HX Stomp and MIDI - some insights

Glad its working out for you. I currently use the HX Effects, but ordered a Stomp to try out because of the smaller footprint. After using it for a week I returned it — it didn't have the robust MIDI capabilities of the HX Effects. If Line 6 adds the missing MIDI features I'll pick one up again, because I really liked the rest of the package.
  3. Another helpful video about the Line 6 HX Stomp looper.

Helix Native - nasty sound artefacts at 44.1KHz

I normally record at 44.1 and have had no such issue (Logic Pro X).

    VDI wireless?

I was thinking that if a G10 (inc receiver) can be purchased for £109 retail then 3 x G10 can be bought for £327 (including 20% VAT) https://www.andertons.co.uk/line-6-relay-g10-digital-wireless-guitar-system-grelayg10 There would be a bit more complexity and I would expect a base more in line with G10s but it should be possible to get something to retail closer to £400 given that the above includes 3x distribution and retail markup. The price of wireless hardware has come down a lot which is why we see digital units such as the Boss WL-20, X-Vive and Sennheiser XS in this price range

    Snapshots vs. in-block parameter settings

As noted above, there's a limit of 64 controllers per preset, and that includes snapshot controllers. Going much beyond that would negatively impact the switching time between presets from what I understand. I mean, realistically, how many parameters are you changing from one snapshot to another? I don't know if I've even hit double digits.

Blind test of clean tones Helix Vs Kemper

Perhaps silent but surely present/lurking. At this level amp modeling there’s always gonna be preferences swinging all over player/user perspectives. Helix is great. Same Kemper, Fractal - at this level performance compacted A/V probably won’t determine much. But when it stimulates healthy participation and discussion - well that’s kinda the point of “tribal” internet cultures…

    Powercab considerations and thoughts

There's an important distinction to make here! When you are using the speaker emulation modes in the Powercab, you are not using a modelled cabinet - you are using what is, in effect, a "real" 1x12 cabinet, albeit a powered one! Where the modelling comes in is in the emulation of the speaker within that real cabinet. So, the idea is that if you are using Powercab with say the Vintage 30 speaker model, all things being equal you should get the same sound and feel as if you were using a neutral power amp going into a 1x12 cabinet containing a real Vintage 30. When you take the XLR out from the Powercab+, what you should then get is the sound of that 1x12 cabinet/speaker combination as if it were mic'd up with whatever mic/parameters you set on the Powercab+.

    Dime Bag Squeal

Brand New to the Forum, I recently purchased the 240HC. I got the G10 transmitter as well and I'm really enjoying everything about the experience. I play a Jackson with a Floyd Rose tremolo. I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with tips on getting that "Dime Bag Squeal". I play pretty aggressively, with plenty of bends and biting harmonics, but I've never have achieved Dime Bag/Eddie Van Halen ear piercing squeal. I believe I could die a happy camper if I could for once get that sound that has alluded me for so long. Thanks for your time, randy3666

    Broken preset joystick

Yeah I have been using HX edit to change setlists, but dont want to have to have my Mac with me all the time. I have contacted Line 6 and they are working on a solution. Hopefully they figure out something good.

    Tranfer Firehawk presets to Helix

I only had 4-5 Firehawk presets I loved. I took phone screen shots and/or wrote down parameters into an excel sheet. It was well worth the effort when recreating them in Helix....or trying to.... no Jubilee :(

Blind test of clean tones Helix Vs Kemper

It's just as he said... they don't have to convert the "Faith Militant" lol... and with the exception of the occasional "this thing sucks because I don't know what I'm doing" rant, that's all there is over here. No point in burning calories if there's no payoff.

It's that a question? And if so, what exactly are you asking?

HX Stomp and MIDI - some insights

Hi Phil, been a while! Yes, I see that as part of the bigger picture now. I just assumed it would do so as my M9 does it. Been out of the loop for a while and was originally shooting for the HX Effects which does all of what I was looking for. I was hooked by the smaller footprint of the Stomp as I am trying to keep it light for stage travel, oh well. For the record, I really love this little box!

