  1. I attempted to install the Variax Workbench v1.75 on a clean Windows 10 64-bit OS computer. The Line 6 installer encountered a problem downloading the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). The problem is the Line 6 installer tries to download the 1.6.0 Java Runtime Environment Installer (32-bit) [Java version 6] from a URL location that no longer exists (the location is hard-coded in the installer). Since that location no longer exists, the Java download fails. The Variax Workbench installer WILL complete, but when you then attempt to launch Variax Workbench 1.75 you receive the "Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0" error mesage. Since the time the Variax Workbench software v1.75 was released (which uses Java 6), there have been releases of Java 7 and Java 8. Java 8 is the current version. HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM -- DOWNLOAD THE MOST CURRENT JAVA 32-BIT "OFFLINE" VERSION I WAS able to get the Variax Workbench v1.75 to work by separately downloading and installing the most current Java Runtime Environment, Version 8. Update 161. It appears that versions of the Java Runtime Environment are backward compatible. Here is the link for the current version of Java [Java Version 8 Update 161]: Java Version 8 Download Webpage You want to download the 32-BIT OFFLINE version (there are 32- and 64-bit versions). Under the "WINDOWS" section, you want to download the "WINDOWS OFFLINE", filesize 61.35 MB .exe file. See the attached photo. Here is the file direct download link: Direct Link to the 32-Bit Windows version The exact name of the file downloaded is: jre-8u161-windows-i586.exe When you install Java, the installer finishes by launching your default web browser. Don't worry if that fails. For example, I use Google Chrome as my default browser and it does not support Java at all. This isn't a problem because it is the Variax Workbench software that uses Java. After I installed this current version of Java I was successfully able to launch/run Variax Workbench 1.75 To get Variax Workbench 1.75 to work fully, you will also need to download: -- Line 6 Monkey -- Variax USB Drivers [Note: These two items may be installed as part of the Variax Workbench installation]

  3. Hello, I wanted to share my Helix 4CM/7CM setup with my two Marshall tube amps for those new Helix owners. I also have two Gibson Les Paul reference monitors on my desk connected via the XLR outputs. I bought a 30-foot USB cable to connect my Helix to my MacBook Pro which is on the other side of the room. I am very pleased with the results! I hope this helps somebody that hasn't tried the 4CM or 7CM. This is just for me at home, so please forgive my poor cable management. As an IT professional, I have to admit it could be a lot better. :) 4 Cable Method (4CM) for Amp #1 Cable #1 Guitar to Helix Guitar In Cable #2 Helix FX Send Loop 1 to Amp #1 Main Input Cable #3 Amp #1 FX Send Loop to Helix FX Return Loop 1 Cable #4 Helix 1/4" Left (mono) Out to Amp #1 FX Return Loop 7 Cable Method (7CM) for Amp #2 Cable #5 Helix FX Send Loop 2 to Amp #2 Main Input Cable #6 Amp #2 FX Send Loop to Helix FX Return Loop 2 Cable #7 Helix 1/4" Right Out to Amp #2 FX Return Loop

  4. Hey guys, So I was having the problem of installing gearbox on my new macbook pro 2012 on MacOS Sierra. Unfortunately I didn't find much of a solution here but I figured it out and I thought I'd share my solution. My Toneport GX now works with my mac and audio seems to work fine. Installing gearbox So if you run the master installer (.mpkg) you'll quickly see that you can't choose your hard drive because it's not OS X, but MacOS. Instead you can right click on the .mpkg file when you first open the installer and click on "Show Package Contents". Then go to Contents > Packages. Now you'll see the directory containing the individual packages. Be sure to click keep after running each package when it prompts you to move the .dmg to the trash. Install all of the packages except for the Driver Uninstaller. I don't know if the order you do this in matters but I just went for drivers, driver prefs, gearbox, plugins, line6 monkey then frameworks. You will likely have to keep security settings open to authorise running each individual package but it's a small inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. after you've installed the packages test to see if GearBox is working. Installing Drivers Go to the software download page and select your_device_name > Drivers > Mac OS X and download the driver. I didn't have any issues installing this one the typical way of just running the package. After installing the driver everything worked like a charm when I opened GearBox. Note The only shortcoming I noticed was that every time I open GearBox it gives me the first-time prompts even when I hit "Never show this again" and it opens up the documentation but I don't lose my custom tones or anything.

  5. You could always try using two instances of Helix Native, with Kazrog in between. Kazrog Sandwich! So; HXN(1) pre cabinet blocks ----> IR Loader ----> HXN(2) post-cabinet blocks/fx. You may even want to experiment using a mono track for the mono HXN(1) and IR Loader plug-ins, then bus that output to a stereo track for a stereo instance of HXN(2). I just checked out Recabinet on the Kazrog site, and think I'll get it. The other IR loaders were pretty limited in comparison. I don't really like trying to manage the IR slot configuration in HXN, and with Recabinet I could (I think) create presets for my favorite IRs. Too bad we have to use two instances of HXN for now.

  6. Have you tried the Archon with a V30 cab? I've got a patch setup with the free ownhammer recto cab IR you can download from their site, with a R121 mic (not a fan of the dynamic mics). I prefer the Minotaur in front of it rather than an 808, but that may just be personal preference. Also check out Jason Sadites videos on youtube about the cross-over split trick to tune the cabs/mics. Got some really good results with that. Also, maybe not in that ballpark you're looking for, but the new BE-100 with a greenback cab sounds pretty amazing for mid to high gain stuff.

  7. you could try the Rosen Digital Audio version. but i doubt it will sound differently. the IR loaders are pretty simple. normally you want the IR right after your Helix amp (with no cabinet, unless you are going for that effect). Then if you run your HXN amp output right into your IR loader (with no effects in between) and adjust levels, it should sound no different than loading the IR in HXN. if HXN supported Input and Output blocks, you could patch your IR loader into the path, but it doesn't.

  8. So today, on my phone at least, when I'm reading a thread, there's this black thingy on the right, offering Common FAQs and Basic Information. It covers up the right-hand side of the posts I'm trying to read, and can't be closed. Ugh. A little user testing maybe?
