  2. From the manual, USB AUDIO section: Recording a Dry DI Track For this example, we’ll record guitar into two DAW tracks simultaneously, with one capturing the Helix-processed tone and the other the unprocessed DI guitar. 1. In the Helix Global Settings>Ins/Outs>Page 3 screen, set Re-amp Src (USB 7) to “Guitar” (as shown above). 2. Dial in your desired Helix tone, while keeping the Helix Input and Output blocks both set to the default “Multi” setting. 3. Create two new audio tracks in your DAW software project: Create one mono track to record the dry DI guitar, and set the track’s input to Helix USB 7. Continued...

  3. The editor will not ‘overwrite’ anything you do on the device itself. The editor program does not have its own copy of any settings. It uses the data stored on the device to serve its display. Changes made using either the editor or the device itself are immediately reflected on the device and remain synchronized with the editor display.

  4. I can feel your frustration with this. I currently have 5 audio interfaces. Focusrite Scarlett is my MAIN AI, the rest are built into Line6 and IKMM HW. I have NEVER had this much trouble getting one to work in ANY of the DAWs I've used over the years: Cakewalk; Ableton LIVE; Reaper; Studio One; ProTools; Cubase; Mixcraft; FL Studio - I think there's a couple more that I just don't recall right now. Every one of my interfaces have their own driver (including the two that have died over the years - M-Audio and Roland). If the DIRECT MONITOR button is not the fix, give this a try: Here's a link to DL the actual Behringer Drivers for the UM2. Since this is not an official Behringer site and I do not have a UM2 I can't test them. https://bit.ly/64_Bit_Driver_Behringer Here's a link to where the driver link came from with instructions for installing and using them. He's using a different DAW but combined with my instructions you should be able to figure out the parallels in Cakewalk.

  5. Hello, and Welcome! First things first. This is a user-to-user support forum. NOBODY from Line6 hangs out here. If you want them to see your suggestion post it here: https://line6.ideascale.com/c/ But FIRST, do a search. This has been suggested MANY times. Now for the reality portion of our broadcast. Digital Igloo (Eric Klein, Chief Product Designer) has stated that the L6 product philosophy, at least in part, is that if somebody else is already doing it, and doing it well, they're not going to do it. Fractal does it (I think). Positive grid has been doing it for, like, 10 years? There's probably others, that's just 2 off the top of my head. Here's my view - I don't care. There're enough great sounding amps in Helix that I don't feel the need to invent new ones. Also, the design team has been coming up with new and original amp designs since the POD Bean days. I'd rather see them spending their development dollars doing more of that, and maybe original effects? Anyhow, do post over on Ideascale because you're right, you're not the only one who wants that. But search first and VOTE for all the others who got there before you!

  6. Hi APSRN! Welcome to the Wonderful World of Digital Music Madness! I haven't used Cakewalk in many years (prefer Reaper), so it took me a bit to get this configured properly. Hopefully I've properly documented the steps. Open Cakewalk. Go to FILE>NEW. The default should be BASIC. Name the project NATIVE and SAVE (click OK). Go to EDIT>PREFERENCES>AUDIO. In PLAYBACK AND RECORDING>DRIVER MODE select ASIO. In DRIVER SETTINGS click the ASIO PANEL. If it doesn't appear ALT-TAB until you find it. The SAMPLE RATE should auto-detect from your AI's Driver (probably 44.1k or 48k - don't worry about it). Set the BUFFER SIZE to 64. Later, when you're playing, if you get clicks/dropouts/other weird noises come back here and try 128. **The BUFFER SIZE determines the Latency. Round Trip Latency (RTL) is the amount of time between when you PICK a note and when you HEAR it. Lower is better, but how low you can go is dependent on your computer's power, mostly processor speed. You should also google Windows Audio Optimization for DAW and configure your computer accordingly. Go to DEVICE. Refer to the above screenshot. My Audio Interface is a Focusrite Scarlett. Select ALL of the Input and Output options for your AI (1-2). Click APPLY and then OK (3-4). Follow the numbered steps. 5-In the FX slot, right-click and select INSERT AUDIO FX>Uncategorized>Helix Native. 6-In the INPUT Box select whatever your AI calls USB 1 (or whichever input your guitar is plugged into). 7-Activate the TRACK RECORD button (won't record until you activate the TRANSPORT RECORD button at the top of the UI below the MENU BAR). 8-Activate the INPUT ECHO button. You should now be able to play and record if desired (by clicking the TRANSPORT RECORD button). Questions?

