    Helix Firmware Upgrade 2.8 - Blues :(

The way I see it... The last day of Spring is June 20th and any day the update comes before that is a bonus not a disappointment. IMO that is an odd thing to be "unnerved" about. They could have said nothing.... leaving you wondering if you would ever see another update ever again. Forever worried they might pull a Fractal and hide the next update inside a new hardware unit. There are a couple of features in 2.8 that I plan on using extensively.... knowing about this update in advance gave me the chance to pre-plan how I might use it differently.

    Helix Bug Reports

Hi, First thing to try is run through the Factory Reset options and see if it clears the bug. Make a back up of all your presets first then try. HX Stomp 1. All 3 Footswitches clears all presets/IRs 2. FS1+2 resets presets and IRs 3. FS 2+3 does a factory restore (globals, presets, IRs) Option 3 may be the best way to put it back to normal. If none of these work, then you should raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense.

    HX Stomp FAQ

Hi, “ttkfirst”, I wouldn’t hold my breath, waiting for a response from DI on this forum. The best thing to do to contact Eric (Klein) would be to post on TGP or the Helix group on Facebook. Line 6 staff rarely bother to post on here. As for your question, I’m not certain because I don’t own a Stomp, but I don’t think that is possible. If I am giving you the wrong information then someone on here will, no doubt correct me. If you’re using the USB for recording via a DAW you could listen to the metronome, or click from that! Regards

    Helix Firmware Upgrade 2.8 - Blues :(

I'm excited about the new features, sure, but I'm more excited that they are continuing to work on and improve this product. You could argue that some people buy it because line 6 does updates but I actually bought it for what it did at the time of purchase. So I'm fine with them announcing in advance what they are releasing in the next update... even if it's months in advance. For some it will save having to post in idea scale. As with some of the others I'm most excited about the additions to command centre. it'll get here and it'll be great...
  8. Hi there, I am new to Helix but not to multi-effect pedals. I used a Digitech 500 for 11 years, and while I notice a noticeable improvement in the effects, I am having issues with getting the tone I need to play live. I play a PRS Mark Tremonti passive guitar with a Marshall AVT 50 combo amp. I play the Marshall only on the clean channel. I am emulating a Fender twin with a metal zone distortion. I I have a few problems. I play in a hard rock band, and I need to be able to do feedback. I haven't been able to get any good feedback (just the ear splitting kind). Any tips for that? I understand that you need to crank the gain for feedback, but one of the problems I am having with my amp is that I have to crank it with the Helix. When I do that it starts to break up, and I need it as clean as possible. I understand that the amp will colour my tone, but I never had this issue with my old pedal. I have a feeling I am missing some setting. Also, do you have some general tips for going straight into a combo amp in terms of placement of amp, cabinet etc? Should I be using preamp amp and cab if I am already using an amp that colours my sound? Thanks for any help you can give!

    HX Stomp Question

Hi, If you look at the illustration and info on page 8 of the HX Stomp Owner’s Manual, Hybrid Amp/Direct Setup. This seems to be what you require if you adjust the send block to suit. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a4010c935bb66a4c0c44f/application/pdf/HX Stomp Manual - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.

    HX Stomp Question

Hello, I was wonderwing if with the HX Stomp i can get 1 signal chain with effects/amp modeling/IR impulse to go to the FOH, and a second signal with just effects/amp modeling to my power amp and cab (so without IR impulse). Thanks in advance!! Greetz Wouter

    Helix Native Problem

I am still unhappy ! Thank God I don't have to pay you a line fee. ;-) I couldn't find the option "Shutdown Settings" with deactivation of "Save Changes" on my PC. Even if I look at the Windows help and compare it with my screen, I see differences. Maybe because it was an update from WIN7 Pro or because it is German. Anyway, I found a batch file that forces Win10 to shut down completely. A restart now doesn't open the programs that were running at shutdown. I have removed the WLAN stick that I otherwise need to operate my digital mixer (Behringer XR16). Furthermore I changed the Power Settings to "highest Performance". At autostart I deactivated all additional services. Now in a hopeful mood I uninstalled Helix-Native again, deleted all additional data in the user area (program data etc), started the complete shutdown batch file and reinstalled Native. I have become a bit smarter as far as Windows is concerned, but Native called via Reaper still reports the same error. :-( Other AMP simulation VST's work fine with Reaper, so I can leave the Helix LT in the rehearsal room to practice at home. The notebook (on which Native works) is for my old eyes only short time to endure. That was not the purpose of the investment. Obviously I have to wait further until the support is able to send a helpful instruction.