    Snapshots vs. in-block parameter settings

No, there's a limit. You can control up to 64 individual parameters with snapshots.

Guitar input pad - does you or doesn't you?

Earlier in this thread I posted that rather than use the pad... I would just insert a GAIN control in the first block and attenuate that as needed for higher gain guitars.... BUT my thought process has now changed. According to DI (Digital Igloo) the INPUT PAD is an analog pad applied prior to the A/D conversion so I now keep it on. At the very least... it's a safety net in case you swap out for a particularly hot instrument... but I also know that the digital realm likes to have headroom, there is NO HARM in coming in a little softer and compensating later. I still keep a GAIN control in the first block... but now I use it to "increase" the level for lower output guitars rather than attenuate for higher output guitars.

Helix/DT amp integration on the way!

Thank you for trying to show me the way - but this is way too complicated for me. Where in a helix patch do you set the dt to a model + defaults. and what commands to you use?

    high end grainy distortion

Sorry about that... I didn't realize you were on the Stomp... I don't think the stomp has an input pad... unless I am mistaken. I wouldn't worry about it... I just mentioned it as a "last ditch effort" if everything else failed, but it appears some of the other options might be helping the problem. Don't be afraid to deviate from the defaults choices for mics and positions. Most people don't realize how powerful the mic choice and position are to shaping your tone. A studio engineer spends a stupid amount of time choosing mics and positions.... they want to "get that right" before touching an EQ on the console. Here is a great video on how effective this is within the Helix...

    Snapshots vs. in-block parameter settings

L6 uses ideascale (https://line6.ideascale.com/) for feature requests and you are free to start one there if you want. This is considered a user forum (users helping users) so they don't poke their heads in here very often. IIRC there is a limit to how many controllers can be assigned per preset on the Helix.... I think that limit is 64 but I could be wrong about that. .... and.... if my understanding is correct, a "snapshot assignment" is considered a controller... If that is true, it wouldn't take long to reach the limit if everything was automatically assigned to a snapshot and you would have to start picking and choosing the assignments at some point anyway.

    Snapshots vs. in-block parameter settings

Thanks! That's exactly what I was asking about, maybe I didn't make it clear :) I realize the DSP limitations play a role here, but aren't we able to get every parameter of every block in a given patch and put it in the "brackets" mode right now? I didn't try to create a patch that puts full load on DSP and do that but my guess is that I wouldn't be stopped. Anyway, thanks for answering. Maybe the L6 devs will see this thread and consider implementing such feature in an upcoming FW update.

    Snapshots vs. in-block parameter settings

I'm not really clear on what you're asking, but if you're saying that instead of pushing in the knob and turning it in order to get the brackets that tie it to the snapshot, that ANY time you change a setting it's tied to the snapshot unless you explicitly tell it not to..then the answer is no. I would think that type of behavior would likely be pretty inefficient since the snapshot only has to keep track of the specific parameter you've selected, whereas the other way around it would have to keep track of every parameter unless you specified otherwise. And given the lion's share of the parameters it's tracking would never get changed it seems quite wasteful to me in terms of memory.
  24. Is there a way to change the default behavior of settings in a block when the snapshots are changed? What I'd like to see is the settings to be snapshot-specific without having to indicate that explicitly. As in - all settings are snapshot-specific, except those you mark as the "global" ones. Basically a behavior reverse to the one that is the default. Is there any way to do that?

    high end grainy distortion

getting better results with using hi cut on impulse response or backing off the mic abit on the factory cab. I can't find the input pad on the global settings though... it has input level and you can set to inst or line (I am on the stomp hx) but no pad?

StageSource L2m cutting off and on

I found this post after having a similar problem with an L2m and wondered if the replaced unit was now proving reliable. I have had an L2t since they first came out and decided to add an L2m bought used but in excellent condition. It has this fault however and I have checked the cables are all fine.

Guitar input pad - does you or doesn't you?

I don't use the guitar input pad, but I may start doing so. I can easily clip the input of my audio interface. My guitars have high output pickups and I play quite hard with .50mm picks.
