    Wah/Volume consistent throughout Snapshots?

Well, I'm just used to hardware Wah/Volume pedals and thought I could treat the Helix pedal 100% the same. Apparently not so. But then, as said, I may even learn to enjoy it. Would perhaps be interesting to elaborate how often the Helix behaviour would result in a "wasted" toe switch vs. a saved toe switch.

    FR: "Global Blocks"

I think at the current development stage, adding global blocks would probably be quite difficult. The problem is the way Line 6 has the available DSP opened up in every preset. It doesn't allocate any DSP for any specific blocks, so if they went back and tried to shoehorn this concept into things after the fact, it would probably end up breaking a lot of users' presets.

    Wah/Volume consistent throughout Snapshots?

I should add that personally, I don't think I'd want to ever load a snapshot and have the Wah block turned on. I'd always want to turn the wah on with the toe switch. So all of my snapshots would be saved with the Wah block off and the Volume block on, with the pedal set to EXP2 (assuming EXP2 is controlling the Volume block).

    Wah/Volume consistent throughout Snapshots?

I can mess around with it later, but the whole reason they added the functionality of the EXP1/EXP2 state of the on-board being recalled with snapshots was for the very things you're talking about. As long as the bypass states and EXP states are lined up when the snapshots are saved, it should work fine.

    Wah/Volume consistent throughout Snapshots?

Fwiw, I have just been discussing the issue on the phone with a long time Helix expert - he didn't find a sufficient solution, either, others than using a separate on/off switch for Wah/Vol and controlling both through the same EXP (1 or 2). Depending on the pedal position, this may however cause a volume jump once you switch from wah to volume. Personally, I will keep my global Snapshot Edits settings at "Discard", keep "Snapshot Bypass" active for the Wah and save it as "off" for each snapshot. Will then require a new toe switch each time I switch snapshots and want to keep the wah active, but in the end I may even find it useful here and there, such as when switching from a wah clean to a wah-less riff sound. Not what I expected things to be like but should be a decent way for the time being (I hope this will get adressed somewhen in the future).

    Wah/Volume consistent throughout Snapshots?

I have tried all that. Right now, there is *no* way to keep the setting of any Wah/Vol switching consistent when using snapshots, regardless of the global settings and/or the "Snapshot Bypass" settings of the wah block. You can try it for yourself. Just set up 4 snapshots and do the Wah/Vol thing. Switch snapshots and the toe switch either way, leaving the wah on before you switch snapshots and leaving it off. Doesn't work the way I'd like it to work - as in it working as a global Wah/Vol pedal with the status remaining the same all throughout. In case I'm wrong, pretty please post a patch along with what has to be set in the global menu.

    Wah/Volume consistent throughout Snapshots?

How are you seeing snapshot alter things, exactly? The state of the on-board pedal (whether it's acting as EXP1 or EXP2) is recalled with snapshots, so maybe that's what's tripping you up? If you have it so the the bypass controller for both the Wah and Volume is set to the Toe Switch, then it should be pretty straightforward. If Volume is active and you click the toe switch, the Volume block will be bypassed and the Wah will be activated. If you switch snapshots in this state, things will go back to how the snapshot was saved (assuming you have Snapshot Bypass turned on for these blocks - turning it off could easily cause a misalignment between which EXP is active and which block is turned on). I also think keeping the Snapshot Edits parameter set to Discard is going to be easier. As far the EXP Position parameters, you probably want that set to Per Preset or Global, not Per Snapshot.

I like the global EQ - but it's something not even remotely adressing the things I wish were possible.
  11. Today
  12. My usual laptop has just about died, so I'm trying to use my work laptop for music production while I work out the cash for a new machine. However, my work machine is one of the newer Macbook Pros with 4x Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports and nothing else. What's my best (if any!) option for connecting my Helix Floor to it? I thought perhaps just buying a USB-B to USB-C cable might work (people on Ableton forums confirmed this would work for Push 2) but I haven't been able to find any other assurances re: Helix (mostly I found people who can't connect to new iPad Pros and I'm not sure if the same applies here). Would I see any performance hit if I used an adaptor (say, Apple's USB to USB-C, nothing fancy https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MJ1M2ZM/A/usb-c-to-usb-adapter). Anybody in the same situation with a solution that'll work?

