Internet /amp connection for backing tracks

Could you yell me Exactly the type of USB cable and the type of connections on it. Also, do you connect one side of the cable to the usb connection at the amp and where does the other end connect to on the PC? And will this produce the audio to the amp? The audio should only be heaerd in the plugged in headphone...is that right?

Musings on Helix after 2 years of use (non gigging guitarist)

An acoustic problem can't be solved with more/different gear if the real issue is a lack of understanding about what's going on. Acoustic physics and the Fletcher-Munson curve don't change based on what kind of rig you have. The room you're standing in doesn't care if you have a Marshall stack or a Helix, and your brain will interpret the relative loudness of different frequency ranges the same way every time, no matter what the source of that sound is. And there's only so many things to adjust. If you're hearing mud, there's too much bass...pull it back. If it's screeching at you like nails on a chalkboard, trim the highs. If it sounds full and balanced by itself but disappears in a mix, your problem is a lack if midrange.
  9. Fair enough. I was so frustrated by it that I was thinking "will ordering a Power Cab Plus solve my issue, thinking it would be more present and up front and more in your face than the FRFR?" Sounds like it won't, at the end of the day.

"Note that it records each channel separately and plugs into your DAW via usb. " I know, I read through the manual looking for some reason not to like it. Couldn't find a one.

THANKS A LOT! Here I am, trying to help, and what do you do? GIVE ME G.A.S., that's what! I don't NEED that recorder. It doesn't really do anything my current setup doesn't allow me to do. I haven't looked at hardware recorders in years. BUT I WANT IT! It's cute, and portable, and all the controls for everything, tracks, monitor mixes, EVERYTHING, are RIGHT THERE! I HATE YOU! OK, I'm calmer now. Where were we? Oh, yeah - "...how to make the best use of what I have, even if it doesn't satisfy all my wants." As EVERYBODY has so far said, your biggest problem is monitors. The Katana just ain't gonna cut it for that. I get that you don't want to sell it, but you CAN dump the 2i2. That should get you $100. Along with all the other things we don't know about you is where you live. Are you near a large city, or out in the sticks somewhere? Check Craigslist, you may be able to find a deal on a cheap power amp and small unpowered speakers - 8/10 inch - or a decent home stereo amp with largish speakers. Just to get you through till your ship comes in and you can afford proper monitors or modern powered speakers and that cute little recorder......DOH! There I go again. I HATE YOU! But seriously, we can get you up and functioning with what you've got, but you NEED a decent monitoring system. I've got a Sony bookshelf system, 6" speakers with a 10" sub, cost a couple hundred, 700w, sounds decent. Not as good as my studio monitors, but functional. All sorts of similar stuff on Craigslist and ebay.

    Helix Bug Reports

Using HX Stomp, there are black boxes touching some shortcuts. Also when we are selecting category in the effects list, and we touch the fs1 or fs2 sensor, we got a black box on the screen, and covers a part of the display. Also when you enter in the tuner option and you touch fs1 and fs2 sensors, you got a question 'swap fs1 and fs2' and with any option you select, this pop up stay there mixing with the tuner screen

Bass - POD HD500X into Fender Rumble 500

I appreciate you taking the time to discuss my particular situation/amp! So it looks like the best options are: 1) POD without amp/cab sim into Rumble. Then Rumble XLR out to PA. In this case, the output mode would be set to "Combo Front". This would use the Rumble pre and power amps. Any adjustment to volume would affect the PA. 2) POD with amp model PRE and no cab model selected. Then POD XLR out to PA. In this case, the output mode would be set to "Combo Pwr Amp". I could adjust volume without affecting the PA. Since the POD XLR outs are Right and Left (neither are mono), I'd have to pan the mixer to center? Or would I pan all the way to Right (if using the Right output jack)? I think I'm getting closer to understanding this stuff haha.

HX Stomp USB to Mac Audio Output?

Oops! Sorry about that. Well, that’s something that I was unaware of until you just mentioned it in your last comment. Obviously all those things that I tried to explain came from my using the Helix Floor unit. Still, it all seems very strange to me because in the promo stuff that was posted on here in HX Stomp FAQ by Digital Igloo, he stated: ”It’s also a world-class portable guitar recording interface with digitally-controlled analog impedance circuits, zero-latency monitoring, multichannel re-amping, and headphone amp. (One might suggest it’s the perfect front end for the Helix Native plug-in.) HX Stomp is whatever you want it to be, wherever you want it to be.“ and ”USB—for recording to/jamming along with Macs, PCs, iPads, and iPhones. (iPads and iPhones require the Apple Camera Connection Kit.) HX Stomp can feed both stereo paths into your computer—along with dry versions for reamping—simultaneously“ I have to say that certainly confused me and - it’s not whatever you want it to be, wherever you want it to be!

