It doesnt help to see that its been a while since last update on the software...but hopfully we can sort it out together.

I installed and reinstalled all the software a few times, and made sure to reboot windows. I also tried a diferent PC, and had exactly the same problem. Tried monkey, the line 6 updater (just shows a black screen), the workbench hd...

Ive used the "Run as administrator" on installs and on app open.

the usb interface shows the leds on green both sides.

THe guitar is with the battery installed and with the jack plugged. 

Its showing the drivers installed are not compatible with windows. And I dont know what else to do.

It has cost a lot of money to realise i cannot configure it and switch presets...

These are my feature requests for the next generation of Variax...

1. Whammy Bar
    a)Whammy bars without a locking nut and bridge always go out of tune when using the tremolo so there is really
    no reason to produce them with the floating bridge in my opinion.
    Floyd rose or other locking tremolo systems should be used or no floating bridge at all.
    b)The variax would be the only product on the market with a locking tremolo that can change tunings
    in a reasonable time frame
2. Bass Guitar Synth Support
    Since the variax already has the capability to pitch shift there should be support for 
    Bass guitar emulation to allow the musician to layer bass parts over a loop without changing instruments.
    May need an extra tuning knob.
3. Mandolin Synth Support
    Variax has the ability to pitch shift and double strings so mandolin synths should be 
    easily accomplished. Would allow the musician to layer mandolin parts over a loop.
    May need an extra tuning knob also.
4. Nashville Tuning Builtin to Tuning Knob
    Guitar tuning technique where the bottom four strings are replaced with lighter gauge strings 
    and tuned up an octave higher than standard tuning.
    used for layering parts in recording studio
5. Built-in Wireless Support
    Provide support for variax synth changes programmed into Helix patch settings and allow 
    for wireless transmission of control messages to change the patch of the variax. Wireless
    signal transmission in the manner of the G10 should also be supported and built-in. Support
    would need to be built into the helix also. Yamaha THR30ii already has support for wireless transmission
    using the G10 built-in

Hello Friends, I just bought this Guitar from a friend, but I tried to connect it by means of the original interface of the own brand, and try to install the usb driver of the interface first> install the line 6 monkey last version> after this it suggests me that I must install the hd workbench which is installed. It should be noted that I have the guitar with the full battery charge, connected with a 1/4 cable to my amplifier, and connected to the interface with a network cable with the knob on one of the guitar models but I see that the light is red this is normal ?, since the interface lights both green LEDs there is both an input and output signal to the PC. Line 6 monkey tells me that everything is already installed but I see that it does not work out that I am detecting the variax since it only shows USB INTERFACE and in the WB it does not detect it, is there anything I have omitted? Or did I do wrong ?, Attached photos of the details, I hope you can help me and thank you very much.

(Fallback is that I capo to F# and use a Digitech Drop to drop a semitone to F, or carry on using the Roland GK3/GR55 setup that doesn't sound as good).

yesterday I noticed that the magnetic bridge pickup on my Line 6 Variax Standard stopped working with sound or even noise whatsoever. I own the one that has Stratocaster pickup configuration and the selected 5th position of the selected switch gets me no sound at all. When engaged in the other positions I get sound, the fourth position obviously getting signal from the middle pickup. The modeling and tuning are working normally, thank goodness so it sounds like it might be a pickup problem or wiring with the magnetic pickups. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I bought it last December and it’s still under warranty so if worse comes to worse I’ll take it to a certified Line 6 repair shop. Kind of sounds like it’s something simple, even if the pickup is bad, I might have a new Duncan or Dimarzio put in, but that’s a story for another day. Thanks in advance everybody.

The jtv69 has the tone lock feature that allows the knobs to be assigned to control various HD500X parameters.

In the HD500x when I make a patch that also selects the Model, it also selects the Bank that the Model resides in, so that when I use the 5-way switch, it selects the Models in the same bank that the original Model is in, ignoring the Model selector knob position on the guitar.

So.....Does the Variax Standard (yamaha) have the same tone-lock capabilities with the HD500x as the JTV 69?

What I now realize is that these guitars basically use a Hexaphonic pickup for each string. I imagine routing and installing a Variax electronic module inside a guitar is a challenging thing to do based on space but being able to quickly switch guitar types/tuning on the fly is very cool. 

I was wondering if LINE 6 has considered developing a foot pedal type unit (supplied with / without the necessary hexaphonic pickup) that can be used as a standalone guitar modeller and would allow anyone to use it with their own choice of guitar. Seems to me there would be a lot more space available in a box unit and switching guitar types /tunings etc. would be still quite simple for guitarist used to using foot pedals or mic stand mounted units? I for one would definitely be INTERESTED in such a unit.

I kind of notice that, apart from the Shuriken, all the other models seems out of stock.

I was wondering if it is an indication that new models will be happening in a not so far futur or if the entire line of guitar will be discontinued.

The later would be a shame...

I can't seems to find anything about this on the web, and aside from this forum, I don't know where to post my question so someone from Line 6 could answer it.

I had no problem to install it on my JTV-69, but on the standard, it seems there is not enough room and the strings cling onto it: the higher strings only.

I was an early adopter, and long time user of the Variax when it first came out, but haven't owned one for quite some time. For some gigs coming up, I am thinking that I want to get back into using one and I have the opportunity to pick up one. Here is the question.

Is the old Variax standard compatible with Workbench...or what version of Workbench would I need to use? Also, I am running Monterey on my Mac...is that compatible with the older Variax guitars?

