  1. Why is a guy demo-ing a guitar speaker without having someone actually play a guitar through it? Why SAY this is different than the TS312 without actually running music through both? This has to be one of the stupidest AND most useless YouTube reviews EVER!

  2. The deeper I get into the helix the more things occur to me. I use the bandhelper app on my ipad to scroll lyrics and to choose presets for me on my helix. For years I've been using the irig blueboard to control functions on bandhelper over Bluetooth. But after a bit of experimenting, and I should give part of the credit to the capabilities of bandhelper, I found that it's possible to control whatever functions I want in bandhelper via the footswtiches on the helix over the usb cable that is connected anyway. The problem now is, I use a different preset for every song, so I have hundreds and between 2 bands actively use at least a hundred with another 20 or 30 songs on standby that we may pull out for certain situations. So it's going to be a tedious task. I have 6 commands that I need to assign to footswitches in every patch I expect to use at a gig. Currently all I've been able to figure out is to copy a single footswitch function and the copy that to all my other presets… which means I'll have to do that function 6 times. The copy and paste function is all or one. I can't highlight 6 and then go into the next preset highlight the same 6 and then paste them. Does anyone know of any ideas that might help? I'd be happy with a global paste, like to every preset within a setlist or even the entire device.

  3. Simon 268 is his User Name. "Just Startin'" is a user description assigned by the forum based on some formula or other. For instance, you are also "Just Startin"", with 27 posts and 2 upvotes. I'm a "Gear Head" with 973 posts and 166 upvotes. Kilrahi is "Iknowathingortwo" with 349 posts and 72 upvotes. Gunpointmetal is a "Power User" with 1100 posts and 337 upvotes. You get the picture. To all - this might be a good place to consider not posting anything that takes this from "due respect" to "overtly political". Just sayin'.

  4. I've owned 3 PA/FRFR speakers over the course of owning the Helix. A JBL Eon 610, An Alto 312, and now the Headrush FRFR112. To my ears, the Alto sounds a little less accentuated in the mids. Seems as if the Headrush is tuned for guitar more. I liked all 3, but I sold the Alto 312 and only kept the JBL, so unfortunately I could not post an A/B comparison. I will say this, I love the Headrush for the money, and it reproduces exactly what is put through it. I've had a Kemper run through it as well, just to convince a friend to buy it as a cheaper alternative to a Friedman. My take would be for you to buy it and try it. $299 is a great price point for something that actually does what it says it is made for. I do agree with the above post about getting it off the ground though. Reduces the bass response some to eliminate some of the boominess. Great sounding speaker for the Helix though.

  5. For me, that would be a reason to buy it and fix it, since I know these amps intimately. If only I had the time and space to do that. I wish it was easier for you like that. These are cool amps, just ask Steve Howe of Yes, or Roland Orzabal of Tears for Fears, they each have two DT50-212 amps.

  6. That leaves me with one last conclusion,... he sold it because of this problem.

  7. To contrast, I'm 58 but I work mostly with 25-35s, and the huge majority of them really love our Country, and really respect us Vets and thank us for our service regularly. Your story was GREAT, thanks for that, and thanks for your Service! I guess that the only guilty feelings us later vets have is that our Vietnam-era "big brothers and sisters" really got the shaft, while we were treated as heroes from the beginning. However--to stick with this thread--an open box means that someone probably tried it out. I try not to be too picky, since I'm gonna take it out of the box, throw it on the floor, and start stomping it straight-away! That, and the 2-yr warranty--I feel pretty good about these things--I own two of them--one for the stage, and one as a backup.

  8. Transformer for your area should be available, just don't know the distributors on that side of the Atlantic. Might try logging a Support Ticket, the Support people covering that region should respond.

  9. It won't because of the amp and cab but I can give you the FX settings. Signal chain from left to right: Script Mod Phase: Rate 1.5, Mix 50%, Level +1.0cB Gray Flanger: Rate 4.0, Width 4.0, Manual 4.0, Regen 10.0, Mix 50%, Level 0.0dB Transistor Tape Delay: Time 218ms, Feedback 0%, Wow Flutr 3.6, Mix 13%, Level +6.0dB, Headroom 0.0, Trails off (this doesn't replicate the ending of Eruption, you have to use an expression pedal to help recreate that. That's it for in front of the amp. Only Plate reverb is used after the amp or pre-amp or however you want to say it. The guitar was originally recorded raw to the left side of the stereo spectrum with a plate reverb on the far right of the stereo spectrum. For most applications just put a plate reverb in your amp's FX loop. Plate Reverb: Decay 5.6, Predelay 29ms, Low Cut 89Hx, High Cut 4.6kHz (don't be afraid to go higher), Mix 38%, Level 0.0dB. I hope this helps you. Thank you for watching my YouTube video.