There's a global eq, would that help?

    ReAmping with SPDIF

Thanks for the reply dude, i'll try to do it as you've written it, but i dont have any controlls in the komplete audio controller software that say "software playback" or "hardware playback". But i'll try again and see if i can get it to work somehow... i'll keep this thread updated, should be home in a few hours

HX Stomp - noise and tone issues

My guess is that you're experiencing a ground loop - electrical interference between your laptop computer and your HX Stomp. Try unplugging your laptop and running it on battery. If the noise disappears then this is the problem. There are solutions available but we don't need to go there until/unless you confirm the issue with the above test.

    Helix into Valve Amp

If you want to use an amp block in your Helix then you're best off going straight into your amp's effects return. If you're going straight into your amps "normal" input then you have a full helix patch including amp (and possibly a cab?) going into real combo amp with preamp, poweramp and cab of its own. So - if you want to use helix overdrive/distortion/dynamics pedals plus things like reverb/delay etc from helix - look into the 4 cable method (4CM). But that way you wouldn't use any preamp/amp/cab in helix. If you do want to use the helix amp modelling then pick either a pre-amp block or an amp block (with no cab) along with any other pedals in your chain and then go straight into your amps effects return bypassing the physical pre-amp.

    Wah/Volume consistent throughout Snapshots?

Ok, what's the recommended setting to get a Wah/Volume functionality from EXP1/2 throughout snapshots without the snapshots altering things? I seem to have tried everything: - Set global Snapshot Edits to "Discard" and "Recall". - Set global EXP position preferences to "global", "preset", "snapshot". - Set the wah block to Snapshot Bypass on/off. - Saved after each Snapshot edit. - Exchanged EXP 1 and 2. So, what's the secret sauce to get this going?

HX Stomp - noise and tone issues

Actually, I don't think the reset had anything to do with it. The problem (which came back) is that the Stomp seems to get noisy when I plug it into the computer, via the USB. I guess it isn't the end of the world - as I can always disconnect it before playing - but a bit of an inconvenience. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal, or an indication that something is wrong? Thanks
  20. Hi, I've been working for several years with the Ipad3 IOS 9.3.6 and Setlistmaker. The Midi commands to control my effects are issued by Setlistmaker via the interface "Line6 Midi Mobilizer II" which works everything well. Unfortunately, since the beginning, the interface does not transmit any Midi Commands from time to time. However, in the setlistmaker logs the commands are reported as issued. Although the LEDs of the Mobilizer both flash when plugged into the Ipad but at the command output the Led does not flash for data output to the Mobilizer. Now and then comes the message "the accessories are not supported by this ipad" Sometimes a couple of times helps to replug and from time to time it only helps to restart the ipad by pressing the home button and the on / off button together. A second Mobilizer brings no remedy. Maybe someone has the same problem or can give me a tip for problem solving?

    Bass Content

Yeah, this is a great point. I use my LT for bass all the time, and like you said, the reality is that technically every effect on the unit has a blend control, you set up a parallel un-effected path, and then use the split block as your blend. To try and put the Zoom stuff on the same level as the Helix is just silly. With it being a bass specific unit, I'm sure it has more things that say "bass" before them (Bass Phaser, Bass Flanger, whatever) but so what? And as far as no 12" cabs go, you can put the bass "amps" into the 12" cabs pretty easy....

    2.82 Update

Hi! I had no problems updating, But, I tried it at rehearsal last night and it was a nightmare. I'm using a JTV-69 Variax. The thing was jumping in and out all the time, so I went back to a normal jack cable to get through the evening. When i updated to 2.81 there were similar problems, but not with 2.80, so I have re-installed 2.80 and hope for the best. There must be something missing in the final testing of these updates. For professional use, these problems must not appear. It would be better for some delay, for a serious testing, and no nasty surprises. Moral; NEVER update the night before a gig (I don't anyhow).

