    HX stomp USB noise

It’s just a ground loop. It’s quite common when you multiple ground paths running between two pieces of equipment.

Ear Pain after switching to Digital

I agree with some of the other posts here. You shouldn’t need to buy anything else or change your set up at all just do a little more tweaking. I can get the helix to sound great at gig level and home level but those aren’t necessarily the same thing. I’ll vote for turning it down to a reasonable volume and then tweaking... I don’t know how much you mess with the hi cut and low cut on the cabs but I find that extremely useful as well if you’re using the stock cabs try adjusting the mic distance. These are simulations of mic’d cabs and even if you had the mic 12” (vs 1 - 3”) from the cone or edge no one actually listens to their amp with their ear that close to the speaker, it’s a totally different sound.. It’s too bad they didn’t have a mic setting of 6 to 8 feet (adjustable) to simulate where a guitar player is actually standing when listening to their amp. I think that blended with a close mic’d cab might help get that amp in the room sound through FRFR. I have a power cab but I really just use it between gigs when I don’t want to bother setting up my PA speakers in my house. I use the PA speakers for tweaking tones, the power cab is just for quick easy home practice. I like it, but honestly you should be able to do just as well with the L3Ms.

Most versatile amp, and most versatile cab for cover band?

Placater clean and dirty. It’s great that there are so many choices and I do use other amp models for different things but I think if these were the only two amp models in the helix, I would have no trouble doing patches for all the tunes I play in both bands. They are so versatile and sound so good. And If I didn’t have any IRs i would use the greenback 25.

How do I move footswitches in "Edit" software--e.g. FS1 to FS3

What Line 6 device and what Edit program are you using?

    HX stomp USB noise

Hello, I just bought my first Line 6 product: the HX stomp. I am having an issue and I'd like to know if I am doing something wrong or if it's a defect of my unit so I could eventually return it. I connected the HX stomp through my Apogee Duet input in order to record to my DAW (and also to play through my speakers using the amp simulations and the IR's I bought). As soon as I connect the USB of my HX stomp to my Mac (because I want to edit presets with HX editor) I get an annoying ground noise. If I unplug the power cable of my Mac the noise it's reduced a bit but not entirely which makes it impossible to record high quality sounds. This only happens as soon as I connect the USB (included in the HX stomp) to my Mac. On the other hand, If I select on my DAW the HX stomp as input (other than the apogee duet) the noise is gone. I would like to use the Apogee Duet sound quality for recording, rather than the HX stomp internal audio card. The only solution seems to disconnect the USB cable to get rid of the gnd noise. Anyone is experiencing the same problem? Thanks a lot for your help! Simone
  8. HI, Can anyone help me to do this --to move the footswitches in "Edit" software-so, that means I keep all the pedals, but assign different foot swtiches to different pedals. Is there an easy way in the "Edit" software. THanks for your help!

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

you basically never need to look at Ableton, and never need to touch the mouse. it can be in the background while u have youtube up or something, and it still works with Push 2

    HX Stomp FAQ

Hello @Digital_Igloo, I figured I'm not the only one in the web with the same question but I couldn't find the answer. So here I go: When using the HX stomp as a USB interface, is it possible to monitor something ELSE than the "main out" in the headphones? (Explaination: I want to hear the click/metronome in my headphones, while sending the audio without metronome to the main outs) Thank you!

You'll need to install the ASIO drivers from the Focusrite website. Remember that to change ASIO drivers in Sonar you first need to disable the inputs and outputs assigned to the old driver. The first solution allows you to record two tracks in Sonar. You could have one track be a specific instrument (guitar? vocals?) panned all the way left, and the other track be a mix of everything else you have running thru the mixer panned right (using the mixer's level controls to emphasize different instruments). OR two tracks with emphasis on different instruments in each (using the PAN and level controls on the mixer). A simple live jam recording setup. And you can always add overdubs later on separate Sonar tracks. The second solution allows you to record TWO specific instruments, say, Vocals and Guitar, on separate tracks, and a THIRD track with a mix of the remaining instruments from the mixer with differing stereo placements and levels of the instruments. A much more interesting mix with emphasis on the Lead instruments. The preset I attached (save it as a template) demonstrates the second solution and, of course, if you wanted to do an instrumental with second guitar or keyboards (or?) you could use a DI Box to take the instrument to the mic input (set the mic input to LINE or INSTRUMENT as necessary). You could then overdub vocals by setting a fourth track (or as many tracks as you want) to the same inputs you used for the earlier tracks. It's not perfect, but until you get your ZOOM it's pretty darn flexible with the equipment you have. Also, keep in mind that the effects that I used on the three Paths were purely for demonstration purposes. You could bypass any of them and use the tools available in Sonar (or aftermarket VSTs such as the FREE Blue Cat Audio package or very affordable WAVES VSTs) for mixdown. The more Instruments you can record on separate tracks the more options you have at mixdown. EDIT: The path I set up for guitar uses the first processor, since you likely want more effects for guitar. The second and third paths share the second processor, since there are less effects to use up DSP.