  8. First, make sure your HX One behaves properly when used with the Line 6 power supply that came with it. That will rule out your HX One itself as the problem. Then check the specs on your Joyo and make sure they match the HX One - 9VDC, center-negative, 2.1mm center diameter, 500mA. If the specs match and it doesn’t work there’s likely a problem with your Joyo.

  9. I don't use a MAC so I can't help with the specifics of the programs that you use. All I can say is that my FCB is currently connected to my system via USB but what I'm about to describe also worked when I connected by DIN through a MIDI interface. I set up a track in Reaper to receive MIDI from my FCB (iConnectivity MIO DIN/USB), pass it to my Helix via USB with MIDI THRU enabled, and on to my Powercab via DIN. Works perfectly with bothe Program Changes and CCs. Do you have USB MIDI set to ON in Global Settings?

  12. There is nothing wrong with posting the request on ideascale, but that comment is a little extreme isn't it? I would think that all those people that do use the unit professionally would disagree with this! Whenever I see this argument I wonder how a guitar player cannot find 500ms to stop playing between songs, or even within a song if they ever "needed" to change a preset.

  16. You set the function of the switches in the app. Global Settings (the gear icon), then at the bottom of the drop-down choose the switch you want to configure and select from the list. The gap between channels is the same whether I use MIDI or the FS. Remember, you are not switching analog channels. Calling them CHANNELS is a bit misleading IMO. It's a marketing thing. You are actually switching PRESETS. It takes a moment to UNLOAD the CURRENT PRESET from memory and LOAD the NEW PRESET into memory. This also introduces the problem that if you switch channels while a note is ringing out, depending on the FX/OD level, strange noises could ensue. Since you have a MIDI controller (assuming it's a good one) you may be able to work around the gap problem by changing things within the channel/preset vs switching. I messed around with this a bit when I first got mine but decided it was too much trouble. I just don't switch channels while a note is ringing. Works for me!

  17. When you connect to the editor it reads what is in the unit. When you make changes in the editor it is changing what is in the unit. Nothing is permanent until you SAVE, at which time the changes are saved in the unit. Nothing is saved on the computer. All changes are saved to the unit. The next time you connect, the editor simply reads what is on the unit.

  18. I use the Pod Go into a Fender 40-watt tube amp, and I break all the rules. I use the Line Out to get a "cleaner' sound instead of one tailored for amp users. I only use amp presets occasionally for distortion, typically a Bogner for a bluesy overdrive. I'm not a heavy metal guy, but I use other amp presets occasionally. As for volume, I spend hours at home trying to dial in a volume consistent with my other patches, then hours more after playing with the band redoing them. (Learn about the Fletcher-Munson curve) The only rule is to do what sounds good to your ears. (BTW, I loved my Korg AX-1000G. It was complicated to program but gave a great sound for its day.)

  20. In Logic, I always have the standard Gain plugin in the first track effect slot. This same plugin is available in GarageBand as well. Or use the Channel EQ, so you can just as well adjust the gain slider in there. I don't think that in GB you can adjust gain per region like in Logic though. And then you always have the Input slider in Helix Native. It serves the same purpose. But depending on where the HN plugin sits in the GB/Logic effect chain, it may already get hotter input from previous plugins than "expected", leading to more distortion.

  21. Every version of firmware includes a set of factory presets but they change over time. Also, the factory presets are not installed when firmware is updated; it requires a factory reset to install them. So what you’ve experienced makes perfect sense. At some point in time the firmware was updated to v3.71 from some earlier version but the factory presets for the earlier version remained in place - including the Placater Clean preset. When you performed the factory reset the v3.71 factory presets were installed, overwriting the previous set - including the Placater Clean preset. I have no idea what version of firmware included the Placater Clean factory preset but there’s a way to get it without needing anyone’s help. It’s tedious. You would have to reinstall every version of firmware starting at v3.70 and perform a factory reset after each installation so that you could inspect the factory presets associated with that firmware version. At some point you will discover the Placater Clean preset. A more efficient method would be to have someone help you by spending some time locating the Placater Clean preset among their system backups and attaching it for you. Or, search for threads here that I sometimes post that provide the factory setlists for new firmware versions shortly after they are released. I haven’t always done that but I’ve done it for recent updates. For instance: Good Luck!

