  1. My understanding is that this was more about the way the software was engineered, and that this limitation was lifted when they implemented the improvements to the tuner recently.

  2. Neutering is permanent... a default setting is more like a condom... just saying....

  3. Do you have a pic of your signal path?

  4. Eric from Line 6 has said that the Helix will probably get meters sooner or later, just that they want to make them foolproof so people don't get misled by them. I suspect this will include some notion of trying to understand the expected levels in and out of certain blocks so that they don't get a ton of complaints when things are working as intended but looks weird.

  5. I sincerely apologize for this comment - but I just can't help myself. I gotta say that this wins the Olympic Gold Medal for the weirdest question I've ever read on the Line 6 Forum.

  6. As opposed to what? If L6 didn't want you turning the unit off at the switch, then they would have had to either: 1) Provide you with a PC-style shutdown function. Or 2) Make it a point to say that you have to leave the thing on for the rest of your life. But since they haven't done either of those things, I think it's safe to turn it off...;)

  7. The Helix can definitely do what you want. You can also use the Helix to “reamp” your recorded dry signal. Also the purchase of a Helix floor will let you purchase Helix Native for $99. Helix Native is a plug-in version of the Helix so you would be able to reamp without the Helix Hardware (or use the plug-in on any recorded signal). One possible con beside price. The Helix is (IMHO) a pretty powerful and flexible piece of gear which results in somewhat of a learning curve for some users. Fortunately the Helix forum and the official Helix FB are very active with lots of helpful users.

  8. Yeah, it should be OK. Just make sure you have the inputs and outputs on the Space set to line level (you'd also want the outputs on the Stomp set to line level). If you leave things at instrument level, the Powercab wouldn't get very loud.

  9. Jason Sadites has some great tutorials on the Helix for various artist sounds. His insights have been a great help to me. It showed how much the Helix can do with the stock cabs and mics.

  10. Agree with Silverhead...IR's are not a magic bullet for anything in particular, and I've yet to see any that are marketed as artist-specific. Entire presets are crafted to mimic one player or another constantly, but there's a lot more to accomplishing that than just an IR. They're a bit of a time-saver (once you find a few you like, that is), as there are fewer parameters to mess with compared to a cab block, but that's about it.

  11. While IRs are useful I doubt that you will find one to be a magic elixiir that suddenly gives you the Mayer tone. You should be able to get close using stock cabs (along with everything else that defines his tone). Is your Mayer tone already close to the sound you want? If not I would look to your overall preset before expecting an IR to fix things.

  12. The advantage of using 'plug ins' when recording guitar, rather than external hardware, is that you can record a dry signal, listen to a processed signal - and record/change the processed signal at any point, I'm not familiar with the Helix floor unit, but it would need to send both dry and processed signals to the DAW to do what you want. I'd recommend going with a software option. Any audio interface that accepts instrument input will work for you. Any DAW (recording software) will work for you too. The only real difference between different DAWs is work flow and user interface.

  14. Typical Bluetooth latency is horrible... sometimes as much as 500ms. Totally unusable for this application.

  15. I had that same BT transmitter for awhile and was using it with BT earbuds in my workout room for my TV. Even with movies and whatnot, I could still notice the latency sometimes. It probably wouldn't be viable because of that for guitar.
