I only reason I can think of for not updating the firmware is the specific case where 2.6 (I think) changed the output level of the new reverbs that were introduced in 2.5. I had to go through all my presets that used those reverbs and change the mix and level parameters. It was a bit tedious but definitely worth the effort.

As I recollect, Line 6's Eric Klein aka Digital Igloo posted recently that the HX Stomp's headphone subsystem does not have the full power of the Helix units. I have a pair of open back Sennheiser HD650 (since this summer) and enjoy using them. I have found them quite comfortable to wear for long sessions. I also have several closed back units from Sony (MDR-V6) and BeyerDynamic (DT770 250Ω) and enjoy them as well. Each of the above works well with my Helix Floor. I have a HX Stomp on order and can report back once it arrives.

Hi, I just bought a Spider V 60, and really like it. I was disappointed to find the PC Remote app doesn't have any of the tone sharing features the iPad app has though. Is this something that's in development, or does Line 6 perhaps have some kind of exclusivity deal with Apple? I'm perplexed as to why it's available in one, but not the other. I'd much rather use my desktop mouse with one hand over picking up an iPad and swiping around with both hands.

Agree 100%... mine are Chinese made as well. Amazing clarity, for any purpose... playing. recording, mixing, or passive listening. They cover your ears completely (unless you're Dumbo, ;) ), and are quite comfortable to wear for long sessions. My only real gripe is the cushions... mine got kinda grungy after about 18 months of (almost) daily use. AKG demands an absurd $40 for replacement pads, but I found compatible aftermarket ones on Amazon for $18. They fit perfectly, and are just as comfy.

I also own a pair of these, along with a set of Oppo PM-3s, and a pair of Focal Elears. The AKG K701s are among the clearest sounding cans you'll find in the under $500 price range. They are very close to reference, and many people criticize them for lacking bass. Most headphones today over emphasize bass and sometimes treble. These do not, what you hear from these is very close to what the signal actually is, they will need to broken in to sound their best, 100 hrs. or so. One more thing, they're no longer being made in Austria, like most other things these days, they're made in China. The pair I have are Chinese made, they still sound incredible so I doubt there's a percievable difference.

Thanks a lot for the detailed posts here! It finally arrived and I did some testing today. So, directly going into the power amp in is the best option for me here. When going directly in the amp (where the guitar usually goes), or using the 4cm, both methods the moddeling of the Spider Valve mess up the sound. But going into the power amp... GREAT sound! :)

I'd say that I wouldn't be surprised if they did offer a discount to Stomp/Effects users at some point. Unlike hardware, there's practically no cost of sale on software, so any additional money you get in is effectively gravy. Obviously, you need to recoup your development and support costs and turn a profit, but it costs very little to give something back to users who have invested elsewhere in your product line, and by doing so you may also tie these users further into your product lines.

I play mainly small clubs where both physical space and musical space is limited. My current lineup is a HX Stomp running into a SD-170 with a Friedman Dirty Shirley 1X12 open back Cabinet loaded with a Celestion cream back . The SD-170 is plugged into the Send which is placed (in parallel) before the cab module but after the other fx blocks in the signal chain. The balanced output (L/MONO) is then fed directly to the house mixing board with cab emulation. This allows me to control my stage volume and tone independently from the house mix. So far its been working out great.

Fighting with controlling Native with hope I can take that setup on stage was stupid :D Further - if you think of any connectivity like tube amp, fx loop - small cheap interfaces are useless. USB powered - forget about it! And for years we have been taught that DSP power is that "real profesional computing power". Hx Native was the first piece of software to abadon that myth. I am so glad that Line6 did not go the road of treating SHARCs as anti-piracy dongle for their software.

Native is a winner for me. Even though I got my Helix Rack before they released Native. The updates /improvements they have done with the Helix lineup cements me into not even remotely thinking of going with an alternative route for my needs. Native is probably the single largest contributing factor. The Helix platform is fantastic for me as a studio musician, and mixing engineer. Native paired with the hardware makes Helix in a class of It's own.

