  1. For what its worth this is a bug that should be fixed quickly and I think it will be. Surprising it was not caught in beta as it is such a basic piece of functionality. Maybe so obvious no one thought to look for it. Bet they will next time. Or perhaps Line6 knew about it but determined that hitting their release date with a later bug fix to follow was a preferred path. It is almost comical to see a device this powerful and sophisticated, having just delivered polyphonic processing, unable to scroll properly through its own banks. You know that was not their intention. Others may not be feeling your sense of urgency as thankfully it is a bug with a simple workaround that imposes a minor or no inconvenience on most players. Personally I thought this would get fixed in the 3.01.0 release but they were trying to address an urgent issue with corrupted output and perhaps this bug is more deeply embedded than it would appear at first blush. It might have required more time, effort, and QA then they could afford before releasing the other, much more critical, bugfix in 3.01.0.. Hang in there, a fix is surely coming(probably in short order) and in the meantime, as I'm sure you already know, the 3.0 update has some awesome new features to explore. Although minor in the scheme of things this is very visible; not an esoteric bug only impacting a couple of users. You can safely assume Line6 is well aware of it and driving themselves to get this resolved. I sincerely doubt any additional urging from users will be required.

  2. The thread so far: OP: "There's a bug!" In the Know L6 user: "L6 is aware of the bug. They're working on it." Other Posters: "It's TERRIBLE!" " IT'S Shocking!" "How could they! It's SOOO inconvenient!" Forum Regulars: "It's a bug. They're working on it. Chill dudes! In the meantime, here's a workaround". Other Posters: "I don't like your attitude!" Humans.

  3. It takes about two minutes using HX Edit to reorganize your presets to avoid this bug. When Line 6 fixes the bug you can go back to your familiar structure. Meantime it’s up to you whether or not you want to continue to be ‘bugged’ by this. Seriously, what difference does the bank number make? Your familiarity is with changing banks using your foot. You know when you are in a general purpose vs. song oriented bank, and you’re very familiar with the Up/Down switch pressing required to navigate back and forth. None of that changes whether the banks you use are numbered 31 to 4, or 14 to 20, or any other of several consecutive banks. What’s important is maintaining consistency with your foot switch sequencing, not the bank numbers.

  4. All I can offer in the way of a different way to do things is you can copy and paste multiple presets at one time by highlighting them so depending on how full your setlist is you could potentially move an entire setlist up one bank in one fell swoop. Should take less than 30 seconds. Just highlight and copy the presets you need to move all at one time, select the starting slot for your move and paste. Keep in mind you will overwrite the presets below the paste point depending on how many slots you have available vs. how many presets you are pasting. Good idea to backup the setlist and even the individual presets(those can also be highlighted and exported all at once as individual files) first in case you get something wrong in the cut & paste operation. Another way to do this operation would be to copy all your presets to a different empty User setlist, again starting at the second bank.

  5. You'll need to be a lot more specific than that. What EXACTLY are you trying to do?

  6. Of course, you could simply organize your presets differently so that you avoid this 'mission critical' bug. Why not use Banks 1, 2, and 3 instead? Or any 3 banks that do not roll over from 32 to 1. You are choosing to suffer from this bug. Why?

  7. It can seem that way, but you've already ruled that out on your own with the headphones. If you don't hear both pitches coming through the cans, then you can't possibly be hearing both pitches coming through other outputs either... the signal is what it is, it doesn't change just because you took your headphones off, lol. Bottom line is, all pitch shifting algorithms are imperfect solutions. Guitars will always generate their own acoustic sound... you can drown out it, but you can't shut them up. Under certain conditions these effects are quite good and perfectly usable, but in others they leave a great deal to be desired. Life's rough...;)

  8. If you are going to spend the $$$ get the rack AND the controller. This way you arn't stepping all over the expensive part.... ; )

  9. What crusinon2 said. It's referred to as the dual tone effect. Hearing the standard tuned strings off the guitar, while hearing the Alt Tune signal through the amp. Turning up the volume of the amp, or using headphones will negate that.

