No, the Engl Z12 can only send MIDI PC (program change) messages - you can use it switch select presets. It can't send CC messages which are required to do the stuff you asked for.

Had mine for about 9 months and I've basically now settled on a single patch for guitar, with 4 snapshot variations within it. To my mind, the appeal of the Pod Go (and probably all modellers) is that it's an all-under-one-roof solution that plumbs straight in the PA, with no humping heavy gear around up and down flights of stairs. Sound guys love it. It's quick, efficient and sounds more than good enough. It really comes into its own when playing bass as there's nothing more disruptive to a good onstage sound than a thundering great bass rig pounding away. So yeah - for me the depth of the menu is great, but once you've found your sound, lock it in and forget about it :-)

Hi everyone, the Engl Z12 midi controller has 10 switches, which I would like to use to switch between snapshots, turn blocks (e.g. effects) on/off... Has anybody here used this controller (or another Engl midi footcontroller) with the HX Stomp ?! Thanks Vincent

Amp effects loops are notoriously variable. Some pre-amps output a reasonable level to their power amps, and other pre-amps have a very high output, which their power amps expect as an input for them to work effectively. This is particularly so with amps that have cascading gain stages. Some are known to pump out 30 volts from pre-amps, and this will be what they output from their Send. Obviously, their power amps are expecting a similar level to their Return, to match what they would get direct from the pre-amp without the effects loop, but no digital modeller is going to deliver that sort of level. If you have one of these amps, all you can do is to max out everything short of digital clipping as advised by Schmalle. You could try using an "always on" conventional boost pedal between the HX Stomp output and the amp Return.

Using FS4: You can use a GAIN Block at the end of the signal chain. If you're using a compressor at the end ala Jason Sadites you can use its level. An EQ at the end use its level. A cab at the end use its level. You get the idea.

I'm experimenting with hooking my Stomp up to a Midi Maestro. I've dedicated one page on the Maestro to three functions of the Stomp Looper (top row) and then assigning three Snapshots of the Presets to the bottom three buttons. I've got a Mission Engineering dual switch set as FS 4 and 5 on the Stomp. Four is a boost that's been set in the Output block of all my Presets. Five toggles between the different Modes. Problem: When I kick in the FS4 boost to solo over a loop I've set on the Maestro; the entire track gets boosted along with the solo. So the solo doesn't cut through. Any way I can get around this or am I stuck with having to set a lead Snapshot to make it work? Or a stand alone boost pedal attached to the Stomp (?).

How do I use the Catalyst as a powered speaker? I have a multi effects pedal that I would like to try using. Thanks for any help.

I never use the HPs on either unit, they're normally in different locations (office/studio) and connect to mixers to combine other audio sources. I'm pretty sure that they are known to use different HP amps and that there IS a difference.

Thank you for spending time replying then :) The issue for me is twofold - first, the LT set the expectation for what the volume level should be, which was let down by what the XL volume is. It made me wonder if there was something wrong with the unit itself, or the expected behavior of the 'little brother' unit. I was looking for other's experience with both units to confirm that. Second, since I usually have my LT set at 50% volume to my FRFR and DI to house, there was some comfort in knowing that I had quite a bit of headroom left. There are times when I might bring the volume up to maybe 65 or 70% for example. But on the stomp XL, there's not a lot of headroom left in the same situation. Thanks @rd2rk for the test, it makes me think something is not right with my XL for there to be so little difference between your floor and stomp. Do you ever plug headphones direct in to your floor and stomp? Is there a similar negligible difference in volume output there?

I tested my Helix Floor vs my HX Stomp. Identical presets - just the Whowatt+Cab at default settings. With the Input Pad on the Floor OFF and the HXS Input at Instrument Level, 1/4" Outputs of both set to LINE. Guitar connected to ABY Box via G10. 1/4" outs from each to Channels 1 and 2 of my Scarlett 18i20. All identical cables. Ableton LIVE 12 with IK TR5 db/LUFS meter on both Channels. The difference? <>1db. The Floor was <>1db louder. Until I swapped the cables 1-2/2-1. Then the HXS was 1db louder. I got identical results with the Outputs set to Instrument. IDK if it's the cables (Identical GC Live Wires) or the ABY Box (GC Live Wires), but either way, <>1db is NOT a big difference. I'd call it statistically insignificant. Beats me why you guys are getting radical differences. I suppose you could speculate that the LT/HXSXL pairing is different than the Floor/HXS pairing, but I doubt it.

