  1. All you need to do is connect standard midi cables to that breakout and the Helix. Wrong cable... That was MIDI to USB and is used to connect to a computer. The two MIDI plugs on that cable will not talk to each other because one in an input, the other an output. That is where it starts... then you need to get the midi implementation right. Once you have the proper cables hooked up, follow the video instructions. NOTE: Always remember, OUT of one device goes to an IN on another device. Never IN to IN or Out to Out. If you only need the Helix to control the Beat Buddy... then you should only need Helix OUT to Beat Buddy IN. (one cable) If you need it the other way around it would be Beat Buddy Out to Helix IN. (one cable) If you want two way communication, you need TWO midi cables... one flowing each way (two cables)

  3. I recently got hired for a guitar recording gig, and wanted to give the client a choice of guitar tones to pick from. This track is an attempt by me to decide on what to offer in terms of a metal guitar tone for the recording. I decided to share it as it might be of some value. The amps in the clip are all models in my Helix Rack, so it might be interesting to see how the Helix handles differences between models. The guitar used for this comparison is my Jackson SL7 with D'Addario NYXL strings and a Duncan Distortion bridge pickup. All amps are passing through my own custom-shot IR based on a Marshall 1960A with G12T-75 speakers, with a mix of two SM57s. The amps are dialled in similarly, but not always identically (I gave myself a few tenths on a few knobs to dial them in better toward the mix, but nothing is as much as one mark off). Gain is about 4 on all amps, bass is between 2 and 3, mids are around 5, treble and presence around 6-7. In all cases, I'm using an MXR 10-band EQ model for some tone shaping first, then a Klon Centaur model, into the amp of choice. There's a small touch of room reverb last in the chain in the Helix. There's no post-EQ or compressor on the guitar bus in Cubase. Here's the sound file on Soundcloud. 1. Friedman BE 2. Soldano SLO-100 3. PRS Archon 4. Peavey 5150 5. Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier 6. Revv Generator 120 The client chose the PRS Archon, by the way. Do you agree?

  4. And C4TH has confirmed that Instant Commands and External Amp Switching does indeed work on HXFX. Thank you C4TH!

  5. Yes it does. HX Effects with Blackstar Ht40, in my case.

  6. I did a quick search and came up with one hit. Not sure if this is it or not. If not, I did notice that they offer a Helix variant of this IR, which should be compatible with PowerCab. https://www.drbonkerssoundlab.com/product/dr-bonkers-guitar-cab-oddities-volume-5-flthy-1x12-guitar-cabinet-ir-collection/

  7. Well, that's normal behavior for unsigned software. I expect that from a fly by night company but not from a multi national company like Yamaha. Catalina has been released in October, Line6 should be well beyond that issue and done making the necessary adjustments. The procedure is pretty clearly explained here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/notarizing_macos_software_before_distribution What I was wondering was more "am I downloading the wrong version?" and the answer is no, I'm not not missing anything, Line6 is just sleeping on this.

  8. That's definitely not the intent, I can assure you. If you are in IR Mode, the IR will be applied to the the XLR output. There is one thing I can think that could cause what you're talking about. Input 2 can be set to Monitor Mode in the Global Settings, and if that's the case, it would bypass the speaker modeling or IR and just pass the input through.

  9. ^^^^This! Looks like the confusion was that because the breakout cable provided female In/Out ends that you still need a standard 5 pin MIDI cable(s) in addition to connect to the Helix. That was in the bolded blurb I included in my original post from the BeatBuddy manual but Codamedia honed in correctly on that as the remaining issue. My guess remains that once you have this hooked up you should be able to operate the BeatBuddy by footswitches from the Helix as well as synch the MIDI clock.

  10. Nah - missed that, sorry. So we're in pretty much a similar camp. Well, I use IRs for recording, too - but that's simply because my way of handling them is extremely comfortable and likely surpassing fooling around with HX Natives cabs (HXN is pretty slow to open whereas I don't need to open Logics Space designer at all to select IRs). Sure - but they're already made. Which might or might not be an advance. Sure - and that's what I used when I started out on the Helix. But maintaining one single IR block for me is just easier than dealing with a cab block plus an EQ. And the IRs I'm using live don't need any adjustment because I took care of that when mangling them already, so that adds to the comfort. I absolutely agree with that. The stock settings are quite strange here and there (not as bad as some of the stock amp settings, though... fortunately).