  22. Hi, I have been observing this from the sidelines and you mentioned that you have bought an entry level Behringer U-Phoria UM2 audio interface and also downloaded a freebie copy of Cakewalk, along with the trial version of Helix Native. Now hopefully @rd2rk has guided you through the real basics of getting a guitar signal into your DAW and hopefully processing it in glorious stereo via Helix Native. Great! The one really important thing that you haven’t told us is - what are you monitoring the audio on? If you are listening on cheap computer speakers, such as those used for some gaming PC, prepare to be very, very disappointed. If you want to be assured that HX Native lives up to the “hype”, you need to be listening to it on a suitable output system, either reasonable small home studio powered monitors, or at least a decent set of studio quality headphones. Don’t fall at the first fence. Lots of people have failed to be impressed by digital audio when listening on completely unsuitable equipment. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: There is no hype involved, I bought a Helix floor unit way back in 2015, and followed up with Native the week it was released. I use this stuff almost everyday, no complaints.

  23. It MORE than lives up to the "hype". In fact, the real deal sounds BETTER than Native (IMO). They're SUPPOSED to sound the same, but they don't. I have a Helix Floor, HX Stomp, and Catalyst 100. All great! If you want something at an "intro" price, look into the new POD Express.

  24. Oh crap! How the heck did I get wonky drivers? Was about to give up, but my son is a very cool kid (taekwondo black belt, in the sheriff's explorers, and a pretty good guitarist) and wants a Helix of some sort for his 15th birthday. Before dropping the cash, I want to assure that it lives up the the hype. I shall trash the bad drivers and install the proper ones. Edit: I did get the driver's from Behringer, and they are ASIO4ALL. Oh well. Bob

  25. During RECORDING/MIXING it is not important to disable the BIG KNOB. As I said, that is mostly a PERFORMANCE preference. In Helix Global Settings>Ins/Outs set "VOLUME KNOB CONTROLS" to whichever Outputs your speakers are connected to (NOT MULTI!). In your DAW set the TRACK INPUT/INPUT ECHO switch (different DAWS call it different things) to OFF. During RECORDING you'll hear the Helix with DIRECT (ZERO LATENCY) monitoring. You control the playback level of any pre-recorded tracks from your DAW with the TRACK levels in the DAW. The BIG KNOB does not affect RECORDING LEVEL. During PLAYBACK/MIXING you are not PLAYING, so the BIG KNOB simply controls the Output Level of the MIX, which is controlled with the TRACK LEVEL controls.

  26. Well... err..., yeah, it's a bit tough to say so, but even as someone who was always playing the "enough amps already, use what's there, who cares about authentic XYZ?" advocate, I have to admit that the amps added in the 3.7 update are just fantastic and pretty much all I'm using now (in case the HX Stomp is my amp platform, which it isn't all the time). Especially the 2203 and Voltage amps are great and pretty much the best dirt pedal platform I can imagine. Oh yes, I would've gotten along just fine without them, and in case I had the choice between those and, say, a global block functionality being added, I'd take the latter in a heartbeat - but still, I can't deny having huge fun with those new amp additions. In a nutshell, I'm a bit split-minded. In general, I rather take new functionality and utilitarian improvements over more sounds any day, though.

  27. Sorry to possibly come across as a smartass or so, but where's the awsomeness in these requests? People are asking for separate power amp models pretty much since day one and as far as new amp models are concerned, I'm sure each and every amp on earth has been asked for already. Sure, valid requests (especially the poweramp one, as it'd add some new core functionality), yet IMO far from qualifying as "awsome".

  28. I couldn't agree more with @rd2rkin that even though it's not something I'd be interested in, it's been mentioned enough that your voice should be added to it through ideascale because Line 6 is clearly influenced by popular vote count and everyone is different in how they use their Helix. For me I just don't think it would make enough difference for my audience. They simply wouldn't know or care that I was creating my own power stack. There's more than enough versatility in the models they've given us to keep my audiences happy with my performance and for me to tailor any sound I need to match whatever type of song I need to play.

  30. Glad you got it worked out. But perhaps you should be more cautious about connecting power to electronic devices. Sounds like you connected things together without checking compatibility or requirements. That can quickly and easily cause internal components to fry beyond repair. A crackling sound and whiff of smoke should not be the way you discover that things aren’t properly matched.

  31. Received my unit today. I’ve watched videos and read the manual from cover to cover and have to agree. When you engage the preset mode, everything goes dead as far as being able to adjust anything. And when you disengage the preset mode, it does not bring up the settings that were in the preset you just had opened. I see no way to edit an existing preset and overwrite it. You can create a new patch from scratch and overwrite a preset slot, but that appears to be it. This is a bit frustrating.

