    HX stomp USB noise

This is the difference in levels when I select the HX stomp as input and the Duet as input. In both cases, the noise is present.

Yes that's the line level when the Duet is selected as input and output and also when the USB is connected from the HX stompt to my Mac.

So are you still talking about recording through your Duet here?

New Helix LT user: Helix into combo amp questions

I know it’s counterintuitive, but I prefer the sound of the Helix full amp model and IR into the return of my Marshall tube amp. I’ve tried the preamp/no IR approach, and it always sounds small to me. I use a wet/dry/wet setup, and the Marshall is the dry in the middle. My xlr outputs go to 2 frfr speakers. Pretty big sounds/tones. Good luck on your tone quest.

The level in the preset is on 0 db. I definitely don't want to increase it as the noise exponentially increase also. Unfortunately apart from the low volume I have this constant ground noise that is clearly hearable in the recording. I'll send you a screenshot of my DAW.

    Helix Firmware Upgrade 2.8 - Blues :(

We could sit here and check off one genuinely "unnerving" thing after another all day long. Much of the world is unnerving, to put it mildly. This however, doesn't even make the first cut.... and to any and everyone who's fortunate enough to have nothing better to complain about: Slàinte! You've won the game of life...

New Helix LT user: Helix into combo amp questions

IMO.... this is how I would do it with your setup (some has been said above, I am just going through all the steps to be complete) Plug your guitar into the Helix Plug the output of the Helix into the POWER AMP IN or Effects Return (depending on what it has) on the Marshall Do not use "cabinet" models on the Helix (use the preamp model, or the amp without cabs) Dial it in as you wish, and use the big knob to control your overall volume volume. (NOTE: there are no particular rules with a modeler like the Helix.... the above is just a general guideline) As for your tone/feedback... that is different from rig to rig, setup to setup. IMO, controllable feedback comes from volume and position, not gain - but there are always exceptions. All I can suggest is that you don't scoop the mids too much.... that's where all the resonant frequencies are. If you get "ear splitting" feedback... that likely means the highs are taking off before the mids can.

Plus, you know that if they truly hadn't said anything about any updates since the last one people would be posting about how unnerving the silence is.

    Helix Native Problem

This sounds like a real hairball, and I know you already mentioned the Norton route, but is it possible Norton or a Windows firewall is blocking access of Helix Native to the internet? That wouldn't necessarily mean you have to give up on Norton, but I've run into similar problems with McAfee and I had to go in and grant special permission for that program to access the internet.

    HX Stomp Question

As Datacommando indicated above, the manual actual shows an easy way to do it by utilizing the "Send Left" FX block and placing it just before the cab/IR block on your signal chain. The downside of this is obvious, it uses up one of the Stomp's precious six blocks. It would be a god send if they would design the Stomp so that you could create a path B signal chain without using a block, but unfortunately that isn't the case. Still, you should be aware that another option would be to create a path B and have it go out the "send" output on path B to your power amp. Sometimes utilizing an additional delay, or a reverb, or even just a low DSP usage EQ or compressor on a path B can be more useful to your signal chain than a simple FX send block.

Change Pitch Wham range via Footswitch

Hello all - I'm new to the Helix Floor. I'm trying to create a preset that allows me to drop pitch an octave (-12) via the expression pedal and then up an octave via expression when a footswitch is engaged. When the assigned switch is disengaged I'd like to go back to down an octave (-12). If I could do this using two separate footswitch assignments that would work too. So far I'm unable to make this work. Thanks!
  14. I set my return from the Helix to -4db, that helped me a lot. I also have it set to line level, and just like you, I modified my FX loop to serial. Mesa should just put a switch on their amps that let you change to serial FX loops. I also had to put some time into dialing in the Helix. I noticed some of the dirt boxes didn't sound so good with the Rectifier -- like the OCD. Since we have the same amp, I can post my patch this evening when I get home.

Unnerving is such an odd word to describe what you're feeling while waiting for a firmware update... It's really not that big of a deal. It will happen in due course.