HX Stomp USB to Mac Audio Output?

So, it turns out it can't be done at this point. The HX Stomp only communicates with itself; you have to use it's analog outputs to monitor. Line 6 Support explained it to me in an email: "We apologize for the confusion on this. When the HX is connected to your Mac it is taking over the sound card like an audio interface. This meaning you will need to have a monitoring source plugged into the HX such as headphones, speakers or an amplifier. Please note all audio will be routed through the Helix such as notifications, YouTube ect. " Sincere thanks for all of your generous attempts to help!

Hey Dragon, you hit the nail on the head. This is the mixer I am currently targeting. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/L12--zoom-livetrak-l-12-12-channel-digital-mixer-recorder but having just bought the helix its going to be a while before I can get it. I am also agonizing over speakers. I checked out all the studio monitors at GC and didn't like any of them. Currently I am thinking I will get larger PA speakers instead. That way I can use them for gigging if the opportunity arises. Perhaps 10 or 12 inch Yamahas. Realistically it will take me a year or more to acquire all that and I am NOT going to sell the existing gear. So in the meantime the question is how to make the best use of what I have, even if it doesn't satisfy all my wants. Thanks for your input.

    Helix and other equipment

I think you're letting your gear drive your approach to a problem rather than your problem defining the solution you need. There is no simpler way in the world nowadays to accomplish what you're wanting to do as far as jamming and capturing the jam session with the technology that's available now. But if you try and kludge a bunch of stuff together you'll have a constant battle of getting it to do what you want it to do. The simple approach is get a digital mixer which will have all the capabilities you need to capture the performance in a multitrack session on a simple digital disk drive. Import that into your Cakewalk and mix and polish it to your heart's delight. Run your backing track through the stereo channels of the digital mixer and jam with them, capture the jam session and import it. All you need is a couple of monitors and you're good to go. If you want two guitars going through the Helix, follow the instructions laid out. If you want to add drums, plug them into the mixer. Same with bass, same with keyboard. The session will be captured on the disk drive. It's even possible with some digital mixers to direct the output directly into your Cakewalk. The answer you want isn't in the Helix because that's not what the Helix was designed to do. It's a guitar modeler and processor. It's a good piece of the puzzle, but it's not the whole solution. But the simple solution is out there and it's not complex at all. It's a turnkey system nowadays.

Experiments With Helix Master Volume Settings

Right, I get that there is a learning curve to go from clueless>novice, and novice>experienced and experienced>expert, etc....even with my years of experience growing up with the Boss units and a rack setup, and then the G-System, then the Fractal unit, then back to Boss and ultimately here in the Helix-sphere....there is still a learning curve to learn the hardware, software and output signal options. Some of those subjects and tricks/tips carry over from one unit to the other because the application of techniques and signals is the same regardless of what rig you are using...however, all those have their own curves and some just never take the time to learn that even though you may be doing everything 'right' in the Helix...your external connections will have a huge impact on what your internal settings sound like. I think that is where most people get confused and give up. If there was an internal issue, sound quality wise, the Helix wouldn't have been released....nor raved about, nor compared in blind tests, or used on multiple professional stages (and not so professional stages) with such enjoyment and excitement. I'm far from a tone snob, but do get compliments on my tones live....this are

USB IN 1/2 Destination: Lacking AES/EBU option!!

Yes the routing options REALLY could do with a spruce up! Been waiting nearly 2 years now (since submission of my Ideascale - that even DI himself upvoted!) and we have had many amps added that sound almost exactly the same as the other amps - but not these sort of crucial improvements to usability. My pet peeves 1) we cannot assign Send / Return blocks to USBs, 1/4in, XLR, Digital 2) Path out - I would like a Multi that did XLR and USB/1/2 - not the 1/4in jacks as well, or just XLR and Digital. Or even better a "user multi" where you chose what outputs were included. Surely those are easier to code than an amp model?

How do you use the remote app for the spider V?

Well this happens on both my iPhone 8+ & iPad 4. I've tried it with both wifi & 4G & I keep getting the messages. The only way to get rid of them is to delete the Spider Remote app & reinstall. Problem is the patches that were "deleted" return & now there are TWO copies of the patch in "My Tones".
  26. I have the same amp and have it set up the same as you -- except I am running a mono cable from the Helix to the Channel switch on the back of the amp. I don't have any hum or any issues with extra noise. Try ditching the Y cable and use one cable for the channel switch. If you don't have any hum, I would guess that your Y cable method is causing a ground loop issue. FWIW, I use the Helix's Simple EQ block as a boost instead of using the Mesa Solo switch.
