    2.81 NOT up to speed

I backed up my presets but I didnt have to reload them they were there after all of my updates.I only used my back up when I cleared the helix and used the new presets that was when I didnt have my backups and I loaded them back up.Maybe people might be loading them twice, maybe people hit that last continue button before letting the helix restart and reload everything.I dont know I updated the line 6 update I had the helix off when I updated HX edit I shut hx edit off completely I did say yes again to all of the drivers it wanted me to install.I turned on my helix signed on to updater and it did eveything in 5 mins.It kept all of my presets but like I mentioned earlier I wanted the new presets so I rebooted helix it erased everything I had gave me new presets then I loaded my backups.I never got the keyboad message on my computer about the helix being a new qwerty keyboard but everything is fine.I hope you guys can get it back to factory and load what you need.

Took the Leap to 2.81...what's all the fuss about???

LA Comp adds +4dB so I have its level set at -4dB to shave off the bump.

Should I buy helix native or hardware?

Perhaps, but don't know about that. We're comparing the sound of presets in both environments, monitored through the same speakers but routed through different A/D and D/A converters. The presets were initially created in either one of the two environments then imported into the other. Presumably we tweaked the presets to sound their 'best' in the original environment. In that case, any presumed deficiencies in the Helix converters would have been EQ'd out as much as possible. Then they would sound not as good even when the 'better' converters exposed the differences. (And the same would be true in reverse - assuming the Helix converters are 'better' :-) ) In any case, this is no more than a potentially interesting theoretical discussion. It sounds like what it sounds like - full stop. If there's a difference so be it!

2.81 boot failure, hung and useless

Sorry, you are having issues, but FYI never- NEVER update anything if you are using it in a few hours. Not ever your wristwatch!

    2.81 NOT up to speed

Why would dragging them to the desktop 1st make "any" difference?

    2.81 NOT up to speed

I'm not 100% sure but I believe that icon indicates 'assets' purchased from the Helix Marketplace - whether presets or IRs. Did you purchase the 3 Sigma ones from the Marketplace or were they purchased (or free) before the Marketplace existed?

Should I buy helix native or hardware?

Is that so. Well, In that case, Line-6 should have used a "better" audio Interface when making Native then. ; ) All jokes aside If that were the case, I would have expected Native to sound "better" to my ears than it does. Why? Because the A/D and D/A converters in the Apollo are superb. I just think its "my" ears which would make sense because they are old and have listened to my playing over the decades. ; )

Should I buy helix native or hardware?

That would probably account for some difference I expect, at least re: the respective A/D and D/A converters.

    2.81 NOT up to speed

Not sure if its similarly related...But since the 2.8/2.8.1 update (everything 'known bug' went fine for me btw), i've decided to redo my templates and core presets. I deleted and reimported my IR's to clean up the ones I dont use, and the IR files now do not sound hte same as they did before. They were purchased via the l6 online store (Ownhammer Freidman pack). I've tested A&C block vs Amp/Cab blocks vs Amp/IR block....and the stock cabs are fine, but anything imported (3Sigma guitar IR's as well) sound not right when dropped in my preset. I'm going to try CraigAndertons approach of dropping them on the desktop then dragging over....however I store my IRs in a special L6 folder for easy remembering on my end, and have tried dragging/dropping as well as using the 'import' button in HX Edit. Not sure if its the same or if its a different issue on L6 end or my end. One last note, anyone know what the little guitar pick symbol means next to the IR file name in HX Edit? Its only on my actual CAB IRs not the 3 Sigma ones....

Should I buy helix native or hardware?

Nope, I'm using Helix as a guitar processor. My audio Interface is an Apollo Quad. My Helix and Kemper, my Fender SuperSonic and Marshall Code and DSL all sound good thru the Apollo.

Should I buy helix native or hardware?

And you're using Helix as the audio interface for your DAW on Mac?
  14. Can anybody tell me what Op Amp and ADC the G10 uses? O a clear photo of the ICs will also help. Thanks!

hx reading expression pedal position changing presets

Not sur about the HX Stomp, but in the Helix Rack and Floor models this behaviour is determined by a Global Setting. Check the HX Stomp manual to clarify.

    Helix with synth via midi

I've never used the midi features on the Helix, but thinking that it could be useful in a live band situation for triggering maybe a synth to help fill out ,and give more depth to certain songs. I'm essentially a guitarist with limited keyboard skills ,but i believe that with something along the lines of a Roland JD XI that stuff could be pre programmed, and triggered via the Helix ? I'd love to know if you use the Helix in this way, and just exactly how creative you can get with it . Thanks.

