This is confusing to me. Why only 60 seconds on the looper? This is supposed to be a high end jack of all trades product. Why only 60 seconds. It is 2016. Storage is cheap. Why limit this function to only 60 seconds? This seems like an intentional act to limit functionality. I don't want to have to have a separate looper pedal. That is one of the reasons I seek to buy a pedal like this. My zoom g5 has 60 seconds, and it is 5 years old. :( I am disappointed.1 point

I will say no more. The video speaks for itself.1 point

I personally own two Helix floor units. One that I use for live performances and one that is hooked up to my DAW and serves as a backup to my live unit. They were purchased roughly a year apart and I can tell no difference when I switch from one to the other.1 point

I have not compared two Helices but I would say there is no guarantee that they will all be identical. Line6 has been known to change components from one batch run of their devices to another. Usually to address a defect but I suppose it could happen due to a part's availability as well. They just recalled a batch of HX Effects for a fix so it does happen. Not that unusual in the industry really. You see it done quite a bit with computers. Any given brand name computer for example can have a whole range of different components over the lifetime of one specific model with exactly the same configuration. Those changes may or may not result in a perceptible difference. I do wish companies were more forthcoming about these changes though. I don't think there is any guarantee that every part in a Helix purchased a week after initial release is the same as the ones being manufactured now unless Line6 states that that is the case.1 point

I would think an amp's effects loop would be looking for line level signals, like from rack gear.1 point

Sorry for the necrobump, but thanks for this topic! I was setting some tests using the Firehawk with its ASIO driver (also in REAPER of course) and noticed that all of the stock presets went over 0dBFS in REAPER I can't find any actual metering in the firehawk, so I was hoping someone knew of a block diagram showing where potential overloads could be hiding based on their position before and after various volume knobs. I can set for unity, but as that unity is as far as I can tell, unreferenced, I could be blowing it at the wrong point. Any hints? Anyone know a reference level for the XLR outs, or perhaps where in the interfaces dB scale 0vu would be?1 point

There is currently no 'auto-save' setting in the conventional sense on the Helix. I believe you are both referring to the Global Settings --> Preferences --> 'Snapshot Edits' setting which can be set to "Discard" or "Recall". Although this setting affects how frequently you have to save while editing, all saves still have to be explicit, whether you are saving in between snapshot changes/edits or just once for the entire preset. The 'Snapshot Edits' parameter affects two operations, editing and saving of snapshots and presets, and also how on-the-fly changes are retained for the duration of the time you are in a preset when you are only performing and not saving anything. The behavior of the 'Snapshot Edits' settings are the same for both editing and performance but I broke them out for clarity. Edit Preset mode (with saving) Discard = Snapshot edits are discarded if you do not save before switching away and then back to the same snapshot When you use 'Discard' mode you are going to want to push save before you switch to a new snapshot while editing a preset. The 'Discard' setting when used during editing usually requires multiple saves per preset when designing your snapshots. Recall = Snapshot edits are retained between snapshot switches and only require you to save once before leaving the preset Performance mode (no saving) Discard = Any changes you make while playing live will be discarded when you switch away from and back to the snapshot. Let's say you have a snapshot with the distortion block bypassed and you activate the distortion. In 'Discard' mode, the next time you return to that snapshot the distortion block will be bypassed again, it returns back to the state the snapshot was originally saved in. Recall = Any changes made to the snapshots while playing live will be retained until you switch presets. As long as you are only switching snapshots all your on-the-fly changes will be retained until you switch away from the preset. In this case, if you have the distortion block bypassed in a snapshot and activate it, it will remain activated in that snapshot until you manually turn it off. When you switch away from the snapshot and then return to it the distortion you turned on manually will still be on. All your snapshot changes are retained until you switch away from the preset.1 point

That would be another part of what I was talking about. You have to save a lot when you do snapshots and keep track of exactly what you want. Easy to get lost. And, again, if this is the issue, it's very difficult to diganose or even tell you how to do that without actually being there. It seems to be one of those things where there are so many possibilities, each situation has it's own problems.1 point

The HX Effects allows to use 2 mono 1024 sample IR or 1 mono 2048 sample IR. I don't see why I cannot use 1 stereo 1024+1024 sample IR. I cannot move those effects after the IR block because I'm running 4CM (with a dedicated send2 before the output ) and feeding the PA with IR at the same time. I would like to hear the effects also into the real cab and if I move the effects after the IR Loader I won't hear through my amp. Yes, you are right.. but I'm using loop1 and send2 blocks for 4CM and now I have to use 2 more blocks for IR loader with Y split routes.. The result is that I have only 5 blocks left (and no parallel routing as long as I have to use the Y splitter for the 2 IR blocks). So this is a hard limit to me.. If Line6 won't implement stereo IR, in this situation the only solution is to use a different device to load the IR and feed the PA. Thanks anyway!1 point

