  1. Variax models, volume, tone, and string tunings are all parameters of the input block. Like any other parameter, these can be assigned to controllers: buttons, expression pedals, snapshots, MIDI messages, etc. So for example, you can use a footswitch to control the tuning of the B string to create a B-bender effect. I addition, Variax volume and tone can be used as controllers for other Helix parameters. The Variax is a fantastic gigging concept. If Line6 did two things, it would be much better: 1) allow the creation of a Variax model that exposes the raw piezo pickups so we can leverage instrument IRs in Helix with Variax and 2) create HX versions of the models with more instrument choices to improve the quality and variety of instruments available.

  2. Pretty complicated, all that routing stuff... But clear answer, so I keep my IEM as I have it know, thanks for the help!

  3. The line that contains the IR also contains a cab block, this is used only for my clean sound and the IR is bypassed when thats in use. 1/4" line gets all signal except for whats in the IR and cab line. The 1/4" line also gets an eq that has 4k cut a little so real cab has less harshness and no ear fatigue(definitely worth doing this guys) Noise gates are at proper settings, also tried bypassing these to make sure nothing was getting choked.

  4. ok,heres my screenshot of my preset that contains snapshots for clean, heavy etc. The pic shows my heavy snapshot that has 2 amps engaged and clean amp bypassed. Hope this makes more sense guys

  5. The only reason to bother with the 4CM is if you want to have the option of getting your basic tone from the Spider, as opposed to the amp models in the Stomp. If you have no intention of doing that, then the 4CM only accomplishes 1 thing: using more cables, lol. If the amp is to be used only for power, and assuming it has an FX loop, then just run straight from the Stomp into the FX return, NOT the front of the amp.

  6. Yep, MIDI Solutions stuff relies on power through the MIDI cable. I don't like that, because it's using the voltage diff between the MIDI signal lines and the the MIDI ground, and stealing power from the data signal. Some setups will work with it without a hitch, but some won't. If no one chimes in who owns one and a Stomp to test it, you could check the MIDI cable pins with a volt meter coming out of the Stomp and see if its providing enough power (~ 5V). Look online to figure out which pins to check. And make sure you have a money-back guarantee if you buy the solution in case it sucks. I sent mine back because it didn't work with half of my stuff. If it doesn't work, I found and bought this PCB board for $15 https://midisizer.com/midithru/midithru-original/ which provides 5 outputs compared to the MIDI Solutions 2, and ordered the parts listed in the Bill of Materials (there aren't very many of them and you can get them cheap from online electronics stores like Mouser or DigiKey). I can't remember my total cost, but it was around $35. Its a simple project, and if you know how to solder, you're good to go. If not, ask your geeky friend. You'll end up with 1 MIDI input, and the unit splits that into 5 MIDI outputs. It uses an external power supply (wall wart kind). It works flawlessly, and I've used it for years.

  7. Found the Hex wrench hidden in the USB bag that I had not opened. I think I am good to go now. Thanks for your experience!

  8. Hi, No problem and easily done. As for Stomp - well, it’s absolutely great at doing what it was designed for.

  9. Hi Macnevine, As I understand it, you can't do what you want exactly. The video above is for the rack not the floor unit. This pedal model acts exactly as the onboard expression pedal on the floor but for the rack. So (and you might not notice it if you don't actually stand on it because it's very heavy and needs a bit of body weight) the onboard expression unit is the one with a toe switch. So if you want it to work just like a typical Wah, the onboard pedal will do this - just put a wah in you chain and by default, using the toe switch will activate the wah. Obviously in a patch where you don't need wah, it can be anything else you want. That means you need another expression pedal to take over the job of volume pedal. (somehow, someone must have thought that not having volume control when using wah was a reasonable compromise!?!) There are 2 line 6 Helix compatible Mission pedals - just to confuse everyone - one is designed for the rack - as above, the other is a general expression pedal. But it doesn't do the toe switch. No problem for volume - a bit counter intuitive for wah. Some would maintain that some of the older heavy duty Volume pedals are actually nicer for volume anyhow (acting as an expression pedal in Helix land).

  10. In theory, an IR could turn an acoustic guitar into a banjo. However, variation the source (guitar construction, pickups, etc.) don't provide a standard acoustic guitar tone that the IR could use as a consistent source. So in practice, this would be difficult. A Variax is your best option.

  11. Just to say that at 27/11/2018 This fix Ronald_Unzain sugested is still working, i didn't found the transistor as is at México i found an equivalent which is the "BC547-B" I just changed this transistor and Wah is back online in 10 minutes, did it by my self and by the way the "R30" component helps to change the Wah color, making it more dark o light (for my ears) so i did an adjustment there too... THANK YOU VERY MUCH RONALD You can find this transistor at México here... https://www.steren.com.mx/transistor-de-peque-a-se-al-npn-45-vceo-0-1-ic.html

  12. There are instrument IRs just like there are Cabinet IRs. The acoustic guitar IRs I have seen work ok to simulate an acoustic on an electric, especially if that electric has a piezo pickup. I have seen violin and cello IRs for sale, but I don't remember where. I have a mandolin IR that I use in helix that I like fairly well. I use it in conjunction with my Variax guitar. I set the Variax up in workbench as an acoustic 12 string, I tune the high strings like a mandolin, turn off the low E and A, and send it through my mandolin IR. I suspect you could do something similar with a banjo IR if you could find it. Although none of the IRs I have heard sound "exactly" right, they are certainly ok depending on the situation. Rock on! 13. I'm with'ya on this. When I'm looking/ auditioning a reverb, delay or whatever, I not only don't I care if it's legacy or whatever... I generally have no idea nor do I care. I'm scrolling through listening... now I apparently have two lists to scroll through instead of one. It's not a big deal, just seems silly to me. If (like me) you never owned one of the Legacy devices, having them on a separate list seems like a pointless concept. They are all models.

  14. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Kalthallen Cabs. http://cabs.kalthallen.de/kalthallen_free.html There are a Ton of them . I also bought some OH's. I've tried them all but in the end I've gone back to the Line 6 cabs in the Helix. Honestly, With a Line 6 Cab and the Parametric EQ you can match any IR you want if you have a good enough ear. For those who don't have the ear for that or maybe you haven't developed that yet you can use the Voxengo Curve EQ http://www.voxengo.c...roduct/curveeq/) to "sample" the sound you want and then use the Parametric EQ in the Helix to Mimic that sound. My Go-To cab in the Helix is the Rhino 4x10. It's very Beefy like a 4x12 cab but it might be a little dark for some so you can use the Low Cut in the Cab settings and also if needed you can throw a Simple EQ right before or after the cab to brighten it up a bit to your taste. Give it a try. It's so so different from Any of the other cabs in the Helix!!

  15. The Stomp doesn’t have the Command Center like other Helix products do, so it’s very limited as far as sending MIDI commands. The only thing it can do is send PCs when changing presets and send MIDI clock. There’s no way to assign MIDI commands to footswitches in Stomp Mode (or any mode, for that matter).