No and Yes. It can somewhat help. You can put as many Hx Native instances in between Hx Stomp/LT/Floor/Rack DSP paths as your CPU can handle. Hardware seems to have much less DSP power comparing to CPU but has ultra low latency, great analog audio quality and CONTROL (Floor, LT). Going thru the computer adds 3-7ms of latency (with the right driver used). Hovever connecting Hx Stomp/LT/Floor/Rack just to have more Helix DSP blocks (by adding instances) makes no sense for me. There are so many great plugins which give you completly new possibilities.

Unless you're running a waaaaaay under powered computer you shouldn't have too much of an issue other than loading whatever IR is supposed to be in a paid-for preset. Native is designed with a built-in limitation to match the hardware so you can move patches between Native and LT/Floor.

Yes, and I should mention that the mix parameter is different in the Helix. Having the mix knob at 7.8 on the DL4 (which, I have to say, you're pretty good if you can translate a position on a rotary knob down to a tenth :-) ) would be equivalent to having the mix at 39 or so on the Helix. The mix knob on the DL4 goes from 100% dry to 100% wet, sort of like the reverb knob on an amp. The mix knob on the Helix controls the balance between the wet and dry signals, with 50 being 100% wet and 100% dry. The Auto Volume Echo is one of the rare delay effects that actually affects the dry signal, so I'm not exactly sure if the mix is scaled in a linear way between the DL4 and Helix versions.

Someone on this forum posted that they use the mic pre to help with that tube feel. Works pretty good. Agreed on seeing new ways of processing. All in all, yes I can use the full amp modeling and it's great. I just wish we could have something like...EL84s, KT66s, EL34s, 6V6s kind of the way Torpedo CAB, Amplifirebox and Mooer are doing it.

The Auto Volume Echo is in the Legacy folder under the delay menu in the Helix. It’s the same thing as the Auto Volume Echo on the DL4.

I have just ordered the HX Stomp. I let go of a TC Electronics G System and a Nova System. I'm fairly sure the Stomp will outdo both my previous units. I will be building a pedalboard around the HX Stomp and will be using an outboard compressor and tube distortion. I will probably run the Stomp through my Vox MV50 Clean.

No - HX Edit versions generally move in lock-step with Helix Firmware versions. You will not be able to use HX Edit v2,70 with a Helix device running firmware v2.50. However, it is simple and not risky to revert to HX Edit v2.50 (including associated driver and Line 6 Updater program) to replace an installed HX Edit v2.70.

Dude if Mooer can cram 4 power amp models that are pretty decent in the Radar pedal, Line 6 can do it. It's silly that I can't just use power amp simulation with a cab or IR of choice, but can use their preamp with something external.

Using both connectors while using Monkey (for updates, the battery engage to give two green LED's) or Workbench is in a programming state, shouldn't be a problem. It's in the audio operations of playing that can add stress to the circuit.

That said, with the MC6 you can probably "mimic" more snapshots. With one single press you can send up to 16 midi CCs. Enough to control 16 different parameters on the HX stomp, and so create a "fake snapshot"...

Yes I’m trying to save the channel volume. I’ve figured it out though. For some reason, it will save if I adjust the channel volume using the actual volume knob. But if I try and adjust it while in the edit screen using the rotary knob, it won’t save.

I suppose that's possible. Howling is usually a feedback problem, so I'd ficus on that (although it is a simple experiment to switch those GND switches. Another idea, use headphones instead of the Yamaha speakers. Does it howl with that? It maybe feeding back from external speakers to microphonic pickups on your guitar.

Come-on Line6, don't be that stubborn and make the SpiderV-tonecloud available on a PC as well. For God sake, where is the problem?

yes - please Line6 - it's nearly a year after I bought a v120 - and still no cloud tones in the PC app....