    Headphone sound thin and weak

You're facing a common situation for users who connect any Amp/cab modeling device to a guitar amplifier. If you select a cab model in your preset and then route the output to a guitar amp you then essentially have two cabinets in the signal chain - the modelled one in the device and the physical one. That rarely sounds good. You may even be using two amps if you connect the FH output to your regular guitar input on you amp. The fact that the sound from your amplifier sounds good suggests that your preset is configured to use no cabinet model, and perhaps no amp model. Hence, when you use headphones in the Firehawk you are hearing exactly what you describe: "Just sounds like there's no amp or cabinet modeling or anything." - because there probably isn't. And yes, this is what it will sound like if you connect your current preset output to an FRFR/PA speaker. The solution requires you to be aware of your signal routing and configure your preset accordingly. If you're using headphones (or connecting directly to FRFR/PA) you need to use an amp+cab model in your preset. If you are connecting to the guitar input on your amp your preset needs no amp or cab model. If you are connecting to the rear input on your amp (bypassing the preamp and using just the cabinet of the amp) then your preset needs an amp model but no cab model.

Helix LT and PC no longer speaking

I believe he re-installed just the driver from the v2.70 HX Edit installer package. I think he is running Helix firmware v2.8, HX Edit v2.8, and the driver from the v2.7 package.
  19. question: when changing presets…does the hx stomp automatically read the connected expression pedal, or does it go to a stored worth, and read the connected expression pedal after the first movement…? Thanks a lot!

    Headphone sound thin and weak

When I have the Firehawk FX played into my amp, it sounds great. Love it. But when I plug in my headphones (into the Firehawk), it sounds crappy. Decent headphones, too. Sounds the same plugged into headphone output of the amp. I know that it won't sound the same in the headphones as from the live amp, but it sounds pretty thin and bad. 1) is there some switch or setting I'm missing? 2) is that crappy tone what I'll get if I plug it into an FRFR (or PA, or laptop)? 2a) or do I need to set up my patches so they sound good in the headphones, even though it might not sound as good in my live amp? 3) I've played with the patches and can't seem to make anything sound good in the headphones. Just sounds like there's no amp or cabinet modeling or anything. Sounds like what I heard in my phone's back before I had the Firehawk, which leads me back to question 1... Thanks!

    Helix XLR out competely dry

But if you set the output to multi, 1/4-Out and XLR-Out should sound the same. I don't think the loop has something to do with it (test it by deaktivating the loop). Because it works on the other presets, I would guess the preset is faulty. ...Maybe you have a clean Path2 in the preset and the XLR-Output is accidentally activated?

Helix LT and PC no longer speaking

Sorry if I misunderstood something. But Helix Edit 2.7 and the included USB driver does not work with 2.8 Firmware. Why didn't you install HX Edit 2.8???

Can't Sign in to Helix Native

Hi, I would always prefer Ethernet as a more stable connection, so use that to connect all the time you are using the trial HNX and you should be fine. If you decide to buy, once you computer is authorised, you no longer need to be connected all the time. Glad to know that you are finally up and running - have fun.

Helix LT and PC no longer speaking

My guess is this is the same situation i ran into when I tried to connect HX Edit 2.70 to a 2.80 updated Helix unit. When I investigated the Helix USB device driver in the Windows device manager it had an error which stated it was unable to run. Switched the Helix unit back to the previous one with 2.70 and HXEdit and the device driver worked fine.

    HX Stomp UI freezing

I feel your frustration. As a software engineer myself, I can tell you that there is an eternal struggle between releasing software as early as possible (you want your customers to experience all the fancy and amazing stuff you've been working on) and on the other hand to provide a software, which is as stable as possible. Proper testing takes an immense amount of time and at the end there will never be a 100% stable version (ancient programmer's wisdom: there is always one more bug). Best thing to do is trying to understand a company's philosophy and adapt accordingly when it comes to software updates. Line6 seems to be more pushing forward than conservative, which usually results in fancy stuff and a bit more unstable first releases. Therefore, if you want a stable version, I'd advise to wait a couple of months before upgrading your firmware. @Line6 Maybe a Beta-release would be a good idea for the next big release. That's what we do in our company and it's a great way of getting customer feedback, engaging those who want to try the new stuff (but are aware that there might be issues) and still create the same hype for new features.

    HX Stomp UI freezing

Same issue here! Was running my MIDI board with MIDI clock on 2.71 with no problems (RJM Mastermind PBC-10, FW 2.4.0). Updated my HX Stomp to 2.81 and it freezes as described above when the Mastermind sends a MIDI clock. Checked a lot of things and can to the same conclusion: 2.81 cannot handle MIDI clock signals properly. Work-around until bug fix: - turn off Rx MIDI CLOCK - downgrade to 2.71

2.81 boot failure, hung and useless

Have you reinstall HX EDIT 2.81? All drivers and the updater are included in this package. I had the the same issue with 2.8(no divice found in the updater and Helix stucks at "Entered Update Mode!"). It's caused by an USB driver issue. Close all line6 and audio software. Turn off the Helix. Uninstall all Helix software and reinstall the HX Edit 2.81 software. Reboot your computer. Turn on the Helix and start the Updater again. If it still does not work, try switching the USB port. Try to hold F6+F12 at start. If all else fails try updating from another PC ...There are some other topics about this problem in the forum.
