<p>
	Hi, I have a standard Variax, and I cannot find my adapter.  Is there any way to update the firmware of the Variax without the adapter?  I have the Variax attached to my Helix.  i can run Line6 Central, and the Variax shows up, and shows that an update is available, but when I click on the Variax icon, I just get an "OK" button, and it just goes away when I press it.  Am I doing something wrong?

<p>
	Hi there.<br />
	<br />
	I just bought a standard variax. And so far, trying to conect it to my computer it's being a nightmare.
</p>

<p>
	It doesnt help to see that its been a while since last update on the software...but hopfully we can sort it out together.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I installed and reinstalled all the software a few times, and made sure to reboot windows. I also tried a diferent PC, and had exactly the same problem. Tried monkey, the line 6 updater (just shows a black screen), the workbench hd...<br />
	<br />
	Ive used the "Run as administrator" on installs and on app open.
</p>

<p>
	the usb interface shows the leds on green both sides.
</p>

<p>
	THe guitar is with the battery installed and with the jack plugged.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Its showing the drivers installed are not compatible with windows. And I dont know what else to do.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It has cost a lot of money to realise i cannot configure it and switch presets...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thanks in advance

<p>
	I currently own a Variax standard and it is pretty good but I have a couple of feature requests for the next generation if Line6 intends on making one and I hope that they do.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	These are my feature requests for the next generation of Variax...
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	1. Whammy Bar<br />
	    a)Whammy bars without a locking nut and bridge always go out of tune when using the tremolo so there is really<br />
	    no reason to produce them with the floating bridge in my opinion.<br />
	    Floyd rose or other locking tremolo systems should be used or no floating bridge at all.<br />
	    b)The variax would be the only product on the market with a locking tremolo that can change tunings<br />
	    in a reasonable time frame<br />
	2. Bass Guitar Synth Support<br />
	    Since the variax already has the capability to pitch shift there should be support for <br />
	    Bass guitar emulation to allow the musician to layer bass parts over a loop without changing instruments.<br />
	    May need an extra tuning knob.<br />
	3. Mandolin Synth Support<br />
	    Variax has the ability to pitch shift and double strings so mandolin synths should be <br />
	    easily accomplished. Would allow the musician to layer mandolin parts over a loop.<br />
	    May need an extra tuning knob also.<br />
	4. Nashville Tuning Builtin to Tuning Knob<br />
	    Guitar tuning technique where the bottom four strings are replaced with lighter gauge strings <br />
	    and tuned up an octave higher than standard tuning.<br />
	    used for layering parts in recording studio<br />
	5. Built-in Wireless Support<br />
	    Provide support for variax synth changes programmed into Helix patch settings and allow <br />
	    for wireless transmission of control messages to change the patch of the variax. Wireless<br />
	    signal transmission in the manner of the G10 should also be supported and built-in. Support<br />
	    would need to be built into the helix also. Yamaha THR30ii already has support for wireless transmission<br />
	    using the G10 built-in
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Cheers
</p>

	<span style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#212121;font-size:16px;text-align:left;">Hello Friends, I just bought this Guitar from a friend, but I tried to connect it by means of the original interface of the own brand, and try to install the usb driver of the interface first&gt; install the line 6 monkey last version&gt; after this it suggests me that I must install the hd workbench which is installed. It should be noted that I have the guitar with the full battery charge, connected with a 1/4 cable to my amplifier, and connected to the interface with a network cable with the knob on one of the guitar models but I see that the light is red this is normal ?, since the interface lights both green LEDs there is both an input and output signal to the PC. Line 6 monkey tells me that everything is already installed but I see that it does not work out that I am detecting the variax since it only shows USB INTERFACE and in the WB it does not detect it, is there anything I have omitted? Or did I do wrong ?, Attached photos of the details, I hope you can help me and thank you very much.</span>

	I bought what I guess is one of he last Variax Standards manufactured, the serial number starts with Y22. I also have other Variax models. My Variax 600, without magnetic pickups, has a nice acoustic guitar model sound as do the 300's. But with the Standard I find the acoustic sound inferior, almost sounds like the magnetic pickups are blending into the acoustic piezo sound. But, how do I tell if I got a lemon or if it's a systemic flaw of the Standard model? These Standards are nowhere to be found these days, obviously no longer in production. That's why I'm asking here from any other owners of the Standard. How does yours sound. It would help getting feedback from anyone who's also experienced using the previous generation of Variax models. I'm just going to send this out and later I'll try to attach the acoustic sounds of each model. Thanks!

