  2. I've had success with the UNO and MIDISport 2x2.

  3. Here's a video comparing the Helix's Minotaur model to the Klon KTR, which is technically more of a Klon than the Tumnus... FWIW, I've gotten rid of nearly every overdrive and/or distortion pedal I own since having the Helix and now HX Effects. I've had all sorts of Klones, the Timmy, and a bunch of other more boutique-y drive. I don't really feel I'm missing anything. The only one I've held onto is the Wampler Dual Fusion, and even with that I'm very close to getting rid of it. The main reason I keep is for on my HX Effects board, and I think there is some utility in having one external drive to make quick adjustments.

  4. You win. Hanging up the guitar destroyed it. Don't play it... it might burst into flames next.

  5. This is great advice.. I too have had 2 AX8 models while owning my Helix LT (thought I was missing something in the Helix)..AX* does have a slightly more "liquid" feel (VERY slight)..The key here is Custom IRs..Ownhammer (just liek SonicDrive Studios uses, of course there are others) was a game changer /field leveler. I became very good at editing Ax8 tto, but just found the differences between the 2 tonally were very little, AND the UI on the Helix alone is one of the most inspiring things I've experienced. Either unit can achieve AMAZING and inspiring tones, Helix has a nicer onborad screen, oh yeah, and SNAPSHOTS!!!!!! Presets within a preset to turn on and off anythign you want..possibilities are crazy with Helix. one more thing, Helix and Helix LT have the exact same processor and tones, period. Just a few less ins & outs (still more than you could ever need) ANyone telling you one blows the other away (AXe vs Helix) is giving their opinion. I have recorded tracks that none of the guys in both of my bands could tell the difference between the 2.

  6. You asked for a luthier's opinion so... Yes. A maple board can make a significant audible difference, especially compared to a rosewood board. There are at least a few people who I greatly respect that disagree with me on this. So take my advice with a grain of salt. Rosewood tends to sound darker with more sustain. Maple tends to sound brighter and snappier. Of note, neck stiffness = tone. Also it is true that the "heart" of the solid body is the neck/slab connection. If the neck and slab aren't properly coupled, (which means a wood to wood, friction press fit that is bolted securely) your overall tone and sustain will suffer. My JTV 69 sounded quite dark. The stock neck had a rosewood board. Was going to replace it anyway, so I installed one of my custom necks which is maple on both the shaft wood and the board. When I removed the stock neck, I discovered that the neck pocket on the slab was completely finished over. There was a thick layer of paint and clear over it, which had to be removed prior to installing my new neck. Removing all that crap from the pocket and installing the neck which is all maple construction really brightened it up, but not enough for me. I'll be putting in a new bridge pup to further enhance the high and high mid, while minimizing the lows on the guitar. Bottom line as it pertains to tone: Neck stiffness matters. Wood type matters. Hope that helps. Good luck to you.

  7. I went from an X3L to Helix LT myself, no way I'd go back. I too was concerned about this but trust me (or don't, find out for yourself) it's way better. I had all 60 songs in our cover band loaded onto 2 banks of the X3L, also 2 presets for church going straight into FOH & didn't think I could do it. It ended up being uber easy, now I can do multiple things with just one button (instead of trying to pedal dance delays, ODs, etc) without even thinking about it live. That impossible solo Slash does halfway through Sweet Child 'O Mine where he engages the wah on the fly? Now I can do it by simply moving the EXP pedal past 5%. The 3 different delays Neal Schon uses on Don't Stop Believing? No problem. You couldn't do that on your X3L. I also have the ability to control my amp's channel switching per preset, very useful in a cover band! It takes some work; you have to get your hands dirty, but it pays off very quickly. There are a ton of knowledgeable folks here, as well as YT vids explaining many things. Just start with one basic preset sound that you like, then build on it. Let HX edit make it easy to copy/paste blocks or even entire presets. BTW, FWIW I'll be 60 next month- not a real quick learner. If I can do it anyone can. I was building homemade Fuzz Faces with Carbon Comp resistors & Germanium transistors not long ago & this technology has helped me tremendously. Good luck & if I can help you at all please post, If I can I'll share anything I've learned.

  8. Ahh what a bummer, looks like the 500 driver is MASSIVELY crippled compared to the older POD XT drivers and the toneport drivers. Line6 seriously, what's with all the backwards steps? The Firehawk and Amplifi have worse drivers in every single way than the older drivers. I'm getting to the point where I am about to remove Line 6 products from my FAQ's and recommendations. raiyanhrid. OK, so as silverhead said, just make a dry patch Turn "hardware monitoring" off, all the way to the left on your "inputs and recording" tab of the line 6 driver control panel Ad a track in REAPER, arm it, set it to input 1, and turn on the monitor icon for that track. Unless Line 6 COMPLETELY blew it on this driver and actually stepped back more than a decade (which at this point, and man, I'm really, really disturbed by this, wouldn't actually surprise me), this should work out perfectly

  11. I also started with only Helix cabs and after 6 months or so decided to give ir a chance. Actually they all sounded really horrible so I forgot about them, wondering what I was doing wrong. Since most people on this forum are wild about them. Than after another couple of months tried again. At first I was blown away, the ir teally sounded much better (never found out why the were crap the first time). But then I found that de ir was much louder than the Helix cab and knowing that louder often sounds better I adjusted the cab to match the Helix cab. Then all the magic went away. It still sounded good but really not better than the Helix cab. In the end I decided it wasn't worth the bother for me. I agree. Being able to use ir greatly enhances the possible choices and thats absolutely great! But in my opinion the Helix cabs are just as good or at least really good enough. Try the volume matching and judge for yourself!