    Helix Native Problem

Well, Line 6 isn't a small shop - if it really is a problem in principle, I hope for a speedy recovery.
  17. Hi everyone. I'm having an issue connecting my trusty old AxeFX standard to my PC via the Helix Rack midi ports so i can edit the axe's patches with AxeEdit. It just wont connect, At most, after trying every possible settings in the MIDI setup on the helix rack, is that axe edit will send change tempo messages but that's it, no syncing no nothing. Axe Edit works fine if i connect it directly to my 6i6 mk2 interface via midi but not through my helix rack. Helix is set on channel 1 and axe fx on channel 2. I've changed the channels all day yesterday, but still no dice. Any ideeas ?

    Tone Help

Hello, I'm using a POD HD Pro X, and i was wondering if anybody could help to create or suggest ideas to get a Lead tone similar to Mats Haugen from Circus Maximus. (primary example here:)

I know the original poster (bshaw92) just indicated that he has had his question answered, but since it got me started on a quest to learn what I could (slow night) I wanted to add this quote from Digital Igloo since it also adds more to the convo. Maybe someday someone else will ask about the stock cabs/IR question and this thread will be a nice source of info that pops up: Either way though, to me this solidifies my belief that the whole "IR" obsession is a bit of an "Emperor Has no Clothes" story. Realistically that analogy is FAR too harsh to reality - I'm not saying 3rd party IRs aren't a legitimate thing, they clearly can and often DO sound amazing, and I'm VERY grateful that the HX line lets you use them (and someday I may jump further down that hole than I already have). In fact, it's entirely rational to prefer 3rd party IRs to the stock cabs. However, when people like me prefer stock cabs it makes perfect sense. Based on how Line 6 describes them, it's more on par with me saying, "I prefer Line 6 IRs over Ownhammer Irs" than me saying, "I prefer Line 6 cab emulations over Ownhammer IRs."

Thanks for that. They use the terms static and dynamic so that answers my question. The specifics will never be answered because they won't say how. It points to the side of taking different IR shots to achieve a "dynamic" representation of the speakers and mics. Thanks.

What do you know, I managed to find a PDF of the original blog post, even if the blog no longer exists: https://l6c-acdn2.line6.net/data/6/0a020a3d43095900a82ce2652/application/pdf/helix-blog-hybrid-cabs.pdf

Here's another commentary on the original stock cabs taken from the Helix Blog that was unfortunately taken down (sadly). The remarks are from Digital Igloo, I found them quoted on the Gear Page with a link to the blog: Along with its suite of internal speaker cabinet models, Helix also allows you to load high-quality impulse responses from third parties. While this is a fantastic option to have, it’s important to note that the factory speaker cabinets in Helix offer a number of advancements over traditional static third-party impulses. We call the speaker emulations in Helix “hybrid cabs”, because they use a number of proprietary algorithms to reproduce the same frequency and dynamic accuracy typically seen in a 2048-point impulse response, but at far lower DSP usage. Not only that, a hybrid cab allows you to move the microphone from directly on the grill to up to 12 inches away (in .5 inch increments), and accurately captures the proximity effect/bass boost of the microphone in all positions while doing so. All of this detail means that the speaker cabinet reacts just like the real thing, not just sounding better but feeling better under your fingers. Due to the efficiency improvements hybrid cabs offer, it’s actually possible to run up to four speaker cabinets at once in Helix (depending on DSP load), all with different microphones and microphone positions!

Strange. Are you certain there is not a gate set somewhere?

    Helix Cabs_Mics

That's silly! Everyone knows that the connection between the 3rd Framistan and the Mystical Boomerang Conduit by way of ANY form of Fetzer Valve has yet to be definitively proven, much less modeled! The rumor that Fractal plans to release a model incorporating that technology is just that, a rumor!

I gotta be honest, my nerdy self is in to how they do this stuff. However, not from the common perspective of I have a lollipop with the stock cabs and am arguing for a better way.