	I recently acquired a Variax 300 and one disappointment is that the Sitar model does not allow alternate tunings. As our singer prefers to sing "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" in F, it would have been good to able to do this, since the sympathetic strings don't resonate on F. Can anyone tell me; does the Standard range allow the Sitar model to use alternate tunings?

<p>
	(Fallback is that I capo to F# and use a Digitech Drop to drop a semitone to F, or carry on using the Roland GK3/GR55 setup that doesn't sound as good).

<p>
	Hi.  I'm looking for some advice on getting a decent live sound from my Variax through my POD Go.  I'm playing Guitar 2 in a pit band in a couple of months for a performance of Bonnie &amp; Clyde.  Most of the sounds are acoustic guitar, Dobro slide parts, Banjo, electric and I've managed to get a half-decent mandolin sound by fiddling around on the workbench HD.  My problem is that I can't seem to get a  convincing sound through my POD Go for the acoustic instruments.  For the show I will be going from the POD Go directly into the PA. Has anybody got any advice, please?

<p>
	Hello
</p>

<p>
	yesterday I noticed that the magnetic bridge pickup on my Line 6 Variax Standard stopped working with sound or even noise whatsoever. I own the one that has Stratocaster pickup configuration and the selected 5th position of the selected switch gets me no sound at all. When engaged in the other positions I get sound, the fourth position obviously getting signal from the middle pickup. The modeling and tuning are working normally, thank goodness so it sounds like it might be a pickup problem or wiring with the magnetic pickups. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I bought it last December and it’s still under warranty so if worse comes to worse I’ll take it to a certified Line 6 repair shop. Kind of sounds like it’s something simple, even if the pickup is bad, I might have a new Duncan or Dimarzio put in, but that’s a story for another day. Thanks in advance everybody. <br />

	The jtv69 has the tone lock feature that allows the knobs to be assigned to control various HD500X parameters.

<p>
	In the HD500x when I make a patch that also selects the Model, it also selects the Bank that the Model resides in, so that when I use the 5-way switch, it selects the Models in the same bank that the original Model is in, ignoring the Model selector knob position on the guitar.

<p>
	As a performing musician I find that I often switch from acoustic 6 &amp; 12 string guitars, single coil and humbucker electrics and like other musicians, swapping out guitars mid-sets is not convenient most of the time. I had been aware of the Variax guitars for years but never really bothered to try one out. About a year ago I finally tried a used Variax Standard  being sold by someone who didn't know much about guitars and guitar set up and care and although I was tempted to buy,  I passed on it. Recently I decided I'd revisit the idea particularly as the James Tyler VARIAX looked to be very well made instruments but soon discovered that all these guitars have been discontinued. I can understand that Line 6 may not have had enough buyers to continue the series.
</p>

<p>
	What I now realize is that these guitars basically use a Hexaphonic pickup for each string. I imagine routing and installing a Variax electronic module inside a guitar is a challenging thing to do based on space but being able to quickly switch guitar types/tuning on the fly is very cool.
</p>

<p>
	I was wondering if LINE 6 has considered developing a foot pedal type unit (supplied with / without the necessary hexaphonic pickup) that can be used as a standalone guitar modeller and would allow anyone to use it with their own choice of guitar. Seems to me there would be a lot more space available in a box unit and switching guitar types /tunings etc. would be still quite simple for guitarist used to using foot pedals or mic stand mounted units? I for one would definitely be INTERESTED in such a unit.

<p>
	Aloha Y'All,
</p>

<p>
	I was an early adopter, and long time user of the Variax when it first came out, but haven't owned one for quite some time. For some gigs coming up, I am thinking that I want to get back into using one and I have the opportunity to pick up one. Here is the question.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Is the old Variax standard compatible with Workbench...or what version of Workbench would I need to use? Also, I am running Monterey on my Mac...is that compatible with the older Variax guitars?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Any assistance is surely appreciated.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>HI,</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Considering picking up a Variax, but haven't been able to find a good list of the software/DSP differences between the original Variax line, the JTV's and the Standard? Do they have different models? Are there differences in the Workbench support? Or is the variation all in the hardware and build quality?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Cheers</p>

	Just received a used Variax standard that I bought from ebay. it didn't come with its VDI-USB interface.
</p>

<p>
	So I used the one I had for my JTV-69 and it seems incompatible... Is it so?
</p>

<p>
	Is there a way to get my hands on these "newer" VDI adapter?
</p>

<p>
	I can use the Variax with my Helix floor, but I cannot connect it to Workbench, either through the Helix floor or the JTV VDI-USB interface.
</p>

<p>
	So I think the adapter hardware change somehow since the James Tyler Series.
</p>

<p>
	the end resukt: if I want to create/use custom models via Workbench, it is currently impossible.

