  1. A good solution is to set the main L/R output -3dB and use a foot switch to boost back up to 0dB. This doesn't require a block (works well on HX Stomp) and makes sure that you aren't adding any gain, only removing a cut, to reduce the chance of downstream clipping. Using the channel volume is ok, but this changes the gain into any effect blocks that follow the amp block. I prefer to keep all the blocks pretty close to unity gain and do the boosting by removing a cut at the end of the signal chain. This way I'm sure that the lead boost isn't going to do anything but boost the volume, and all the blocks are getting an input that's hopefully close to their sweet spot. That said, you might prefer to have a lead boost that also adds a bit more distortion. A Kinky Boost block in front of the amp is a nice way to do this. Another option I've used is to set min and max drive levels with a footswitch. This is a different kind of lead boost, one that changes the volume and distortion voicing at the same time.

  2. You would probably get a flatter response. Traditionally guitar amps haven't been designed to be flat. MAYBE the Katana has a flat response option, but to my knowledge the only all in one amp series that does is the Spider V. The Katana does have an acoustic option, so maybe it has a more flat response approach. The acoustic setting might be a better setting because it will have more range than a standard electric guitar setting, but I don't know if it has a EQ layer plastered over it that would mess it up at all. Here's something to test. Plug in a music player in the auxiliary port and listen to how it sounds through the amp. Does it sound pretty true to form of how it would sound on a standard stereo system? If so then it means the Katana will handle it decently well.

  3. hey! thank you so much! actually a minute after I posted this topic I thought the same thing about trying the trial version before as well. but I'm so excited about what's coming out from my LT that I was anxious about getting the native for recording purposes. and surely I'll have a check if I can upgrade my Studio One to the latest version, but just don't know if I can upgrade for free...I'll have a check. best!

  4. If it's just a straight volume boost, you an assign the channel volume to a snapshot. Or you can assign a mid boost and channel volume. Really depends on how you want to "boost" it.

  5. For me, a 10" speaker worked best. When I was test driving the QSC K10.2 's, the 10" sounded way tighter than the 12". Also, I just wanted to emphasize that what Crusin said about the lows and the mids is spot on. One thing I've learned is, don't rely on the sound guy to fix your problems. Some sound guys are really good at EQ, while others are not. I encourage you to checkout some isolated guitar tracks on YouTube. You'll be amazed at how thin the guitars sound when they are isolated from the full mix.

  6. Trust me...at significant volume, you are going to find the need to use a low cut filter, even if you go with a 10" speaker. You're worrying way too much about about the low end. In a live setting, mids are your concern if you want to avoid disappearing fron the mix entirely. The extra low end that you might be tempted to dial in when playing unaccompanied at home at low volume, or during a test drive at a music store is NOT your friend in a live situation.

  7. All the JBLs I tried sounded off with guitar. I think the crossover is either a wider point or set higher up in the frequency spectrum so the highs felt "separate" from the rest of the guitar tone. the ZLX in "Monitor" setting sounded like I wanted to hear. Best bet is to try a few and see what clicks.

  8. EV ZLX 12P seems to be the current bang-for-the-buck option. I tried Alto, JBL, and new Mackies recently and the EV sounded really good and wasn't majorly expensive. You might wanna look into an ambiance mic instead of using one IEM out, too. Good way to defeat the purpose of IEMs is to have to keep turning them up to get over the stage sound. Or get some earbuds with less isolation.

  10. Wedge would be better than upright if you have to set it on the stage. It's going to do a better job of getting the sound into the room if you can get it up off the floor, though. If you just want if for some thump you might like wedge better anyways since you can feel it the floor.

  11. Patch your iRig Acoustic into it. Add a studio compressor, pre-amp, chorus, delay and reverb to suit. Enjoy!

  13. Try setting your input on the Stomp to "Line" (Global Settings; turn the Upper Knob to select the Ins/Outs submenu).

  16. It seems that you have successfully recorded the dry guitar track, which is the first step. Make sure that you assign the Helix Native plug-in to the track when you play it back in Pro Tools. Are you doing that? Are you presented with the Helix Native edit window so that you can create a non-empty preset? Using an empty New Preset will also sound like just the dry signal.

  17. Oh...don't worry about me. I'm just checking in to catch up on the drama going on in this thread. I gotta fill my time somehow until the final season of 'Game of Thrones' starts later this year.....

  18. Well this is embarrassing..... All that I needed to do was to connect the output from the Hx Effects to my amps Fx Return of the loop. What I did wrong was that I needed to start with having the Hx Effects connected in 4cm method already(which is why i left the output and amp's fx return open).

  19. You do understand that demanding "proof" of something that (by definition) cannot be quantified, or otherwise measured in any definitive/ objective way, is like to trying to pick up a turd by the clean end, right? Never mind... don't answer that, we've all wasted enough time already. You'll "win" the argument by default, because what you're demanding cannot be done. It's a half-clever (yet thoroughly obnoxious) means of seeking external validation for an already fully-formed opinion. And while it makes for some festive arguments, in the end it achieves nothing and helps no one. Your Congressman would be proud.... But what the hell, I'll bite....I posted the same clips a while back in a previous iteration of this retarded discussion. So as long as we're all intent on taking yet another ride on the stupidmobile, here ya go: Listen to This Really Needs A Title by cruisinon2 #np on #SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/user-100603322/this-really-needs-a-title Listen to Here Goes Nuthin' by cruisinon2 #np on #SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/user-100603322/here-goes-nuthin-final-edit Love it, hate it... either way, it's no skin off my a$$.

  20. Logic is logic my friend. You're just wanting to set me up for a game where I post something and no matter how hard I work on it you say, "I hate that." I didn't fall for those games in 3rd grade when a friend of mine preferred Caddyshack to Ghostbusters, and I'm not dumb enough to fall for it now. Find someone else to hurt on the teeter totter.

  21. My bad, Helix doesn't have balanced 1/4 outputs (my Focusrite 6i6 does). So TS is all you need for 1/4. Might hear some hiss as a consequence if you use 1/4 in, so XLR may work out better.

  22. Make sure if you use 1/4 connectors, you use balanced TRS connector cables or you'll get unwanted noise.

  23. You guys are probably right, thanks... It's just the gearhead in me... And I'll stay with a cable for the time being. Anyway, I received my Helix today... and it doesn't work ! Actually, it works for a few minutes, and then keeps rebooting until I shut it down. Did a few factory resets with no luck. Very frustrating for a unit of that price, especially since in those few minutes, I can hear it sound pretty darn good ! Apparently, at least one other person had the same issue (see the bugs thread). Opened a ticket with Line 6 support, I'll see what they say. Cheers, David

  24. Yes, it is 100% compatible. BUT the only difference is that the Foot-switches for the effects will ignite red instead of their color (like when used with the Firehawk 1500). Otherwise all functionality is identical.
