    CC Assign Snapshot Issue

That works! Unfortunately, it's a very limited workaround, as it limits the number of MIDI Controllers you can use to the number of unused Expression Pedals available. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.... Thanks phil!

Yep... Sure thing. That's probably the most common way it's used, really.

Helix LT - flabby broken up distortion tones. Help!

gunpointmetal, gunxsword, bbd_123, Thanks, I've been doing some more exploring. I think with the global guitar pad on and copying and noodling with some presets that sound okay I'll get there. I downloaded some quite high gain presets from the line6 web site and some actually sound pretty good on the strat. So, there is a formula in there somewhere that can have things sounds good - I just have to do the forensics and work backwards to learn what those presets do. Part of my education on modelling I guess. If I find the magic sauce I'll post back here. :-) Thanks again.

Capture your own IRs? What are you using?

Thats unless you are doing "merged" profiles. In this case the Amp profile is separated from the Cab (so you can swap them as desired). ; )
  8. I have the same thing going on. I opened a Support Ticket on Thursday...still waiting for a solution.

Capture your own IRs? What are you using?

I appreciate all the comments. I've been through hundreds of existing IRs, I have pro mics and pre amps, I record guitar for a living (for better or worse :). I have found a few available ones that come close to what I want. Just wanting to capture what I actually use and port it over to Helix or other devices. I think the processes described above will work for me, as soon as I have time to chase it down. Again, thanks. I know more now than I did when I posted.

    CC Assign Snapshot Issue

Once you assign a parameter to any controller, the value that it's set to when the snapshot is saved will be recalled with the snapshot. This is true for all controllers. The exceptions are the EXP1, 2 and 3 controllers. If you have the EXP# Position parameter set to Global or Per Preset, than the actual position of the pedal will dictate the value of the parameter. The challenge with this particular issue has to do with the very nature of MIDI itself. The MIDI controller isn't sending a steady stream of data. It only sends data when it changes position. So the Helix doesn't have a way to track a position of an external knob or pedal. It can only know the value of the CC when it receives it. The one workaround maybe to assign the Level parameter to EXP3 (if you're not actually using EXP3 for anything else) and assign the associated CC (CC#3) to the MIDI controller knob/fader you want to use. If you do that and set the EXP3 Position parameter to Global or Per Preset, the saved value may be overridden, but I'm not completely sure about that.

Spider Valve Valve HD 100 MKII

So bought a Spider Valve HD 100 MKII and was kind of confused, I for some reason was under the impression it had the same patches as the Spider Valve HD100. They patches are totally different, there aren't any of the artists settings at all or any good metal settings. Looks like I'll be tinkering with it lol...anybody have any good settings they would like to share??

Capture your own IRs? What are you using?

And fwiw, capturing IRs from real speakers isn't exactly a trivial process. Ok, well, it even kind of is, in case you got the right hardware - which includes a good mic or a few (including the knowledge to place them), a room to set things up and a neutral power amp to play back the sine sweep. Capturing and deconvolving isn't too tough, there's free tools and explanations around, in case you own Logic, Apples Impulse Response utility comes with it - so, the procedure is easy, but what most people lack of is decent mics, rooms and possibly even a decent neutral poweramp. Anyhow, IMO there's more than enough IRs around already and with a little knowledge about the procedure, you'll be able to modify and mix them to suit your needs.

Capture your own IRs? What are you using?

You could probably try to mix and match your own IRs out of existing ones. It's pretty easy to do. In case you're interested, I'll explain the procedure.

Helix LT- is exp. pedal still an issue?

And even if the above weren't true, you can never tell how long a unit has sat in a retailer's inventory before it makes it's way to your living room. The truth is a handful of those the defective units might still be getting sold 3 years from now... that's why they've extended the warranty on this particular issue forever. Regardless, if you want one, buy one... if you let the possibility of getting a bum unit affect your decision, you'll never buy anything. Every product on earth has it's batch of lemons.

No "Mode" Option - Stuck in Snapshot

I was just about to post that as it happened to me before I knew about that function. Switched the up/down buttons to Snapshot up/down after that (I will never switch presets live), so I will at least not accidentally leave the patch.

No "Mode" Option - Stuck in Snapshot

Are you sure you're not accidentally entering Snapshot Mode by hitting both Bank Up and Down switches at the same time?

Helix LT- is exp. pedal still an issue?

The issue with the LT expression pedal actually didn't have anything to do with the pedal itself. It had to do with some defective housings that were incorrectly stamped by a couple of metal fabrication machines at the plant. Those pieces were thrown in with all the housings created by other machines, and this happens before the units are given a serial number. If you can imagine, they just have big bin of housing that they pick from as they're making the unit. Now it's been long enough that all of those housing should be out of the system, but there are still reports of broken pedals that come trickling in. It has definitely slowed down. Regardless of all of that, Line 6 has issued a no questions asked, lifetime replacement warranty for any LT that has this issue. So even you bought it secondhand and the standard warranty is expired, Line 6 will still give you a free replacement. So you shouldn't worry about it.

Capture your own IRs? What are you using?

Cool, I'll check this video out. The Kemper is overkill for my purposes at the moment. I've also found Logic Pro X has a built-in convolution plug-in. I'm still on DP 9. I have hundreds of 3rd party IRs but I'm still looking for some that don't have excess highs compared to my mic'd rigs. LP filter helps, but not always. When I captured some with my Axe FX II, a few turned out good, but it's a proprietary format, only good in that box.