  10. Besides doing alternate tunings, the Variax can do reasonable approximations or Resonator acoustics, banjo, and sitar. Also you can turn the volume level of various strings up or down with the Variax. For example, if you wanted to start with a twelve string acoustic, turn the bottom two strings off and retune the top four strings to 5ths, you can get a reasonable Mandolin. Finally, the Poly capo and 12 string simulator blocks in Helix 3.0 eat up a lot of DSP and are prone to have weird artifacts if you don't play them perfectly, while the Variax 12 string sims and alternate tunings take NO DSP and do not suffer from weird artifacts.

  11. Seems to me that anything that isn't EADGBE standard tuning is an "alternate tuning"... it's an umbrella term, encompassing every other tuning out there, from the commonplace to the weird. What else would we call it? Now if we really want to get into a semantic argument, what the new poly features can't do is produce open or drop tunings, where different strings are shifted by different intervals, and/or one or more strings are shifted and the rest are left alone entirely. That's where the Variax has the edge... though in my experience, they're far from perfect.

  12. As stated.... genuine alternate tunings are not possible with PolyPitch. If you only use the Variax to drop/raise the entire guitar a pitch or two (neither is great with large drops/raises).... I'd still give the edge to the Variax, but only a little. PolyPitch is quite nice out of the gate, but it will require a little more refining before it matches or betters the Variax (IMO of course)

  13. I did some comparison between variax detuning/uptuning (not Alt tuning, for the above reasons), and the Helix Poly does seem performing better for uptuning (better tone and attack), whereas Variax (JTV59) sounds to me more convincing when downtuning, even if does warble a bit more for lower drops. Acoustic sim on the JTV is still superior than using the Acoustic sim in the latest firmware imho, but I've seen some youtube using that new block in conjuction with acoustic IRs, and it was sounding just amazing. Still the Variax seems the right choice if you dont want to deal to much with presets and stuff. I dont think Variax is now redundant, at all. Helix can't perform string recognition as the Variax, so I doubt it will ever be a complete alternative.

  14. The Poly Capo can't do alternate tunings (neither can any other poly shift affect). It can only standard-tuning up/down by half steps (or micro tones on things other than Poly Capo). You still need a variax for Drop-D, DADGAD, etc.

  15. Interesting question. I suppose at some point I will get around to testing the differences between using the Variax and a standard guitar with the Poly Capo for alternate tunings. The Poly Capo or Poly Pitch move every string the same interval. You can't do more exotic tunings or something like a Drop D where only one one string is dropped. If you don't use your Variax for anything other than alternate tunings and poly covers all the ones you use, then I suppose you could use the poly blocks instead. So many other things you can use the Variax for though.

  16. I have Big Sur installed on a 2017 MacBook Pro. HX Edit works fine as long as the app retains focus. If you click in some other window and HX Edit looses focus, the connect will time out and disconnect in around 30 sec.

  17. What makes you say that, ego or wallet? Infinite recursion. :-) Whether it exists or not, its a good idea to align altruism with self-interest. Encourage that $hit! Provide tax deductions for charitable giving. Let someone have their moment in the press for having done something good for others or a genuine act of heroism. For the most part, with some exceptions, it is no skin off my nose if doing the right thing helps someone's bottom line, enhances their reputation, or just makes them feel better about themselves. I'd like to believe it exists. Might be a matter of perspective as it is remarkable when you break things down how often there appears to be an ulterior motive. At the end of the day if someone is consistently kind I am happy to see it, regardless of any purity test regarding their underlying motivations. Oh, and btw, fizz :-)

  18. Hey everybody, Is there a way to set up my foot pedal on my Shortboard MKII to be able to switch from Wah to Pitch Shifting on the same preset/patch? Maybe set up Func 1 to be pitch shifting, and Function 2 to be wah? not sure if this is possible.. I have a Spider IV 150 combo Thanks, Shawn