Preamps in the Helix are quiet: they are turned down by 24dB because some of them are so loud in the real world that they would clip during the output DA conversion. I'd do the following: Set input, send/return and output level to Inst, max out the VOLUME knob. This way there should be unity gain, meaning a vanilla 4CM patch should have the same level as the pure (no 4CM) amp has. Verify that this is the case. Set the patch's output level to +20dB, set the fx loop block's return level to -20dB. Now the preamps are usable without struggling with their level. Hope that helps!

It could perhaps be a hardware problem in the input stage on the motherboard, for example one or more damaged capacitors that need to be replaced. Check also the mic input, if it works well it means that the problem is only on the guitar input which is equipped with an analog circuit with variable impedance (try changing the impedance value via the input setting). You can also try reinstalling the firmware and then doing a global reset (but first save your presets on the computer), I don't think it will help in this case but you never know. Sorry. I may be naive about it but not being facetious. I just don’t see the problem. A curiosity, yes. Just not something I would be inclined to spend time on. I’d just twist a VOL knob and be done with it.

C'mon now, I think you are being facetious and are aware that the question is: why are products based on the same architecture notably different in volume levels at the same (alleged! I haven't verified my settings yet) volume settings with a patch simply shared between the devices. It's not a "problem" per se, merely an odd characteristic. Could simply be an input/output setting change, or it could be because the Helix/LT is twice as POWERFUL, so it must be twice as LOUD. I dunno. I'll update with my findings when I'm home.

Recently my trusty POD HD bean has been failing on me. I have sound from the pc without any problems, but the sound from the guitar started fail. I get a crackling noise to no sound whatsoever, unless I strum really hard, seriously hard. Somedays, after a while it starts working just fine, others, works fine at first until the sound starts getting weird. No change on my presets, everything updated, tried both guitars, different cables, but the resutl is the same. Sometimes I works fine, others I get this weird problem. I've tried different presets, created new ones, but the result is the same... any ideas what could it be?

Since your IR loader replaces a mic/cab model in the XT I would treat it like you are connecting to just the cab section of an external guitar amp. Try selecting an Output setting to match that setup.

I’m wondering whether the difference in volume levels is actually a problem. First, I assume the difference is noted when both devices have the overall device volume at max, or ‘unity’. I also assume that even if that’s true, you could lower the device master volume on the louder one to equalize them. What am I missing? Do we expect every device from every manufacturer to be equally ‘loud’? Is there some industry standard I’m not aware of?

Changing Global Settings -> Ins/Outs -> Output Level from Inst to Line results in a significant boost. That might be the cause.

I have the same issue, but coming from the other direction. I've used a Stomp and a Stomp XL for the last few years, and just bought the LT to allow me to move pedals off of one board and onto another to complete three pedalboards for three different locations. Plugging the LT into my Soldano Astro was markedly louder than my Stomp or XL. I thought it was just my imagination but now I'll go dig through the global settings and compare. that really sounds like you may have the LT outputs to Line or digital and your XL outputs set to mic.

Hello guys! I got a question about the output modes of the pod xt live. My signal chain is: Guitar -> POD XT Live -> Mooer Radar (IR Loader) -> FRFR Speaker I have turned off the cab sim in the POD itself. Now I wanna get correct the output mode for my case, I read the manual but I'm kinda confused. Thanks in advance!

Just to clarify - if you used the discount to purchase Helix Native you can't sell your LT and retain your HN incense before a specific time period (90 days? 180 days? - look it up in the Helix Native FAQs.) This is for an obvious reason - people buying a Helix product, using it only to buy the discounted Helix Native product, then immediately returning the Helix device for full refund.