  32. We all use effects in different ways. For me, setting up a bank of patches for every song is not really something I personally want to do. Having 6 Snapshots is an easier, more flexible method for me. So, I apologize. I should clarify that it would be easier to use professionally for ME. That doesn't make anyone who is fine with 4 Snapshots less professional. Yes, my wording is a little forward because I really would like to see it get done. Being offensive to people that like the current way it is setup was not my intent. More options can be a good thing. Especially, when this is just a software option.

  34. Life-saver!! I got this to work. Weirdly, it seems like my drive pedal (TC Nova Drive) is 1-indexed, but the HX Stomp Program Change commands are 0-indexed... ie. I need to send PC#6 in order to change my drive pedal to program 7. This isn't a huge deal at all, but it's a bit wonky. Thanks so much for the clarification here on the Instant commands!

  35. I'm not sure I'd get any particular benefit from it. I can't even remember the last time I played anything through my Helix that wasn't at or above 90dbSPL where the Fletcher Munson curve starts to flatten out. In my studio I do occasionally play at lower volumes, but if I'm going to be doing it for the purpose of mixing I'm again going to be in that 90db range or on a headset with the volume at that range. In addition to all of this, my Helix master volume knob is always disabled as many do because I always go direct to the mixing board from my Helix so I control my levels from within my presets so I can count on them to be gain staged equally and correctly going into any mixing board despite using different amp models and such. If I did want to play at a lower volume such as early in the morning I'd just turn down the master fader on the mixer and not worry too much about Fletcher Munson.

  36. I'm not sure what you mean by "automatically map" a custom setting? Here's how it's done to accomplish what I think you're trying to do: After setting "MIDI PC Tx" to OFF in Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo, go to your Preset, open CommandCenter and set an InstantCommand (the lightning bolts) to send the desired PC# on the desired MIDI Channel (the channel your effect is set to RECEIVE on). Anything assigned to an "InstantCommand" (IC) is automatically sent when the preset loads. Thus, no extra switch involved. You can combine InstantCommands with Snapshots (SS#). For instance, suppose when you load the preset you want your effect's slot #3 to load (SS1). In SS1 you set IC1 to send PC#3. PC#3 is sent when the preset (SAVED on SS1) is loaded. In SS2 you want to load your effect's Slot #7. In SS2 you set IC1 to send PC#7. PC#7 is sent when you select SS2. NOTE: In Global Settings>Preferences there's a setting called "Snapshot Edits". When set to RECALL you do not have to save the preset between Snapshot Edits. For instance, you can change the IC setting in all snapshots and simply SAVE the preset when done. If set to DISCARD you have to SAVE the preset BEFORE editing the next Snapshot or your edits will be lost.

  37. Two things come to mind: 1) see Global Settings, pg5, Preset Select. Set this to Load rather than the default Instant. Your list of presets won’t be heard as you cycle through them in Preset mode. The selected preset will only be heard when you press the ON switch. See manual pg 28. 2) You can bypass the HX One (turn an FX off) by pressing the ON switch. See manual pg 9.

  39. This post explains one cause of firmware updates/recoveries failing for the Line 6 POD Go. Hope this can help someone. TLDR: prior to updating firmware, shutdown any and all applications that could conceivably use audio. I rented a POD GO a couple of days ago, and the firmware was still at 1.40.1, so soon as I connected to POD GO Edit, it prompted me to update it to 2.0. Unfortunately the firmware update failed. POD Go Edit said it "updated successfully", but the screen on the POD GO device itself just continued to say "Updating..". I'm a software developer, and I know interrupting a firmware update is a big no no, so I went away and came back 30 minutes later. It was still stuck on "Updating..". At this point I sighed, turned the unit off and on, and it wouldn't boot past the "LINE 6 POD GO" screen (still shows firmware at 1.40.1). I tried a factory reset, but it doesn't get past the "Will reset Globals, Presets, IRs..." screen The steps I took were as follows: installed Lined 6 Updater It doesn't see the device. Also tried another USB Cable and alternate USB port. Tried booting POD GO holding "Page >" button. Line 6 Update now sees the device, but the firmware update fails. Will try a different computer later. Tried a different computer. No luck. (this is actually very interesting, which will become apparent later) The solution: Actually read the instructions presented in the Line 6 Updater (I know, I know, RTFM!). The first instruction provided by the Line 6 Updater is: "Shut down any programs that use audio or connect to your POD Go device, like DAWs, iTunes, Spotify, video games, etc." So I opened task manager, and saw that Spotify.exe was actually running in the background, so I killed that. I also killed MS Teams and WhatsApp Desktop. Tried the Updater again, and it worked! The reason I mentioned earlier that it was interesting the update failed on the other laptop, is that it didn't have any of those applications installed. It did however have Discord installed. I suspect that was the culprit.