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

I'm just a Reaper guy. Does Ableton offer a lot of things Reaper doesn't over all?

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

or being able to select ONLY usb1/2 AND Digital. but nothing else. that would fix it. (in ONE output block on the Helix)

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

or i can spend more money for a 3rd soundcard and run all the outputs of the line 6 gear into it. which is what i used to do but i cant do that anymore because it broke and it wasnt any good really just a focusrite. i been eyeing the universal audio soundcard...

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

this is an ableton problem really. as you can only choose 1 soundcard. where as using Reaper i can use as many soundcards that r plugged in i like. but making helix and powercab share the same soundcard would make everything so easy

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

the helix is 1 soundcard. and the powercab is a 2nd soundcard. both have there own usb port on the pc. seamless would merge the 2. i dont think u understood that part

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

maybe they will update the helix and powercab to work with better routing, maybe instead of multi on the output, we could choose exactly what we want. or make helix and powercab seamless so that we only need 1 soundcard

Rd2rk- thanks again. I was able to get your first suggestion to work as intended except I have to buy another stereo breakout cable. I also could not figure out how to define the 2i2 as the soundcard so I instead told cakewalk to use the MME driver. Everything seems to work as intended. Next we tried to connect a mic to the helix xlr mic in (I dont have the right cables to connect it directly to the mixer) but there appears to be a new learning curve associated with connecting a mic to the helix. It looks like the preset has to be modified to include a signal chain for the mic. Is that correct? I have not tried your second suggestion yet as the first one seems to be working ok. Do you think there would be a significant advantage to the second scheme? btw- did you order that zoom mixer yet? ;) My son-in-law is in the business and he likes this one better. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Sig12MT--soundcraft-signature-12-mtk-mixer-and-audio-interface-with-effects thoughts?

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

Okay, now what you're trying to do makes more sense to me. The easiest way is just a split at the very end, one going to your amp, the other your DAW. This sounds a lot like what you're already doing, and the Helix usually has plenty of blocks for this. The only downside is if you want to be listening to how it sounds in your DAW. In my opinion, you're still better off with Helix as your DAW because none of the amp in the room stuff comes through. Granted, I don't know what type of cab modelling the Powercab uses when it does its amp in the room modelling (aren't there six amp choices? Going off memory here). If it were me, I'd try to find a cab in the Helix that closely matched how the Powercab sounded in the DAW. Then I'd connect your Helix to the Powercab through the XLRs. I'd connect your Helix by USB to the PC. I'd then do the following: 1. Set your HELIX output block to 3/4. 2. Keep Helix input set to "multi." 3. Set your DAW master output to 1/2. This should allow you to hear your DAW recording through the Powercab. It will even allow your Powercab to create that amp in the room feel. You might want to test out that approach. Also, I'm going by memory here on the Helix DAW settings, but I KNOW I'm very close so if you try it and it doesn't work let me know. One time I created an excruciating feedback loop that about brought the whole house down because my USB settings were borked.

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

but my main issue i think is that every patch i make has to include the path 2 being split like in my patch i uploaded https://line6.com/customtone/tone/4384526/

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

    1. Helix signal path without cab block plugged straight into Powercab. (so i need to set the output block to Digital, because Multi will have the guitar coming out my monitors on performance 2. Powercab using LF Raw as the amp in the room sound. 3. Output from Powercab to DAW w/DAW set to use Powercab as sound card. ( this wont let me playback my DAW from the helix XLR, if Ableton is set to use powercab as the soundcard.) i really need helix for playback in Ableton, and to Record from the Powercab. sux because i can do this so easy in Reaper. but i just got Ableton and i wanna use it lol

Question on output : amp vs speaker

Regarding Firehawk FX output modes, I noticed recently that in amp output mode, changes to amps and cabs still effect the tone. Yet, plugged into a PA system in amp mode gets you a fizzy sound like there’s no cabinet emulation. Why does the sound change when changing cabs in amp output mode if that mode disengages the cab sim?
  26. Hello, all: I am the original owner of my Helix Floor. I’ll have to check my receipt, but I believed I purchased it in 2016 from Sweetwater. The expression pedal’s movement has become noisy and scratchy. I believe it is emanating from the heel. I watched an online video showing the repair, and I don’t feel comfortable doing it myself. For those that have paid for the repair, have you sent it back to Line 6 as opposed to taking it to a local non-authorized shop? thank you.

Helix or Powercab as my soundcard?

Those are all good points, but to do the above there would be no need for an elaborate signal chain. All you would have to do is go: 1. Helix signal path without cab block plugged straight into Powercab. 2. Powercab with IR or cab block. 3. Output from Powercab to DAW w/DAW set to use Powercab as sound card. My confusion and replies stems from the question on how much complexity to have. If you like hearing the Powercab, awesome, but you don't have to sacrifice anything by doing so.