Helix strobe tuner accuracy in cents

Well, be sure to start by intonating your bridge as near to perfectly as you can, or it's all a waste of time :-)

All 8 Outputs With Helix Floor

Hi all, I am considering buying a Helix for performing live. I am trying to travel light, so I would like to use it as an audio interface. Here is what I hope to achieve. I will be using mainstage. I will have a couple of stereo playback signals, a mono click signal, a mono vocal signal, and a stereo effects signal. I would like all of those signals (8 in total) to be routed to 8 line outs, and from there they will be patched to FOH. My main guitar signal will just come out of the main output of the Helix to the FOH. When I was briefly playing around with my friend’s Helix (to see how it operates as an audio interface in Logic), I could see that I could route whatever I wanted to 8 outputs, but then when I tried to connect (what I thought to be) the physical outputs to a mixer, there was no generated signal. So my question is this - is it possible to have 8 discreet outputs, as well as the main (mono or stereo) output (for what I am doing live on the guitar). Many thanks! David

Helix strobe tuner accuracy in cents

well I’ll still be getting a helix in the future but for now I went with a Unitune clip (strobe is listed at +-.02 cents accuracy) you’re all probably right about the audible range and accuracy able to be displayed with current consumer based tech. I look forward to checking out the accuracy of the tuner myself soon!

    CC Assign Snapshot Issue

See, that's exactly my observation (my snapshot preferences are set to "discard", though, but that shouldn't matter), even if I haven't elaborated on it as carefully as you so far. And as you say (which is my observation, too): Control a parameter straight on the Helix and everything's fine and dandy, parameters can be controlled patchwide (unless you explicetely set the parameter to be controlled by snapshots). Use a CC instead and things just don't work anymore. It's like "once there's white brackets around a parameter, snapshots will rule the world!" - regardless whether the brackets are a result of some CC mapping. This might in fact not exactly be a bug, but maybe just something nobody thought of. Out of the Helix folks I know, exactly nobody's using a MIDI controller and CCs for these kinda things, so the strange things going along with it might as well have slipped the attention of the testing team because it's a setup only nerds like me would use.

    CC Assign Snapshot Issue

Check this out! In Global Settings - PREFERENCES I have Snapshot Edits set to RECALL. Using the APCmini controller connected via USB thru my studio laptop to my Helix Floor to control levels with a slider, and without manually performing a SAVE at any point: In Snapshot 1, using the Slider on the APCmini, I set LEVEL on the Output Block to something other than the default of zero, say, -10.0. Go to Snapshot 2, retains that setting. Go to Snapshot 3 reverts to zero. Snapshot 1 is still -10.0, as is Snapshot 2. If I go from SS1 or SS2 to SS4, it's still -10.0. If I go from SS3 (0.0) to SS4, it's 0.0. This applies to EVERY SS past SS3. If I go from SS1 or SS2 (both -10.0) to SS3, it reverts to zero, and going from SS3 to any SS > SS3 it stays at zero. If I go from SS1 or SS2 to any SS > SS3, the SS retains the SS1/2 value! I then tried this using my FCB1010 with my HX Stomp in my office. Of course the Stomp has only three Snapshots, but I got the same results vis a vis SS3. Now THAT'S a BUG! Oh, yeah, and I did this both with the HX Editor AND manually on the devices. Same result, so it's NOT an HX Edit problem. I'm going to post this on the Bug Thread. I'm not sure if L6 ever responds there, but now TWO of us know about it, so if I turn up dead.......:-) EDIT: The more I play with this, the more inconsistent the results. Maybe I'm just failing to grok the convoluted logic involved. Will now have breakfast and report back later after further experiments!
  25. Hello, I am in a worship band ...and we are going in-ears so my vox AC 15 isnt gonna cut it...So i was thinking of getting the Helix LT (as the bigger Helix is to expensive) Question...Ive read about alot of issues with the expression pedal breaking on the LT...have they resolved that yet? or is it still a problem???? Thanks in advanced ! DD
  26. Hello, I'm (sometimes) running into issues when copying presets from one setlist to another. It is unclear what triggers this ... I'll try to reproduce what happened couple of minutes ago: - I created a tone in a "sketch" setlist - Once I was happy with the tome I tried to copy it to another setlist - The preset would not not copy, I got an error message (not fully sure anymore what it said) and then the Helix freezes. Tried it a couple of times with the same result. - When I switch the Helix off and on again the device works fine, but now I see some presets with no name or only a few letters. See the attached screenshot. - Helix and HX edit are both 2.82. I have had the exact same issue last week; I then did a reset (holding FS 8 + 9 when starting up the Helix) after which it seemed to work fine ..... until earlier this evening . Anyone has seen the same? What could be the cause? What else can/ do I need to do to get rid of this very annoying problem? Thanks !! Helix.tiff

Capture your own IRs? What are you using?

Tools to make an IR? A method to record/export the two signals that need to be compared. Any DAW can do this, and if you don't own a DAW most have a FREE version that are limited, but more than enough to handle the job. A method to compare those two files and create the IR. Voxengo Deconvolver in DEMO mode is more than capable of this task. Here is a basic demo of the process....
