  1. I've found "by accident" a really good matchup- I have had the HX-Effects hooked up to a Marshall head for a while now (luv the thing BTW), and recently I purchased the Strymon Iridum pedal. The plexi and AC-30 sounds are just killer to me. So, I wanted some FX for the Iridium, so I started playing around with it and the HX-Effects. Match made in Heaven i think! And with the proper midi controller (like a Morningstar MC8) you will have a monster setup. OK No proof without a clip? Here ya go- All thumbs this morning please pardon the goofs lol....

  2. First off: IMO this is plenty of drive for such a type of amp already. And it's likely in the nature of that model to compress at such drive settings. Anyway, even with the drive that high, you will notice a lot less compression once you turn "sag" down. Also, where's your master at? I would turn that down a bit, too. That should already reduce compression quite a bit. Personally, I also always turn down hum and ripple completely. Hum is just that, hum. But it might mask some dynamics. If a real amp would hum that way, I'd have it serviced instantly. Also, I find the default bias settings to work best for this amp type.

  3. It's since march Im using my Iridium (and other Strymon pedals), and parked Helix modeling (imho Iridum plays in a different league). Using Helix primarly as a signal 'router' and to add some exotic stuff that I cant do with pedals. Really great stuff!

  4. Hey guys, thank you so much! I was able to get it running by resetting in update mode and then using the Line 6 Updater (instead of HX Edit) to upgrade, after that it booted just fine. I love this new toy. Not sure why the people complain so much about the presets, so far I have found 30 solid high gain presets, very happy with it so far. Keep on rocking! :)

  5. I would approach this a little different... Rather than placing the IR on a parallel path, place a "SEND" just prior to the IR block and use that to drive your amp/cab. You can fine tune the send level to get the signal going to your amp exactly how you want it... then it should never have to be touched again. This opens the option to move your delays and reverbs to the 2nd path allowing for better DSP management. NOTE: I see you already have two effects loops on your path.... my solution will only work if you still have an available send to use. I use an LT that only has two mono loops, but I believe you have double that with the Floor model.

  6. Welcome to the club... I'd hazard a guess that the majority of users will never come close to using everything in Helix. I certainly don't... it would be nearly impossible for all but the most well rounded of musicians, playing every genre of music under the sun. But so what? If it ain't broke don't fix it...you'll take a loss on the Floor if you sell it, and then you'll spend money on the Stomp and whatever MIDI controller you end up buying. Then you have to go through the hassel of getting the two devices to play nice together. In the long run I doubt you'll save enough money for it to be worth all the shuffling around. Keep what you have and experiment with it...odds are you'll eventually stumble on something you like better than the patch you're using now.

  7. I hope you are solving the issue. I wanted to comment on the statement above. One of the least successful studio technicques is to create a tone in isolation. Its the dreaded Solo button syndrome. It took me years to stop EQing in solo and to start listening to tones in the context of the mix. Thats the real beauty of a product like Helix...its easy to do this. Of course, once you have a tone that works really well in the mix, dont expect it to sound good on its own.

  8. I tried my best to get a Line 6 Helix - Metal video up as soon as possible so people can know what to expect and how it performs in a studio setting. Here's what I came up with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVRS-Z9Eb34 I used the stock noise gate, screamer 808 and ANGL Meteor with a downloaded Impulse Response (Engl Special Edition) from here (http://www.freemusiciansresource.com/VST-detail/huge-collection-of-metal-cabinet-impulses/) (follow the relink in the article comments). I used an LTD Vampire Biotech M guitar with an EMG 81 bridge pickup Settings are: Noise Gate: Threshold -30db, Decay 188ms, Level 0.0db Screamer 808: Gain 2.6, Tone 0.0, Level 6.7 Amp: Drive 9.1, Bass 4.8, Mid 7.1, Treble 5.2. Presence 6.3, Ch Vol 8.7, Master 5.1, Sag 3.2, Hum 5.0, Ripple 7.9, Bias 7.7, Bias X 6.0, Mid Boost Off IR: Low Cut off, High Cut off, Mix 100%, Level -18.0db Helix output volume: 100% Download the preset and IR Chugalo Preset Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bohy978jakum2pr/Chugalo%20IR.hlx?dl=0 Engl Special Edition IR: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/y2ncba2glb4g71e/AAAwNUJZu_AmNg7YWU59DV4Ga?dl=0 EDIT: CustomTone Download: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1345987/ Engl Special Edition.wav