  13. I thought it should work the same as well. Same input etc. just unplugging the guitar and switching to Bass. Nothing! I can get a sound when I remove the helix and go direct to my DAW ( Logic Pro) via my Focusrite. If I had a flat battery I shouldn't hear the sound on my DAW? Right? I'm baffled. Thank you for taking the time to reply "shanecgriffo"

  14. Perhaps I'm just a neophyte or a or a cranially challenged hick, but in my opinion a lot of the "better" argument in sounds is just human snobbery. Case in point, I vastly prefer Coke to Sam's Club Cola (and the only use I have for a Pepsi is to pee in the bottle) - but if it was Sam's Club Cola that had been invented in the dirt of Pemberton's backyard in the 19th century I'd probably prefer that. When it comes to cola, I'm kind of a snobbish prick. At least I know it though. I hope the Coke Gods don't strike me dead for finally admitting my faith is built on bulllollipop. So it is with the sounds. Now, if you're talking about how close and accurate is the Helix to a Vox 30 compared to the old HD500x . . . well, that is a measurable scientific distance (though it brings up arguments of how much we can perceive) and I do tend to BELIEVE that the HX versions are pretty much perfect and far better than before. Maybe, though, it's a case of hearing what I expect to hear. Distortion is kind of a similar deal, if you're trying to mimic a classic distortion you can clearly have a model closer than another. However, when it comes to other things like plate reverb, I tend to believe a lot of those were pretty accurate from the very beginning. I mean, what about delays? A delay is a frigging repeat of your original signal a certain way. If the legacy effects did a delay THEN THEY DID A DELAY. Maybe you want a different kind of delay, different timing, more of them, etc. . . . but especially compared to the delays of the 70s there isn't that much to them. I guess with digital delays you can argue that if you REALLY go back far the quality of the repeated signal to the original was reduced, but we're talking about a signal that is typically masked in the background anyway, and to top it off, the much ballyhooed analog delays were never of great quality anyway. Tube and tape echoes were even worse and people gush all over them. So I guess my rant is that the legacy effects are pretty awesome. Supposedly they were beefed up in some digital way for the Helix line which makes them even better. When I have a similar HX version, I use it unless I am searching for a lower DSP option, but I have no problem using legacy effects if they're the only choice, and I'm glad they're there.

  15. Excellent work; you nailed it (programming and playing)! And thanks for making it available to us for free!

  16. A *very nice* VH1 patch, DarthHollis. Thank you for sharing it :-) I think what you did there is a great showcase for how good Helix really is. A simple chain, replicating what most people agree is probably what he did, and - there's the tone. Bang. No trickery, no frills. And it's good to see someone else not diming the amp because 'that's what Eddie did'... Patches dialled in by ear are better than those dialled in by hearsay :-) (Nerd-note: for Eruption, guitar sits centre-ish in the stereo mix, not hard over.)

  17. To add to this, the reason I didn't want to copy and past all commands was because I already had some commands in there for other things. But since I have realized it's going to be much easier to go back and make some adjustments on those as I go through this. I've decided to use that function. The problem now is, when I copy and paste "all commands" it doesn't include any of the customizations ie: the names I've put in the scribble strips. So I paste all to another preset, and all the names are either "note" if I have a midi note number assigned to that footswitch or "CC Toggle" if I have a control change assigned to the footswitch. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? That seems ridiculous.

  18. A little tip copy the flanger block and paste it first in the chain turned OFF and then create a momentary FS for the intro to ATBL

  19. This whole post was a very good explanation by codamedia on the approach. I just wanted to add that this is the way I did it when I originally set up my HD500X. The only difference was my amp was a Fender Twin '65 R. I had to use the Studio EQ at the front with a gain level of +12 to match them up with the Master 'all the way to 11!' So, if you've got the master all the way up and you don't hit the right level, this is another option. Follow codamedia's advice on this one....it's spot-on the best approach to this for the way you're using it.

  20. I too would be interested in that. Currently, you can link two of them together to get stereo, but I'm betting they could make a 2x12 that is cheaper than $1600.

  21. Agreed - the Helix reverbs are good enough for my live use but on my recordings I'm sticking to ValhallaRoom and Eventide Blackhole.
