    Line 6 Updater/HX Edit doesn't See Helix.

Hi! Turn HX Edit off. If it's on, the updater won't find your helix.
  3. If the amp has a midi input then probably. If it does not have a midi input then no. What is the amp?

  5. Is it doable without using ANOTHER external box?
  6. Hello, There were a few youtube videos regarding creating helix patches that were really well done by a guy... Looks like he was using camtasia to screencast his Native interface. I seem to remember that they were about 40 minutes long and his trick was to add a slight amount of tremolo in his signal chain. However, I can't find his videos anymore. I think he was a Mexican guy? Does anyone know what I'm talking about. He did some really good stuff with impulse responses. Any help locating his videos would be appreciated.

    Line 6 Updater/HX Edit doesn't See Helix.

Hi I need help. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all helix drivers/apps without my helix connected. tried 3 USB Ports. My PC windows 10 recognizes the device under device manager (audio, video and game controllers. there is an exclamation point next to line 6 Helix icon. I have a Dell XPC 8920 Intel R Core TM i7-7700K CPU 4.20GHz 4.20GHz. Thanks for your support
  8. Just ran into this problem myself. It happens (so far) only when I have Stomp connected to HX Edit on my MacBook. Occasionally when I go to select a new preset in HX Edit - suddenly no sound will output. Although the Stomp appears to be working as normal - I can change menus, settings, etc. Just no sound. Only thing that “fixes” it is to turn the Stomp off and then back on. I’ve submitted a ticket with Line 6.
  9. Hey! I am helping a friend set his stomp up and he wants an external tap tempo switch. I was able to reassign button 3 and then use at TRS cable to set up the external switch but the tempo isn't responding. If I press hold, it goes to the tuner. otherwise, it goes from 0 to 8000ms if I press or let go. I have 3 switches I am trying, just in case: an MXR tap, a strymon mini and a boss Boss FS-5U (momentary) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Anybody have a Helix Native license for sale?

Sorry for late response, but I messaged you!
  11. I just found this thread, and I wonder too if someone has gotten it to work on a surface book.

    IR length discussion

The educational side is exactly what this is about and it's a great time to be a guitar geek when reaching "professionals" is relatively easy. There's one thing I think we need to discuss that I'm a little bit afraid of talking about but here goes: much of the IR length being good/bad has to do with the quality of the IR itself. Bare with me - I'm not hear to bash other IR producers but rather talk about the tests that I've made and the findings. A full length IR f.ex. 500ms in this example contains raw data of a mic up in a room. Now let's say that the room is in many ways no ideal for miking cabs and there are many reflections and almost like a really loud reverb in it... this would happen if you shoot IR's in a small room with no treatment. This kind of an IR will most likely sound better when you're only hearing that 20-40ms instead of the full 500ms. This does support what Pete said that it's better to control the tail of the IR with a reverb. However the situation with IR's that f.ex. I make is that my room is built to be the perfect size for a cabinet and treatment has been added where needed but not so much that the "air can't move naturally". So I pay a lot of attention to make that tail very nice. Remember that the highest quality reverb plugins are IR based reverbs like Waves IR-1. This is what we're essentially talking about here - you're cutting away that super realistic room sound and replacing it with a reverb effect that will not be the same quality. Yes we're talking about a very small thing here. Still I believe that the only way to get to the next level of modeling is to do multiple small enhancements everywhere you can and in the end the enhancement will be much bigger.
  13. My last idea would be to install in compatibility mode with Windows 7. So unless any more experienced members can chime in, it might have to be a support ticket with line6 directly. From what i see, for whatever reason, some just can't get it working on Windows 10. I personally just keep my machine Windows 7, the drivers are pretty stable.
  14. Thanks @Gaz_Ham, I have of course tried that in different ways. I have verified that the issue is hardware related as it works on another (older) laptop I have that runs Windows 10. So, the question now becomes, how can I enable the UX1 to use on a Surface book?

HX Stomp flaw, no sound sometimes

I've had the same thing happen twice in 6 months.

HX Stomp and Boss Katana 50 - sounds bad?

Usually guitar processor run better in return of an amp. Katana 50 being without FX loop, try to use the acoustic mode with your stomp. May have surprises. Také care with the gain. Around 9oclock.

    HX Stomp FAQ

Supposedly it gets better with 2.8 update, but yeah, 6 blocks is a big problem. Helix presets don't specify how many blocks are used, so what would the Stomp do if it tries to download one with more? There's no way that can work.

    MixIR is really awesome....