  11. It really has nothing to do with IR versus stock cabs. It has to do with someone that has experience mic'ing cabs and capturing it in an IR. If you have the same level of expertise as the person that captured the IR you could do it with Helix stock cabinets. It just takes a little more time to set it up.

  12. Long time no see, happy new year, decade and so forth! We made updates to to our library so it would be easier to upload your own Impulse responses to the library. Standalone impulses Once you are logged in to your account, (register here) select the file, give it a name and a nice description and you're set. Just to celebrate this new release, we added 1300 Impulses to the library! Check them out here If you need help on how to use an Impulse responses, we have a guide for you here We have also started reviewing cabinets (and microphones are coming soon) and you can read them here!

  13. Although it will probably take a while to work its way into available devices I am cautious about making specific prognostications about how quickly a new technology, or in this case an old one with a new and improved standard, will be adopted. I have worked for companies who have been burned by thinking they had years to respond to these changes only to watch them being adopted way more quickly than anticipated. I appreciate the OP bringing the new MIDI 2.0 standard to our attention. The auto-configuration capability is exciting, enabled by the addition of bi-directional communication. Between that and the new improved 32-bit resolution and more controllers we may see a more nuanced translation of string instruments like the guitar to MIDI(digital), hopefully without introducing too much programming complexity required. Improvements to MIDI have at least the potential to greatly improve tracking for guitar synthesis which even at its best I have still found to be occasionally glitchy and limited.

  14. Sorry. Unexpected behaviour due to a user losing his balance and accidentally hitting the wrong switch is not a bug. If you consider it a bug, the fix is already available. Stop hitting the wrong switch.

  16. Hi, This must be a simple problem unique to me. Because I can’t find any info on it anywhere. I just purchased a HX Stomp. I then purchased a couple preset packs (definitely jumped the gun on that as I didn’t even have HX Edit installed). I now have HX Edit installed and working for me. But I cannot find anywhere how to download the preset packs I purchased. I have looked all over....I think. But nothing. I sure I am overlooking something obvious! I can see them in my purchases and there is an activation code there. But I can’t figure out how to get them. Thanks for the help.

  17. I don’t use IRs in Powercab, so I haven’t tested this. It was my understanding that in Flat mode, the XLR output was the same as the input. In Speaker model, the XLR output was a mic’d version (probably an IR) of the selected speaker. And in IR mode, the XLR out was the processed IR output, the same thing that goes to the Powercab power amp. That said, I can’t find that stated anywhere in the latest Powercab manual. Frankly, I don’t see a lot of advantage using an IR in Powercab other than 1) you don’t have a Helix or some other device capable of supporting the IRs, 2) you’re trying to save a block - especially with HX Stomp. But using an IR in Powercab isn’t really leveraging Powercab’s big advantage - Speaker Mode. In this mode you get speaker models (which I think are just simple EQ matching), and no microphone - so the sound is more natural, like an amp in the room. Even with HX Stomp, I’d use the Speaker mode in Powercab. I think they sound quite a bit better than a similar IR into Flat/FRFR mode.

  18. I wouldn't call it a bug. I'd call it amazing that it worked at all. If you'd like to be able to do that consistently, call it a feature request and post it over on Ideascale.

  19. great ... here it is http://voigts.de/helix-preset-viewer/ a lot to do still. like fitting long paths on screen, setting the split points correctly and lining up the parallel blocks. hoping to get a lot done this weekend.

  20. The programming is already in the unit (if you have the latest firmware). You need a license to make the programming available to you.

  21. FWIW I have a similar issue- LT (2.81) when using momentary switches (mult) sometimes it latches in the on state. The only fix is to leave that preset then return. Problem goes away but is troublesome on a gig (happened Friday night).