  40. Ok there are a bunch of posts on this topic but I didn't find any with pictures, or any that were specifically for a helix LT model, so following the instructions from those posts without being able to see what I was getting into was a bit scary. If you're a smooth-brained half-wit like me and you need pictures (and you have an LT model). Here you go. Here's the summary of what you're going to do. Take the back off. Loosen the expression pedal bolt. Apply some lube to the spacers that the pedal pivots with. Put the back back on and re-tighten the pedal bolt. 1. Take the back off. To do this, you need to remove almost (see exception below) every single screw you see on the back and sides. You'll need a small phillips screwdriver and a small hex/allen wrench (sorry I don't know what size the one I used is). EXCEPTIONS DO NOT REMOVE the 10 screws around the XLR left / right outputs, Variax / Digital Out ports, and power cord port. You don't need to remove the two screws directly underneath the pedal. I zoomed in on them in one of the attached pics. It's ok if you do remove them, but know that they hold a plastic support piece in place for the pedal to rest on inside. When you remove those screws that plastic piece will come loose and you'll hear it rattle around the inside and then think you've ruined your wonderful line 6 helix. You haven't. It will just scare the crap out of you and then you'll figure out later (like I did) that it reattaches really easily. 2. Loosen (don't remove) the tension bolt that the expression pedal rocks on. You'll need a 10mm hex/allen wrench for this. I made about 3 complete turns to loosen it to the point where the pedal rocks forwards and backwards pretty loosely. Three may be too many turns for yours - keep an eye on the nut at the end of the bolt and don't let the bolt come out of the nut. You're basically loosening it just enough so some lube can work it's way in between the white spacers/bushings and the metal where the pedal attaches. Ok so at this point, you've got the back off. The tension bolt is loose and you can see the two white spacers/bushings at each end of the expression pedal tension bolt. 3. Apply a very small amount of lube to the top of the spacers right up against where they touch the metal bracket/braces. By "a very small amount" I mean try to use as little as possible. If you use something that drips, clean up the drips. But try not to apply any amount close to an amount that would drip or spread to another area of the board. Apply some lube and rock the pedal back and forth. Do this until you feel like the lube has probably worked its way in some. Re-tighten the tension bolt. Rock the pedal. Still hear the squeak? Loosen it again and apply more lube. Follow this process until you are squeak free. Worked for me on the first go. What kind of lube should you use? I have no idea. Would be nice if someone from Line 6 could answer that in the comments. Other posts on this topic reference many lube suggestions including chapstick (of any flavor), white lithium grease, bike chain oil, silicon lube, this teflon dry lube, and others. I used a really thin bike chain lube called "Dumonde Tech Original". Don't use WD40 - it can be corrosive. Don't spray anything. Whatever you use, apply it to a small q-tip or a thin piece of plastic as an applicator. 4. Put it all back together. If you did end up removing those two screws under the pedal that I referenced above, reattach that plastic piece to the back first. Then put the back back on and screw all the screws back in. Be careful not to tighten too much and strip the screw holes. Just snug, hand tight. That's it. You did it. You're officially a hero now. No one will care that you fixed your squeak, let alone on your own, but don't let that stop you. Rock on with your invisible hero cape. You earned it.

  41. I found it helpful when evaluating all of the factory presets to get an idea of what artist/song they were taking inspiration from in trying to duplicate the sound. Most are obvious from the preset names, but some aren't. If was wrong about any or you have any ideas about ones that I didn't figure out, feel free to add to the list. This are the Version 1 preset numbering. 42. I have it running on Win11 Insiders build. I am trying to solve the problem where PodFarm does not recognize my licenses while Monkey says my GX and my packs are all licensed on my computer

  43. Generally speaking this typically comes down to the USB cable or the way the USB cable is connected to the computer. The Helix connection doesn't work well with non-direct USB ports, and not all ports on a computer are direct. Some are typically slaved. That's where I'd start. Try different USB ports on the computer and see if that fixes it.