New Helix LT user: Helix into combo amp questions

Ideally you should be plugging the Helix output into the effects return of the Marshall which will then use only the power amp portion of the amp allowing you to get the clean and accurate modeling output of the Fender Twin through the Marshall power amp and cabinet. Because you're using a physical cabinet you wouldn't typically use the modeled cabs or any IRs in your signal chain.

    HX stomp USB noise

When you say the level knob, are you talking about the physical volume knob on the unit? That has no effect on the USB audio. Only the level in the preset will affect that. It sounds like you just have your presets created at a relatively low volume. Again, it's not really that big of a deal if the level going into your DAW is sort of low. With 24 bit digital audio, you really don't lose any fidelity by recording at lower levels. It actually gives you more flexibility while mixing. But if you want things louder, go to the output block, and increase the level parameter there. You can increase the preset volume by up to 20dB there. As far as the power supply, that's not really the issue. If it were grounded, it could actually be more problematic. The ground on a power supply isn't there for noise reason, but simply for safety issues. The Stomp falls below the threshold, load-wise, where a grounded power supply is required.

New Helix LT user: Helix into combo amp questions

Generally if you are playing directly into a real amp you are not going to use modeled amps, preamps, or cabinet sounds. But that is a basic guideline. If you want to experiment with using the preamp sounds or even the full amp sounds I recommend doing it with no cab or IR model. Also check the settings for output on helix for instrument and line level and try both to see if that helps with the sound your trying to get. Then mess around with with some of the different EQ blocks in helix after that to see if that helps you recreate the sound you are going for, and helps you find the feedback frequency you are trying to get. I haven't used a Digitech RP500 but since its an older and cheaper product I'm guessing the cabinet modeling in it was probably acting as more of a basic EQ, while cabs in helix or IRs are creating a very complex EQ that might not help you (or it might but I would try that last)

    HX stomp USB noise

I have the level knob all the way up on my hx stomp and the input signal I receive in my DAW is very low, which requires me to increase it by 15 db to reach a decent waveform. I think it's really a lot to increase a recordings by more than 3-4 db's. I just found out that the power adaptor of the HX stomp is not grounded. Could be that the reason of my annoying ground noise? If so, (apart from wondering why Line 6 engineers did not thought of a grounded power adapter) which power adapter I could buy to solve the issue? Furthermore, could I solve the problem by buying a filtered power strip?

Logic has no place on the internet...it interferes with all the baseless speculation. If we all started thinking about things, how would we get a decent gripe and whine off the ground? ;) "The Gripe and Whine" would be a great name for a $hitty dive bar...

    Helix Firmware Upgrade 2.8 - Blues :(

The way I see it... The last day of Spring is June 20th and any day the update comes before that is a bonus not a disappointment. IMO that is an odd thing to be "unnerved" about. They could have said nothing.... leaving you wondering if you would ever see another update ever again. Forever worried they might pull a Fractal and hide the next update inside a new hardware unit. There are a couple of features in 2.8 that I plan on using extensively.... knowing about this update in advance gave me the chance to pre-plan how I might use it differently.

    Helix Bug Reports

Hi, First thing to try is run through the Factory Reset options and see if it clears the bug. Make a back up of all your presets first then try. HX Stomp 1. All 3 Footswitches clears all presets/IRs 2. FS1+2 resets presets and IRs 3. FS 2+3 does a factory restore (globals, presets, IRs) Option 3 may be the best way to put it back to normal. If none of these work, then you should raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps/makes sense.

    HX Stomp FAQ

Hi, “ttkfirst”, I wouldn’t hold my breath, waiting for a response from DI on this forum. The best thing to do to contact Eric (Klein) would be to post on TGP or the Helix group on Facebook. Line 6 staff rarely bother to post on here. As for your question, I’m not certain because I don’t own a Stomp, but I don’t think that is possible. If I am giving you the wrong information then someone on here will, no doubt correct me. If you’re using the USB for recording via a DAW you could listen to the metronome, or click from that! Regards
