  1. Acoustic Simulator IR's based on the Amplitube 4 Acoustic Sim posted. They have a similar sound to a Boss AC-3 pedal with an electric guitar with mag pickups. They are made for electric guitar humbucker pickups (HB) and single coil pickups (SC). I think they sound best in the neck position. There are acoustic guitar 3 body types (1/2/3) and 3 top types (A/B/C) The IR block level should be around -5db to 0db instead of the Helix default -18db They work really well in front of the Helix Cali Bass (Mesa M9) amp model, as an acoustic amp model. I like it with no cab. I have posted a preset for Acoustic Sim IR use Link to Acoustic Sim IR's https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qit1ak8fxp5kqad/AAA6BwuVgBjg8Wx7IV0MsmYta?dl=0 Link to Soundcloud sample with Helix Cali Bass amp model https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-acoustic-sim-ir-and-patch-beta Link to root IR folder of all IR's https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lstuzn05tdpin9v/AADjdknZwdrze5VqaO7whHroa?dl=0

  2. Exactly. What's slightly confusing here, however, at least for a Helix Universe novice like me, is that the "Channel Volume" usually appears before "Master" in the parameter chain. It should be the other way around, following this signal path logic. Anyway, we're getting slightly off topic here. :)

  3. It's somewhat new to me as well, at least in this form. But occasionally I do audio editing for a living, like mastering, sometimes "budget" recording, live mixing, etc., mostly working in Logic. So I'm familiar with general audio path concepts. Nonetheless, I'm now spending several hours a day to explore the possibilities and boundaries of the Stomp. Flexibility = complexity – that's for sure. Luckily, being self-employed, I can take the time I need at the moment. :) Exactly. It's all set up already. Everything after the Send block now goes to the Main Out jack only, but not to the Send jack. Not necessarily because delays and reverbs usually have a dry/wet "Mix" slider built in: 0% = dry signal, 50% = dry & wet equally mixed, 100% = wet signal only. So you'll just set the desired proportions – probably somewhere between like 20–40% – and leave it as is.

  4. A cabinet/speaker choice is a huge part of your tone... not just with the HX platform, but in the traditional amp world as well. This gets even more complicated when you add the many mic choices and position options. Enter the IR.... those options are all baked into one nice neat little package. I can get those sounds from the stock cabs, but often need multiple cabs, mics, positions and plenty of EQ to do so. I have the LT... so I can afford to play around with the stock cabs as much as I want. If I owned a Stomp (and needed blocks for effects), I would just use an IR. When looking for an IR, don't go in without knowing what you are after! (ie: do your homework) Buy a package with a cabinet/speaker combo you know you are going to like.... then learn how the IR's are organized in regards to mic choices and positions. If this all sounds foreign to you, be prepared for a heck of a learning curve! The choices made here are (IMO) just as important as the choice of amp you use to drive it... but with far more options!

  5. The Send block should be in the A-path. It splits the signal already by itself: Dry Through goes to Main Out, Send goes to, well, Send. With your setup, the Send block likely sends everything to Send Out anyway, is thus totally redundant. You could then utilize the B-path elsewhere for your effects if needed. (You can have only one B-path on the Stomp.) If you're using stereo effects, just make sure to select a stereo Send block. Whereas if you're going mono on both outputs anyway, you may want to use mono effects all the way through to save some processing cycles. Here's what I've set up last week, for a pop-rock band where I'm playing bass guitar on stage. Last Saturday I've already used this setup live: Send goes to my stage amp (H&K Quantum QC415) that I'm using solely as a monitor here. Dry Thru continues to Amp+Cab block (Ampeg SVT4 Pro + 6×10 Cali Power) to Main that goes straight into the FOH via a self-soldered TRS-to-XLR balanced patch cable so there's not even a D.I. box needed. The B-path effects are active for one song only, saved as a Snapshot, using a Split Crossover so that the low frequencies remain unchanged while the high frequences go through a Dual Pitch and Tape Head Delay (Wet only) to kinda emulate a pulsating synth pattern that they've used on the studio recording of the song. Long story short: even with just 6 blocks, you can do crazy fun things on this device! :)

  6. An IR replaces your cab block... they're completely independent of the amp model you're using. It's just a fixed capture of a particular cabinet and mic combination. They're a bit easier to use, as there are no parameters to adjust as you have with the cab block. You drop it in, and you'll either like the sound of a particular IR, or you don't and move on to the next one... which brings us to the rabbit hole. A typical IR bundle will have dozens, perhaps a couple of hundred of individual files to sift through... different mics, mic positions, etc. It can become exhausting to toggle through them all to find the handful that you'll like and use regularly. Are they "better" than the Helix cabs?. Absolutely yes. Definitely not. Yes, but only on Tuesdays with a full moon... depends on who you ask. "Better" is in the ear of the beholder, just like everything else that gets discussed around here.

  7. Use a Send block after all the blocks that you want to route to your amp (Send jack). Everything else after the Send block goes then to FOH only (Output jack). The B path mixer must be placed before the Send block.

  8. Cool, thanks everyone. I'm waiting to grab a Helix Floor or LT unit myself, and then I'll buy the Native to go along. Definitely enjoyed what I've been able to demo with the trial version.

  9. Someone can correct me if I am wrong... but I really don't think Line 6 opened the architecture of the Helix to allow 3rd party amps to be installed. I believe you are buying presets, not amps. Some of these amp packs may include a custom IR (or multiple IR's) for you to use, but they are not new amps, just the existing models tweaked in ways you might not think to try!
