  1. Hi p8guitar, The information given above by “silverhead” is correct, but as you appear to have inadvertently downloaded the wrong software for your PC, may I suggest that you do a completely fresh download from the Line 6 site. Firstly, using your currently installed version of HX Edit - make a backup of the stuff from your Helix. Now, from the Line 6 downloads page, you should select HX Edit under the All Software tab and then whatever version of Windows you are using from All OS on the dropdown menus. This will take you to the correct download page. This is the only thing you need to download. When you install HX Edit it will also install the latest Line6 Updater v1.14 and any other drivers etc., that you may need. After the new HX Edit software has been installed, reboot your computer. Doing a clean install should clear any glitches that were linking to any old versions of the software. When you’ve done this, ensure HX Edit is shutdown, then launch the new Line 6 Updater v1.14, click the about button to check the details. If all your connections are good the Updater should see your Helix. You can now proceed with the firmware upgrade, over your internet connection. Do not disconnect or turn off the power to your Helix during this process. When completed your Helix will reboot and rebuild the presets, then you are good to go, no hardware reset is required. Hope this helps.

  2. So now there's HIRB, a Helix IR Browser, lets you see which presets use the IRs contained in a collection of Helix setlist files. Purely browser based, nothing to download or install Doesn't modify your files, just shows information about them Doesn't upload them, processing happens right in the browser Pretty much zero risk, can't corrupt your files or anything Hopefully it's pretty self-explanatory, ask here (or on TGP) if not, I'll be around when I can be. One caveat: This does look at snapshots, switches, even continuous controllers. However, it has no way of knowing whether a patch is intended to use 4 snapshots or 8, so if snapshots are in play, it'll report the IRs for all of them, even ones you never use. I think it's not really an issue, but I (or someone?) need to do more research on how snapshots you've never accessed report themselves. Copious free time... Another thing. Frank from Line 6 was going to post about this on the FB Helix group, but I'm not on FaceBook and don't want to be. So, could you guys who are be my eyes and ears there, let me know if folks there have any great ideas I should know about, hit problems, find it useful/useless, etc.. Let me know what you think.

  4. Hey Guys, Today I walk through the tone used in the song Snakes by my band/project, The Partisan Component using the Line 6 Helix and Ownhammer Impulses. The chain is as follows: PRS SE Tremonti with Fishman Fluence Modern pickups -- Line 6 Helix Rack using Ownhammer Impulses -- Universal Apollo Twin -- Presonus Studio One 3 My Band | The Partisan Component https://thepartisancomponent.bandcamp... https://fanlink.to/TQv

  5. The loop itself should not be the problem... it is likely items (or cables) placed in the loop. Simply run a cable between the send/return and see if there is any signal loss or loss of high end. If it sounds pristine, add an effect to see what happens. When you add something and your sound degrades, you have found the culprit. If it degrades with just a cable make sure you try a few other cables as well. If they all fail the test, I guess there is a possibility something is wrong with the loop, or the settings in the loop.

  6. You use the Line 6 Updater program to update Helix firmware. Make sure you download the latest Updater program. Actually you don't need to download the Helix firmware file (the hxf file you mention) at all. The Updater program will download and install it for you. But since you've already downloaded it you can save a few seconds of your life by using the Install from File option in Updater.

  7. Sounds like an Amplifire Box. But it’s not part of the helix family.

  8. Hi, The best place to start is to follow the advice given above, from “Digital Igloo”, who suggests reading about the subject in the owner’s manual. Page 28 Helix Owner’s Manual Failing that, Jon from SDS posted a video guide in this forum way back in Feb 2017. Follow these examples and you can’t go wrong. 9. I've been using Bandhelper for a few months now, nothing but praise for it. And a big plus for me is the support from the creator via his website and a really helpful forum. What's not to like...?

  10. Hi, new here but would love to see some kind of infinite sustain (with feedback) effect. Fernandes sustainer for example.

  11. My gigging setup is pretty simple - don't have a photo. I use two JBL EON610's placed behind me where a traditional backline would be. I run the Helix 1/4" outputs into the 610's and run full stereo. I use a Variax JTV-69S most of the time and a Strat Deluxe and my Les Paul as backup (never thought it would come to that, but I like that Variax in a lot of ways - go figure). For FOH, I take the Helix XLR outputs directly into two channels of an SD16 digital snake head into an X32-Core. The X32-Core is in a four-rack space that sits on top of my two 610s, with the computer on top of that. So my guitar and the whole PA takes up the same space as a relatively small traditional guitar amp. I have nothing going into Helix except an A/B switch to switch between the Strat and Les Paul, the Variax goes in through VDI. My backup rig is MainStage with S-Gear and a bunch of plugins from various sources for front of the amp effects. I drive this with an Apogee GiO and use pretty much the same effects and amp setup as with Helix. Frankly S-Gear is the real deal. I'd be tempted to gig with this all the time, but Helix has a lot more options, especially with a Variax. I didn't want to use a computer based solution because of complexity and reliability. But since we've been using an X32-Core and an old 2011 MacBook Pro 13" (my son's old college computer) to run the PA, I've become less concerned about computer reliability. A good MacBook Pro with X32Edit wirelessly into X32-Core is a very nice PA option. I use IEMs (GorillaEars) out of two SD16 outputs into a headphone amp. My mix is pretty specific because I have problems with my ears and need to keep levels very low. I mostly rely on bleed for drums and bass, and feed just a bit of keys, vocals and my guitar into the IEMs. Takes some getting use to, but my ears won't tolerate anything else. All that great tone potential and I don't get to hear it! Take care of your ears, you'll really regret it if you don't. Don't be in denial. That never works.

  12. A great addition for the wish list would be for the Helix to be able to have something similar to DigiTech FreqOut Natural Feedback Creator. VERY cool

  13. I personally would love to see a feedback control. I envision it as a block that can be added to manipulate musical feedback while playing. Whether it is a latching foot switch to be held down when feedback would be activated, or just a setting that allows for the desired amount/ease of feedback to be conjured. Do others agree? I'd be curious if this is possible or desired beyond my tiny existence. Thanks!