	After two years working perfectly the alternate tunings are now playing a mix of standard and alternate tunings notes on each string. It is all coming through the amplifier and occurs even if I create a new custom tuning. I have tried a factory reset as described in the manual but this didn't work. Any ideas what may have gone wrong?

	I have a new Variax Standard. I have downloaded the Monkey and HD Workbench software and have tried to connect up my guitar but to no avail. Monkey says that there is no drivers/software for the guitar and having tried several other pathways to get the driver, nothing works. I saw a reference to a problem with a Microsoft issue but I'm not able to understand what needs to happen to correct the situation. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

	A problem has come up with most of the drop tuning functions.   Standard works fine.  But when I switch to 1/2 down, 1 down, etc. the top three strings (E, B, G) sound like I am playing a 12 string on them.  The lower strings are fine.   Is this a hardware or software issue?

<p>
	Is there any SW method to see the serial number? Perhaps looking at some window in a menu of Workbench.

<p>
	Is there any physical place of the guitar where is printed the serial number?

<p>
	Hi, got my first variax standard yesterday and blown away with the models. Not so with the Alt tuning which does not play isolated Alt tuning notes but a blend of original and Alt note/s. I’ve tried thru a helix lt and direct to amp (quilter tone block frfr) and on daw monitoring and it’s the same. However the recorded sound in the last instance was just the Alt  notes. What’s going on?
</p>

<p>
	I ran monkey and can see, and have updated workbench and the supplied vdi-usb interface but monkey does not see the guitar as a device so no info on firmware or opportunity to flash etc. However, Workbench does download and update the presets to the variax and I have set custom presets with my 1/2step down setups but the same effect. The model/mags balance is set to 100% model for sure in all these examples. <br />
	the only oddity I recall when unpacking was the model select knob fell off and had to be pushed back on but seems to do its job. Any advice please as I don’t want to give up on it just yet as I had high hopes.

	Hi all
</p>

<p>
	I'm suddenly facing an issue with the Variax Standard. I've plugged it in via standard input jack. I don't have a POD so I can't test the VDI USB interface. <br />
	What happened was after charging the battery, I inserted it, and it shows 4 LED indicating full charge. But the moment I plugged in a standard jack, and try to turn on the modelling mode,
</p>

<p>
	it doesn't light up. Modelling modes doesn't work.  The normal Single Coils works. <br />

<p>
	Have enjoyed my Variax as a nice complement to my recording efforts. A few months ago (the guitar is under a year old), it suddenly stopped sustaining notes. It also sometimes doesn't make a sound if I play too lightly. It will essentially hold a note for a couple of seconds then cold stop. I have no idea what's going on. I've tried changing batteries, tried all presets, etc., nothing seems to be allowing me a sustained note. On some settings the sound will last slightly longer than others, but that's basically it. Never had this problem the first few months that I owned this thing. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

<p>
	I just acquired a Variax Limited Amethyst as my new backup Variax (my main is a JTV-69) and I find as with all strat style screw in trem arms that I can't stand how wobbly and loose it is.  I know on Strats they recommend using the little springs that go in the whole, but on this guitar the trem hole goes all the way through so the spring would just fall out I imagine.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I've also read tons of folks using plumber's tape but I tried that and found that as soon as I unscrewed the bar again, it was all gone, and I have to unscrew the bar to put it in my gig bag and really don't want to apply tape every time I play.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I had heard good things about the Callaham replacement blocks, but of course this one has the little circuit board on thee trem block so that seems out as well.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Any other ideas? I'm at a loss here! Luckily I don't use the trem much, but when I want to, man I HATE those screw in arms.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It seems G, D, G, B, D (Open G) tuning seems to be standard for banjos, do you all just change the string setting on Workbench to get this? When I open it now and go to the Banjo, Workbench shows the Standard tuning for guitar on the strings.