    Helix into Valve Amp

Hi guys, i just got myself a Helix and am using it into my Blues Junior, its to replace my pedal board which has all the basics, Wah, Boss Compressor, DD7, and drive in the form of Fulltone Fulldrive 2, TS Mini & Voodoo Lab Fuzz into the BJ set Clean. I still run the BJ clean but found that the presets on the Helix sound pretty bad, I see all the main presets have very distorted basic settings for example JTM45 with Master and Channel level high and gain halfway or over. Would I be better using presets without an amp model, just effects? I tried it in my Alto powered monitor with the amp models on but it sounds very sterile? Plus I play in a small covers band playing in bars etc and i like having an amp behind me! I got the Helix to simplify my set up and offer more effects for certain songs. Advise?

    2) Controller Ok, we're all old men in white suits. So we don't want to crawl around on dirty stages, destroying our backs and contaminating our pants. Don't get me wrong, the Helix is incredibly easy to adjust with the capacitve switches and the clever navigation options. But apart from the possible uncoolness coming along with stage crawling, nothing beats a properly laid out touchscreen for parameter adjustments. And most of us have one of those with us all the time. So why not make use of them? Please note: I am *not* talking about an editor for mobile OSes here. I don't think it's required, either. I mean, you will very likely craft your precious patches at home, using all the comfort of HX Edit on a real computer. But you may want more and easier control while playing (or while setting the Helix up). Without the stage crawling. So, what such a controller should do is to allow for a user defined amount of parameters to be controlled through a user defined amount of virtual faders, switches and maybe XY-controllers (think along the lines of, say, a Kaos Pad). Now, there's generic MIDI controller apps which could be used for similar things. But they're coming with serious issues: - On Android, the amount and functionality of those controllers are abysmally bad. - Once you use snapshots (an who wouldn't?), things get pretty messy with the Helix, see this thread for further information: - There's no feedback between whatever apps and the Helix. Which means, when you change a parameter on the Helix, it won't be reflected in the app. The same goes for switching patches, the changes of whatever parameters won't be reflected in the app. So, IMO it'd be just great if Line6 offered such a controller app. To give you an (extremely) rough taste of what such an app might be able to do (among plenty of other things), I created a very rough mockup (first attempt got hosed because the Helix acted up, see thread linked above). Please ignore my voice, my english, my playing and the video quality.

    FR: Librarian/Controller for Mobile Devices

Hi, I think it'd be tremendous if Line6 would add something like that to their portfolio. I'll try to elaborate a bit. 1) Librarian Why would you need it? Well, as we all know, unlike, say, the Kemper and the Headrush, the Helix doesn't feature an option to connect a USB stick/drive to manage your patches and IRs. I also don't think this will ever happen as I doubt the USB port on the Helix would be able to serve as a host (the used USB type B socket might be a good indicator). But then, the Helix is capable to communicate through USB just fine. And I would say that most (if not all) users own a mobile device being able to work as a USB host (iOS users need a camera connection kit, for Android it's a USB OTG adapter). As a result of that, it would likely be a not too tough challenge to code an app serving as a librarian. We all know that there's a certain chance of the Helix acting up in a way forcing you to restore everything to the factory defaults. Should that happen on a gig - well, good luck. As is, you would have to have a laptop with you to restore your patches. Personally, I almost never carry my laptop to gigs. But I always have my smartphone with me (just as everybody, right?). With a librarian, you would simply connect it to the Helix, restore your patches and be done. Further things a librarian would/could offer: - Downloading Helix patches (and IRs) straight on your mobile device and transferring them to your Helix. - Managing IRs (we all know that 128 isn't enough in some scenarios). - Managing (and likely renaming) patches and setlists. I'll continue with the controller in the next post.
