  2. Too much BASS and little PRESENCE in the default amp models settings. (and often too much DRIVE) Fortunately, dedicated amp controls are at disposal, easy fix. The output mode is also important, make sure it is set to Studio/Direct. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  3. Thanks everybody for answers so far. I guess I should chock it up my lack of knowledge about amps, even though I've been using them for 54 years. I just never messed with any of the amp speakers I had unless I blew one. The last almost 20 years I've been relying on Line 6 and Boss modeling units to play through. So, It looks like as I understand it, there are a few typical speaker matches for particular amp models in the Helix/real world but the others are custom replacements and it's down to what I think sounds best to me when running a Helix amp to a PC+ speaker. I guess it is my misunderstanding that Line 6 was offering some of the same speaker models in the PC+ that they modeled and default matched with amps in the Helix. Thanks again for your comments so far and thanks in advance to any future replies.

  4. I raised the key one semitone for the sample I took from the video to bring it to a comparable level with my recording. That might have affected the tone a bit though, and I probably should've had left it untouched and re-tuned my guitar to Eb for the comparison instead (because open chords). Thanks for the info about version differences. Thanks, I'm feeling more confident about my Helix now. I might have overreacted a little to the tone difference because I've been having a little bad luck with faulty products (in general, not meaning Helix or other Line6 products) lately.

  5. Upon listening on my computer (15 in macbook pro, sound not too bad), I Like the your recording better. The first half sounds fizzy and no mids. Just saying

  9. With the input pad off, I felt that many amps were overly distorted at very low volume/drive settings (esp. non-master volume amps). Of course part of the challenge here is that the modelled volume / drive / master volume knob tapers may not match that of the original pots on the physical amp. With the input pad on, the dynamics, sensitivity and tone are a lot more realistic. The best way I can describe it is that the input pad on seems closer to the real experience and with it off, it's like there's a permanent +6dB boost always engaged (which can be good or bad depending on guitar/signal chain). At this point, the only way to further reduce signal is post AD converter with a gain block. I was asking if anyone else had tried that and what the results were - good or bad

  10. It was certainly an undocumented feature, but it was great. Luckily, the guys at Line 6 are actively working on all this, and maybe we MIDI fans will have great news in the upcoming Helix 3.1 firmware. So, life's good. Line 6 rocks!