	So I recently got a Variax limited and have been using it for a few weeks now, today I go to plug it in and there’s nothing. So I check the battery and found that it wasn’t charged so I charged it, I come back and try it and still nothing. The magnetics work but the modelling doesn’t, I tried with a battery and 1/4 cable, I tried with a battery and a variax cable, and without a battery and a variax cable, still none of the modelling works, and the magnetics don’t work through the variax cable like usual, basically everything variax has stopped working. I’ve never had this happen and the instrument is still new, I don’t remember anything weird happening, as far as I remember I played it last night just fine with the modelling. What can I do to try and fix this and what can I do to try and diagnose the problem?

<p>
	Hello,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I've searched for the answer to my question but have yet to find a definite answer. Perhaps there isn't one! I am an old retired guy who has tinkered with music for over 50 years. Common sense tells me that the number of good years left is relatively small. So, while I still can, I want to treat myself to what will be to me a very expensive luxury: a Variax guitar.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Those of you who are retired and draw only a little social security payment will understand. I have to be very careful with whatever I buy, and a Variax is a stretch...but I really need some smiles in my life. From what I've read, the James Tyler models may be what I'm looking for. However, I have seen models listed on the Line6 website that I can't find available to buy online, such as their rockabilly model.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I hope some of you kind folks will let me know about the maximum bells and whistles and any other advice about buying a Variax...or not buying one! Thanks!!
</p>

<p>
	Hi,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	since it is no longer possible to buy a power supply cable kit for the Variax standard I was wondering about other options other than the battery.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	My FBV3 pedal is powered via RJ45 cable from the Spider V. So I tried to plug the Variax into the Spider V instead with this RJ45 cable and it worked.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Can this damage the guitar? Ie too much or too little power supplied to the guitar?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Assuming this won’t damage the guitar the Second question is can I somehow plug in/power both the FBV3 and Variax at the same time?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Is there a RJ45 cable with one Jack on one side and two jacks on the other side or any other cable I could use?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	thanks.

	Any good suggestions? I think the neck is R10 radius.

<p>Hi guys, thinking I'd like to change the fingerboard radius of my Variax Standard from the stock 14" to 10". Fenders at 9.5" are very comfortable for me to play on, and I just bought my first PRS that feels super great with its 10" radius. I haven't found a replacement Yamaha neck that has a 10" radius so now I'm going get the appropriate tools ($350+ stewmac, ouch!) and give it a shot. I have a few questions that perhaps someone can answer for me:</p>
<p> </p>
<p>* Does Yamaha/Line 6 Variax Standard builders glue in their frets?</p>
<p>* Does a radius change affect the Variax electronics in any way? I wouldn't think so but good to ask I think.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Since I am going to have to remove the frets anyhow, thought I would put in some jumbo stainless steel since I really like playing on it and it lasts forever.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>As a footnote, I have done nut slot, refret and setup work a few times so not too fearful doing the radius, but any helpful advice is welcomed. Thanks!</p>

<p>I think we may be barking up the wrong tree, replacement neck-wise. The pocket of the Variax Standard shares the Telecaster's neck pocket dimension, not the Stratocaster's.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>At least, according to Warmoth's website, it's their Telecaster pocket dimensions.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>So I'm wondering if a Tele neck might fit the Standard. I don't have a Telecaster neck laying around. (Oddly enough, I do have a Strat replacement laying around. Go figure.) But from my measurements of the pocket/heel on the Standard, it's the same as Warmoth's Tele (which should be same as Fender's). </p>
<p> </p>
<p>Anyone have a Telecaster neck around and a mind to perform some surgery? Or some non-invasive comparisons?</p>

<p>
	Hi, I've had a <strong>Variax Standard 2 Sunburst</strong> on order since Feb. Unfortunately it looks like there are long term supply issues (see below). Everywhere I've tried in the UK is out of stock. I've been offered a Mk1 at a slightly lower price. Apparently the same spec but made in a different factory - those of you in the know, any thoughts on this?

			Sadly they have informed us that due to the major production issues/ delays they are not going to be able to fulfil our orders for the Line 6 Variax Standard 2 Sunburst I'm afraid.
		</p>

		<p>
			However we have managed to secure a number of End of Line "open box stock" (great condition, original boxes etc) Mk1 models which specs wise are the same just made in a different factory. Given the current pricing they would be £799.00 for a new order but we would happily honour the price at £699.00 if you would like to amend to one of those instead <br />