Hi, I don't know if you will find this any easier to use and or understand, but it's free for both Windows and Mac. Just have to register with a name and email address - not a problem. https://lancasteraudio.com/pulse/ Hope this helps.

oops.... I bought an Axe FX III.... but...

I too had a Variax - the 1st gen and while I'm sure they've improved, because of the piezo pickups there are going to have to be some compromises in tone. My Variax sounded like it was already plugged into an amp no matter what you plugged it into. There was so so much missing in the high end. I'm sure they've had to lop off quite a lot of the highs that a piezo pickup actually captures to get rid of that pingy-ness that's inherent in all of them. Not sure if they can ever do anything about that. It also didn't really interact with an amp's input impedance, likely because of the active electronics, and that gave it sort of a dead non-reactive feel. I had that thing for a few years and it was very very convenient indeed but on that instrument, everything sounded really close... but no cigar. I had deluded myself into being content with what it was giving me until that one fateful day when I picked up a "regular" electric guitar (a Strat). That day made me realize just how much it - and I, was missing. The acoustic sounds were pretty stellar though and that was really 80% of my reason for buying it. I'll probably check out a Variax again in the future... but it will be with very skeptical ears.

    Helix Bug Reports

    1. I use HX Stomp for several month (about 20 gigs and a lot of practice) and twice I get strange flaw. I turn HX stomp on and no sound at all with any preset, while analog bypass sounds goes as usual. I reboot HX and it starts working ok. Not a big problem, but I'd like not to have it and I hope it'll not be more frequent. Does anyone else have the same issues? Firmware 2.71 2. I use Ipad via camera connection kit and usb cable to control changing presets and controlling effects using Touch OSC. I use PC commands to choose presets most of the time and it workds, but If I send commands too fast (random touches) or sometimes just use CC's to control, ipad stop working as controller and Line6 stops getting midi commands (ipad app show midi send). Unplugging and plugging it back helps. iOS version 8.1

    MixIR is really awesome....

I tried using that program and I'm sure its me being stoopud, but it seems beyond my level of comprehension how to load the IR's and everything. I'm generally not unable to learn, but the program does way more than I need it to I'm sure and its not very intuitive......

    Footswitch assignments lost

I have an HX Stomp and I managed to lose all the footswitch assignments on all patches. The three led rings are /stay white and I can't assign fx blocks to them. According to the manual touching the capacitive switches for 3 secs will bring up a dialog - which doesn't seem to happen in my device. I haven't reset the device yet, as I don't want to lose my patches / IR settings. Any ideas how to fix this? Is it a known bug? I suspect this happened when I played around with a Yamaha MD-BT01 Bluetooth midi adapter, but I never changed all presets (which would require saving them individually) and I currently don't know how that happened. Thanks for your help, M.

Single vs Dual amp path channel volume matching

well yes, but for my preset OCD'ness and to help facilitate changes I hear when I play them live with the band....I dont want to have 4+ different output volume values to remember where they 'should' be. What I was asking was this...I'll try to simplify my question (for those with the same question).....though I believe I have it figured out. single amp presets 7 single amp presets, all volume matched (enough for live use and no surprises during lead boosts) dual amp presets (for live use using a song per preset approach, utilizing snapshots for verse/chorus/lead etc) Intro/Chorus/Lead = Crunch preset........Verse = Clean preset In the dual amp preset, even though I copy the Crunch Lead Preset utilizing a volume matched Amp block to the Clean preset (I use the 'lead version so all my solo goodies are copied over when I create the Song Preset, no changes in the amp block settings are made, and when I disable the EQ/Drive/Delay/Volume blocks, i'm left with my Crunch preset)...when I split the signal and have an A/B patch that is selected via snapshot.....the overal preset volume is lower than presets that do not have the split signal (dual amps). It makes sense above that when its split, the Helix is assuming you are using both paths and not muting one of them....so it drops the volume on the paths to compensate for the extra signal path's volume. So in order to not have multiple versions of the same amp block sound or multiple output block settings to remember...I was wondering where and what the best place was to make a change so that my 'settings in the blocks' can remain the same, but I can compensate for this volume difference. When I go from a single amp preset to a dual amp preset that has always been where my volume issues have come from...and I understand it now, how to adjust and compensate for what the Helix is doing signal wise. ****answer**** I can adjust the merge block to compensate the volume of the preset and leave my block settings the same that way there should be no difference in volume single vs. dual....however if there is, I can adjust that one parameter and it will be easier to be consistent with my edits.

Pod x3 live no sound output

One thing to check - the Amp/Line switch on the top panel of the device. I discovered once by accident that if this switch is in the middle position it acts as a mute switch on the outputs.