This not an update to the Big Pack, but a new pack. Will work in Native of course, in fact I tweaked some of the presets in Native Just a new version of The Wall Pt 1, with a drone added, in the new pack1 point

Still no Customtone section for the Spider V series amps? Most people want to use their computers to download user sounds into their amps because a computer has a much bigger screen to edit the downloaded patches if that's not the case why do all the other Spider series amps have a Customtone section to download user sounds? This omission of huge error on the part of Line 6 and I know I'm not the only one who has requested a Customtone section for the Spider V series amp ...please fix !!!1 point

Here are some quick pictures. The names are pretty much self-explanatory, but if you have any questions, fire away. I wasn't able to locate the carrying strap I made from the Micro Spider handle, but one of the pictures shows the hook & loop connection on the side of the Amplifi 30. If I find the strap, I'll show what it looks like attached to the amp. Edit: I see that the filenames don't show up. So here's a brief description. Picture 1 -- Amplifi 30 inverted and snugly fitting in the case, with power supply and cables at the bottom of the cooler. If you're not comfortable with the snug fit, the blue hard plastic liner comes out, which will make for a looser fit, but also result in less protection from impacts. The liner is slightly tapered, so the amp will not go all the way to the bottom, which leaves some storage space for accessories below. Exterior view, showing Velcro closure strap and external pocked, good for cables, capo, etc. Bottom storage area. This tray is designed to fit at the top, to separate what you put up there from the contents on the bottom. (Nominally, beer or soda cans...) I've inverted it so that it fits nicely around the amp's perimeter and keeps it centered in the blue plastic shell. The 2" heavy duty hook & loop connection for securing the carrying strap/handle. The PODHD500 is not a plug in, turn on, and it sounds great type of unit. The presets suck and you have to learn how to configure the tones you want. This will take time and it will sound really good once you figure it out. Just be patient and ask questions.1 point

I’m not sure if you are interested in out-board gear, but that sound is exactly what the Earthquaker Devices Rainbow Machine does:1 point

Adding IR just makes it seem like people bought the wrong unit or are busy trying to obtain the unobtainable.1 point

Come on guys.. this is 2016. The average 500 dollar computer comes with 8-12 gb of RAM plus a quad core processor. I don't care if you are recording at 96khz, 2-3 minutes of record time at most is going to maybe use a few hundred mb. For 1500 bucks, we should not have to slice and dice like this. That is the reason we spent 1500 bucks. Side note, I bought mine from guitar center and I am still within the 45 day return limit. I am on the fence about it. Anyways, just seems like 100-200 mb should be drivel in todays world at this price point. Those that make the argument that they would rather have the extra memory for their effects are missing the point. My zoom g5 cost me $260 after discount, and it records 60 seconds, plus it lets me layer over that. Just saying... I get that the extra time does not help you, but that is not what this is about. I am a mostly clean player. Most of the hard core distortion rigs don't help me either, and I would love to exchange them for better looper, more effect options (killer envelope filter, etc..). That's not how this works though. Still, at the 1500 dollar price point, you shouldn't have to sacrifice 1 or the other imo...1 point

First, if it takes a rocket scientist to run a multi effects pedal than it has failed its objective. For those of you who think that spoon feeding or codling is the only help you can give, than you really are not helping anyone. IF you have to spend half your life to get a good tone for one song-- what is the point. You dont pay 50,000 for a car or truck to take a college coarse on how to start it up and drive it. 2000.00 is a proce of a near top end amp that you can turn on and tweek with no effort. Line6 , in offering this product needs to do much better to get people to first base based on the scenario of the rig they might be using, or at least be right up front that the only way to use this properly is by buying yet another pieced of equipment in the form of another 1000.0o FRFR. Muscians, not computer and sound engineering geniuses, want to play. They want to easily use a multi effects unit to get to a storable, usable, and recallable preset in a reasonable amount of setup time. If it is impossible to get to that point than the solution offered by line6 is not practical and way too complicated . My occupation is one of engineering in a controls environment, so I am not without having to learn software and such based systems. Nothing is working, not even through an FRFR at the local music store. In fact the number f product returns is mounting. Now, the fact that some are able to get this thing to a tamed position means that the knowledge is there. So , unless line6 wants to wait for its competition to bury them in this sens, I want to suggest that they start to listen to the hundreds of users complaining all over the internet about the same issue- harshness and unusable amp models. And please, no more helpful suggestions that the hundreds of us need to grow up and expect to spen months, or better yet, to pay to learn how use a solution on what otherwise is being ushered as the next best thing to sliced bread.-1 points