Any assistance is surely appreciated.

Considering picking up a Variax, but haven't been able to find a good list of the software/DSP differences between the original Variax line, the JTV's and the Standard? Do they have different models? Are there differences in the Workbench support? Or is the variation all in the hardware and build quality?

Is there a way to get my hands on these "newer" VDI adapter?

I can use the Variax with my Helix floor, but I cannot connect it to Workbench, either through the Helix floor or the JTV VDI-USB interface.

So I think the adapter hardware change somehow since the James Tyler Series.

the end resukt: if I want to create/use custom models via Workbench, it is currently impossible.

I have bought a used Onyx Limited Edition, but I have got no papers.

Is there any SW method to see the serial number? Perhaps looking at some window in a menu of Workbench.

Is there any physical place of the guitar where is printed the serial number?

I ran monkey and can see, and have updated workbench and the supplied vdi-usb interface but monkey does not see the guitar as a device so no info on firmware or opportunity to flash etc. However, Workbench does download and update the presets to the variax and I have set custom presets with my 1/2step down setups but the same effect. The model/mags balance is set to 100% model for sure in all these examples. 
the only oddity I recall when unpacking was the model select knob fell off and had to be pushed back on but seems to do its job. Any advice please as I don’t want to give up on it just yet as I had high hopes.

I'm suddenly facing an issue with the Variax Standard. I've plugged it in via standard input jack. I don't have a POD so I can't test the VDI USB interface. 
What happened was after charging the battery, I inserted it, and it shows 4 LED indicating full charge. But the moment I plugged in a standard jack, and try to turn on the modelling mode,

it doesn't light up. Modelling modes doesn't work.  The normal Single Coils works.

I've also read tons of folks using plumber's tape but I tried that and found that as soon as I unscrewed the bar again, it was all gone, and I have to unscrew the bar to put it in my gig bag and really don't want to apply tape every time I play. 

I had heard good things about the Callaham replacement blocks, but of course this one has the little circuit board on thee trem block so that seems out as well.

Any other ideas? I'm at a loss here! Luckily I don't use the trem much, but when I want to, man I HATE those screw in arms.

It seems G, D, G, B, D (Open G) tuning seems to be standard for banjos, do you all just change the string setting on Workbench to get this? When I open it now and go to the Banjo, Workbench shows the Standard tuning for guitar on the strings. 

Any input would be appreciated!

I have a nice standard and am wondering how mnay trem springs are best to have in it. I don't dive bomb, juts stuff like Wicked Game etc.

I've searched for the answer to my question but have yet to find a definite answer. Perhaps there isn't one! I am an old retired guy who has tinkered with music for over 50 years. Common sense tells me that the number of good years left is relatively small. So, while I still can, I want to treat myself to what will be to me a very expensive luxury: a Variax guitar. 

Those of you who are retired and draw only a little social security payment will understand. I have to be very careful with whatever I buy, and a Variax is a stretch...but I really need some smiles in my life. From what I've read, the James Tyler models may be what I'm looking for. However, I have seen models listed on the Line6 website that I can't find available to buy online, such as their rockabilly model. 

I hope some of you kind folks will let me know about the maximum bells and whistles and any other advice about buying a Variax...or not buying one! Thanks!! 

since it is no longer possible to buy a power supply cable kit for the Variax standard I was wondering about other options other than the battery.

My FBV3 pedal is powered via RJ45 cable from the Spider V. So I tried to plug the Variax into the Spider V instead with this RJ45 cable and it worked.

Can this damage the guitar? Ie too much or too little power supplied to the guitar?

Assuming this won’t damage the guitar the Second question is can I somehow plug in/power both the FBV3 and Variax at the same time?

Is there a RJ45 cable with one Jack on one side and two jacks on the other side or any other cable I could use?

I have been on the variax/downloads  part of the website looking for the Workbench HD download for MAC.

All site says is there is nothing available.

I have a Variax Standard and the USB box and cables etc.

I seem to remember when I bought the guitar that the Workbench HD software is kept somewhere unusual on the site, seem to have this in my mind for some reason.

Anyway, anybody know where it is kept?

On another point, if someone buys a used Variax Standard.......... can they download the Workbench HD software too or is there a licence transfer needed or some such?

* Does Yamaha/Line 6 Variax Standard builders glue in their frets?

* Does a radius change affect the Variax electronics in any way? I wouldn't think so but good to ask I think.

Since I am going to have to remove the frets anyhow, thought I would put in some jumbo stainless steel since I really like playing on it and it lasts forever.

As a footnote, I have done nut slot, refret and setup work a few times so not too fearful doing the radius, but any helpful advice is welcomed. Thanks!

At least, according to Warmoth's website, it's their Telecaster pocket dimensions.

So I'm wondering if a Tele neck might fit the Standard. I don't have a Telecaster neck laying around. (Oddly enough, I do have a Strat replacement laying around. Go figure.) But from my measurements of the pocket/heel on the Standard, it's the same as Warmoth's Tele (which should be same as Fender's). 

Anyone have a Telecaster neck around and a mind to perform some surgery? Or some non-invasive comparisons?

I have a issue with Ghost Notes In Alternate Tunings on my Variax Standard bought  desember 2016,

some tunings low E. A, D and E, sounds awful.

Reinstalled Workbench HD 2.12 and I tried reflashing the guitar, it's the same.

in standard tunning no problem.

is there anybody who's got this issue?, what can i do?
