  1. Has anyone spent some time with this legacy effect? I read about the original Roland version (and the Boss one), and I thought that it might thicken up a few presets. Right now, I have it on the #1 setting with a 20% mix, and it sounds nice. I have it as the final block in the path (it sounds really good there). I just wondered if anyone else had experimented with its placement/usage as a way to thicken a tone ( as opposed to using it as a heavy chorus effect). Thanks!

  2. Just a heads up on mixing irs. Phasing issues can arise if you blend irs from different companies. I tried mixing Ownhammer with 3 Sigma, and the sound was muffled and unusable. I’m not sure if this issue arises when blending irs and Helix stock cabs, but I wasted a lot of time turning knobs before I figured out the problem.

  3. Thanks for the reply. Actually, the led ring is not lit at all on the up / down switches. Both are blank. Even red would be fine; I just want an indicator when I switch from rhythm to lead (snapshot 1 to 2).

  4. I use the snapshot function only as a lead boost, so I have the up/down switches set to control them. Snapshot 1 is rhythm, snapshot 2 is lead. My top row switches are presets, the bottom row controls stomps. Now, here’s my issue-I want the LED color to change on the up/down switches when I change between my 2 snapshots. I know to push down on the preset knob, rename snapshot, and assign LED color, but it doesn’t work for some reason on the Up/down switches. Any ideas? Thanks.

  5. I recently created 3 presets (clean, slight break, and overdrive ) with the Derailed model. I used it over the weekend at a bar gig, and it really sounded nice. Previously, I used the Litigator and JCM 800 models for my gig sounds, but this Derailed is pretty sweet...

  6. Sounds like you have the XLR out set to mic level from the Helix; the mixer is looking for that; the powered speaker wants line level.

You could plug Helix back into the powered speaker, and test the setting on Helix for line vs mic level on the XLR output?

Also, check your global EQ setting.

Thanks. I’ll check the line/mic settings...

  7. Thanks for the feedback. So far, the best placement for a clean lead boost for me is directly after the amp and right before the cab/ir. For whatever reason, it sounds noisy at the very end of the chain, which is where I thought it would end up. This is a nice addition to the already awesome bank of OD pedals.

  8. Does anyone know what the boost switch does on this effect (kinky boost)? Is it a low boost (like the older version) or a 3 dB boost (like the newer one)? Thanks. I’m hoping that this is my lead boost solution...

  9. When I first connected my Helix directly to a powered speaker via xlr, I was not happy at all. I lost clarity, and the tones were just "ok." So, I brought my mixer that we use for live gigs home, and ran the xlr to a channel on the mixer, connected the same powered speaker to the mixer , and it sounded awesome. I'm not sure why this is the case, but this is what I use for gigs now. We have powered monitors for our stage sound, so I don't have a separate amp of any kind for my guitar on stage. My Marshall and Fender tube amps stay home.

  10. I like the Park Bright (Brit 75) for classic rock. I start with the LA compressor, and I use an EQ to filter out some lows. I also use the Valve Driver in front of it. It seems more dynamic than the Plexi bright to me. Try it out.

  11. I was using a high gain pre as my main drive like a pedal into the voxac15 model for a while that was my jamm. Sometimes a ts808 before that to tighten up the high gain pre.

Example, guitar>808>angl or archeon pre> voxac15 amp and cab model or> dual cab/IR> delay verb etc.

This ^^^ Wow. I just tried the plexi bright pre into the AC 15. Very nice light overdrive.

  12. I have spent some time lately creating patches with varying amp blends, and the advice on this thread was super helpful. Thanks for the input. The sad reality, however, hit me when I compared these very "busy" presets to some of my older, simplistic ones with one amp and 2 irs. The simpler presets sat better in the mix (live mix, I mean).

The amp blends sound awesome, but they're a little cluttered sounding to me. They aren't as crisp and defined as one nicely dialed in amp. Of course, my ears might say otherwise the next time I turn on the Helix (that happens to me frequently).

  13. agreed! even 2 amps fully wet gets kinda lost... my BEST experience has been wet/dry... one amp path clean and wet with effects, and a second path set barely dirty/ edge of breakup, and dry

it creates a great stereo effect

Cool idea. I'll give it a shot later tonight.

  14. That's only true if you actually create a path for unprocessed guitar to get through. Then it will get through. But there are no "bugs" in this regard, no. Those users just weren't paying close attention. It's really important to analyze your signal path so you understand what is going where.

    That makes sense. Thanks.
