  1. Thanks all. Yes, not my first go-around with modellers. First time with the Helix, but past Boss and Line 6 user. I'm definitely familiar with the amp vs. speaker differences. I've already got a few amps, so all set on that end. That's why I asked about "other than" amp options. I just ordered a couple of smallish powered speakers - Alto TX208s. So I'll give that a try for for a while to start, and possibly upgrade later. Hopefully they work out. Having fun with the Helix so far!

  2. Keep in mind that if the last block in your signal chain is mono, e.g. an amp block(all of which are mono) or a mono effect, it won't matter if you have stereo blocks before it; the HX Effect output will still be mono even if the Strymon's output is in stereo. That may be fine for you but if you want stereo effects from the HX FX as well you need to keep the placement of mono blocks in mind.

  4. Hi there Firehawk owners, now it's been 3 years since the software Version 1.30.00 was released. Many things could be better on the amp, and I am getting tired of the invalid Token when searching for sounds in the app. My question is if Line6 will be offering a new version or are they going to ignore this Amp. Hoping for good and positive news ;-)

  7. @burningyen Great writeup on the fix and I agree with Lone_Poor_Boy, that trick with organizing the parts on a piece of tape is worth the price of admission alone. Heads up. For some reason even though the two links that you included for the parts look like they point to Full Compass, they don't. They are circular and point back to this topic page on the forum. Try clicking on them.

  8. Caught this the other day. I was extremely impressed;

  9. Make sure you are selecting the stereo version of each effect. Plug the L and R output of HX Effects into your Big Sky, then L and R out of the Big Sky into each amp. For some effects, turning up the spread parameter will help with stereo sounds.

  10. With the powercab, your modeler's poweramp model should always on. What will change depending your use case is on/off of the cabinet. If the powercab is in full FRFR mode, then keep cabinet modeling on. If your powercab is set for speaker modeling, then turn cabinet modeling off. *Edit: Keep in mind, you can do whatever you like to achieve a tone that you like. Above is a general statement.

  11. Hi Mike1225, Welcome to the world of digital modelling. Yep, greyed out amps or effect means you have hit the buffers, run out of steam, no more gas in the tank, and about a million other ways of saying you have maxed out the DSP in your hardware. This can be a minefield for the unwary (new user) because this thing looks as it can do anything (mostly it can), but some amp model consume more processing power depending on how complex they are. Whenever you are building a preset each block will use a varying amount of processor resources and as they accumulate you may find that some effects are no longer available (greyed out) One of the contributors to this forum has made a detailed study of the amount of DSP each amp/effect uses. Here’s a link to a video were he explains the theory. Hope this helps/makes sense. Oh, yeah, those Michael Britt presets are a very good place to start create your own patches from.

  12. So here's my at-home repair. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOUR HELIX IS UNDER WARRANTY. Due to various snafus I didn’t get my hands on the replacement pot and knob until late June. If you’re ordering from Full Compass, these are the parts, AND DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT: https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/538498-line-6-01-49-0027-helix-dual-10ka-15mm-pot https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/525521-line-6-30-45-0054-phones-knob-for-helix Opened up the Helix again to see how involved this repair would be. The good news was the pot was mounted on a separate small PCB, making it easily accessible. You can see it poking out below. Seemed pretty doable: You have to desolder the 2 tabs at the bottom and the 6 pins in the middle: Got everything set up... ...just 2 pins left... ...and off: New pot soldered on: Putting everything back together. I use a strip of packing tape to keep all the nuts and screws organized: PCB remounted: End caps and expression pedal back on: Back in business: Much better now:

  14. The amp is cool but the a**h01e'$ at L6 abandoned the FH1500 users. Now that China is shut down L6 will probably die off too.

  15. It's a dead/abandoned project imho. I have one, and I can't use it anymore as the iOS app it's totally bugged. I can't edit Variax params as it crash, and the app it's just very unstable, crashing randomly. I contacted L6 support, they said they know it's bugged, but they don't know when there'll be an upgrade. As for the firmware, again, I think there'll be no changes as it's a pretty much abandoned device. If isn't Helix, everything else doesn't last that much at L6 these days. Said that, I wish they stop doing devices with editing OS dependent, since that's creating an obsolete device as soon as the OS changes and makes the editing app obsolete and/or not running anymore. I'm sick of that honestly.

  16. Nobody here knows. Only Line 6 knows - and they won't tell. Anything you hear here will be uninformed speculation. You can choose to believe it or not.

  17. Hiya it's Mikko from ML Sound Lab chiming in. We've received quite an overwhelming response from the Helix crowd. What we do is match the Helix to sound like real tube amps from my personal amp collection. We've done a Mesa Boogie Mark V and a Marshall Silver Jubilee and a bunch of cabs as well. If you're interested I highly recommend you check them out here: https://ml-sound-lab.com/search?q=helix Here's a quick video showing how great our results are:

  18. I have a POD XT Pro and run Gearbox just fine on windows 10. Make sure you first UnBlock the installer then set it to run in Win 7 Compatability mode. Then run the Installer.....No issues so far. B)

  19. Mine just broke of as well. Did you get it repaired by a shop or tackle it yourself? I don't have a shop nearby and shipping is going to make it very expensive for me to send it in!

  20. I posted a similar question recently but got no replies. The knob became harder and harder to turn and eventually broke off. Anyone else have this problem?
