different songparts to be flexible (e.g. extend Solo, repeat chorus...)

Thanks for your help!

I recently got my DL4. After experimenting with the loop sampler using my micro korg - i realized after recording a loop, the sampled loop will slowly fade out... eventually to no sound at all. This cant be normal for this device?/ What is there to do about this?

I couldn't figure out why and gave up. Is there a way of doing this? I need to record a rythym track using different reverb effects that I want to loop. Without using any on board effects or sounds. Anyyone's help with this would be appreciated.

Hi, Could the JM4 be connected in an effects loop.

I also have a HD500 and JTV which means i can't put the JM4 directly in front of the guitar when using a VDI cable.

The ideal would be to have the ability to have a drum track running then record a rhythm over the top and then change patches on the HD500 and be able to play lead without the patch change effecting the sound of the rhythm part.

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried but to no avail. I have asked in the POD HD forum and got no response.

There are so many inputs and outputs on the back of a HD500 that there must be some way of configuring it.

My JM4 suddenly stopped working. When I hit the record foot switch nothing happens. So I decided to try to update the firmware before trying to replace the foot witch. Formatted the 2gb SD card with my PC (FAT) then formatted the SD card in the JM4. Selected "save all recordings to SD card".

It now reads "Line 6" for the SD card name when inserted into the PC, but no data is found.

What am I missing here? Also, where can I find a foot switch for this unit?

Hi there,

I watched several videos on YouTube that featured the Line6 JM4 Looper and I have a good feeling about this looper because it fits pretty much to my ideas of practicing and hopefully recording stuff :-)

I have some questions:

1. nowadays you'll normally get 16 or 32 GB SD-cards for a "normal" price. 2 GB is pretty much outdated and therefore expensive - is there an upgrade available to the JM4 hardware/bios so i could use any SD-card bigger than 2 GB?

2. I am a guitar player in a metal band. I'd like to record "songs" with the JM4 and save them as WAV files to my computer and than share the songs with my band via Dropbox:
=> Is it possible to save my recordings along with the drums-samples that are stored on the JM4? Or does it only save MY recordings/loops (means: everything i record WITHOUT drums)?

3. I want to record loop 1 = rythm guitar, loop 2 = BASS guitar, loop 3 = solo guitar und save all INCLUDING the JM4-owned drums to a WAV file that i can submit via USB to my PC (Win7 or Mac) ?

4. Can I change the instrument in between while recording the loops? That means changings the cable from guitar to bass-guitar..?

5. I read the JM4 has 24 minutes to record loops - is it enough to record guitar 1, guitar 2 solo and bass guitar?

6. Are the knobs are all really (still) made of plastic??? Or are they upgraded in between / made of metal (which would be nice for use outside the living-room ;-) ?

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Hi, it is getting increasingly difficult to source 2GB SD cards, as they are technically obsolete, having been replaced by SDHC cards of higher (much higher!) capacities. As the JM4 is still a current product from Line6 (and rightly so, as it's one of the best loopers out there - particularly for the price and meets a strong market need) will line6 update the JM4 with support for larger SDHC cards in a future (near future!) software update?

Hi,

I have a JM4 which has been working just fine, but last week I noticed when I turned it on the volume was reduced considerably. I would say around 70% less.

I just assumed as the guitar or amp volume had been adjusted, or the master volume on the JM4, but no they were all OK. The master volume on the JM4 was around 15% (as standard) and the unit was loud. It now needs to be around 60-70% mark to get the same volume but it brings with it a large amount of unwanted noise.

I did not mess with the unit or change any settings etc, just turned it off. Turned it back on 2-3 hours later and noticed this instantly.

I have searched Google about this and it leads me to this site with similar questions, but I can't find a fix or answer as they seem to have been archived?

Any help appreciated.

P.S. I have tried all the obvious cables etc. If I take the guitar lead from the JM4 straight into my amp it's like back to the future volume in comparison.
